I wondered why the salesman told me to be sure to keep my receipt.
After 2 days, the cute smart cover was driving me crazy!
The magnets may or may not be strong enough to hold the extra weight of the 3rd generation iPad, but they definitely don't fit the steeply angled sides.

My iPad 3 would never stand up for video watching, and even when typing, the cover kept sliding off.
I have an original iPad that is still without a scratch -- this one fell face down when the magnets on the smart cover disconnected.
The Apple Store manager's reasoning as to why it was not their fault? iPads should never be held in one hand!

I am so so sorry I bought this case. It falls off all the time. It doesn't make a stable stand. It was a real waste of my money. Its a shame a company that makes a wonderful product like iPad makes such awful cases!

The title of my review seems a little sensationalist, but allow me to explain:
This case looks great, fits great and protects the entire iPad. It even has a few nice touches (covered volume and power buttons).

BUT - and this is a big but. The case is also supposed to support the iPad when watching movies/reading etc and this it spectacularly fails to do and may lead to the death of your iPad. In portrait orientation, it's not great, but almost usable, but in landscape, it's much worse and is too flimsy to stop it from toppling over, which lead to my wifes iPad hitting a tiled floor. We were lucky because I got my foot under it to break the fall, but it could so easily have lead to it breaking. Better options are available at a lot less, investigate those first. This is the poorest accessory I have seen Apple produce and they should be ashamed to their failure to test it adequately before selling it. I bought a different case from another manufacturer and this is much better.

What an awful design, I have an ipad2 and it's comfortable to hold either out of its case or in a Belkin case that a got when I first bought the iPad (the original smart cover fits with the Belkin case)

This new case is horrible to hold, there is a mould line around the edge that pushes into your fingers making it unbearable.

How can the designers of iPod, iPhone, MacBook, iMac, iPad, and even the original smart cover release this? Steve Jobs must be Turing in his grave.

when my dad gave my his new ipad i was really excited.......untill i put the case on it didn't really proctect the WHOLE ipad.a screen a screen saver works beter acullay. mine also scrached up really easy.....sorry apple but wasn't your best prodect. ps. even my dad wast to impresed with his either . pps. they fall off really easy...

I was so excited when I got my new iPad3 and wanted to make sure that I kept the screen protected so I bought the pink Smart Cover. Here are my thoughts

Like:
- Low profile creates streamlined look when cover is laying flat on top of screen
- Protects the glass screen (when it stays on)

Dislike:
- Detaches constantly when you fold it in the 'upright' position unless you get the iPad in EXACTLY the right position
- Detaches inside of my backpack which puts the screen in jeopardy of getting scratched
- When you fold the SC in 'typing' mode, the cover 'collapses' and lays flatter than would be my preference

I have become so annoyed with the SC that I have been poring the internet for covers and have resigned myself to the fact that the iPad SC is my 'interim' solution. I'm waiting for my long term solution to arrive any day now. Once I get the new cover, the SC will be retired to the accessory graveyard.

I have had this case for a few months and nothing has happened; mainly because I haven't dropped it, but when I did the case flew off and the iPad hit the floor and the screen shattered I do not suggest paying 39 dollars for a case that will not even protect it! DO NOT BUY!!! There are still cases that protect much better than the smart case AND cost much less.

It only covers one side so the metal faced side of the iPad is unprotected. When folded back, it collapses immediately and that function is useless.

I am very disappointed in this product.

I love the pink color but hate the cover. It falls off way too easily. One of the times it slipped off, my IPad hit my dining room table putting a huge gash in it. Proceed with caution!
