This product is very good and practical for all desktop users out there. With Magic Trackpad you can take advantage of multi gesture and other fancy stuff OSX offers. So I got one and loving it, but I never felt this device can replace my mouse. When it comes to do something like editing a picture I don't feel this device is sensitive enough, so I just use Magic Trackpad for day to day task like read emails and browse web and use Magic Mouse when I want to work. But still I cant live with or without it!!

I have been using the track pad for six months. It hogs batteries. Now it is possessed. I have done everything I can think of to fix it - Googled everything, reset, trashed preferences, PRAM, etc. It literally has a mind of its own today. Now I have to drag a 27" iMac in to fix this. REALLY? I can make more money by going and buying a mouse instead of wasting two hours for the Genius bar to belittle me.

My love for Apple 10 years ago has turned into - hey they are still better than all the problems I have w/ a PC. But every year I have MORE and MORE problems. :(

Ever since I got my abc mini in 2010, I have been using this amazing trackpad. Thin, quiet, and awesome. Try hooking your mac mini up to a 50" HDTV and working from the couch. This september, I got a MBP, which also has this trackpad. Connected the other one to my MBP once or twice when I wanted some distance, and to work in the dark. Great product. (especially with osX Lion)

Magic. For sight impaired folk - GET ONE - AND some additional batteries

I use an MBP Laptop with a Magic trackpad built in. I also use a height adjusting stand with a fan assisted cooling system built-in. There is a bar on the stand that impedes my using the built in Trackpad properly so I bought the second "Outboard" Trackpad.
If you do buy this, take time to LEARN TO USE IT PROPERLY: learn to swipe, push and pull the screen image about and use all of its functions. (I love the double tap with three fingered "Look up" feature) In my humble opinion - use the Magic Mouse with discretion. It is completely unnecessary with this Trackpad working as mine now does. I did have to coax it along a tad. But now, it is excellent. (I am visually impaired and this Trackpad is the next best thing to the proverbial sliced bread!!) Its zooming capabilities are phenomenal but not with the more usual "Control+swipe" feature: I use that for those apps and features that do not respond to the Trackpad gestures and do remember that not all apps will respond how you might want them to. It is extremely accurate, you can put it on the desk where it is comfortable for you, if you go walk around with a laptop, you can use the built-in jobber with consummate ease BUT DO make sure you have a decent supply of batteries for the outboard model as it can eat through them quite quickly at times. Now that my Magic Mouse is finally defunct, I am FORCED to use this Trackpad properly(?) and it performs - like Magic.
Now then, Apple: what I NEED next is a facility to move the Tool Tips from being covered up by the Cursor and a facility to chance the background color from stark white to my choice.

    A bit frustrating

Bought this Trackpad when I upgraded to Lion OS.
Have used it for almost one month and still am learning. Many features/gestures have no use in my line of work/home use.
I've owned an iPhone and Macbook Air and had no problems with the touch gestures. Enjoyed the app on my iPhone that made it a 'touchpad'. But, this works differently.
This Trackpad has a generous surface area, which is part of the problem. Easy to have accidental touches (even to the edges of the trackpad) with dire consequences, and many gestures are frustrating.
Sometimes my pinky and/or ring finger will touch the pad while I'm scrolling and send me to another webpage or interpret the gesture as a 'swipe', or some other gesture and close the page all together.
Seems like 'up' is down, and 'down' is up. With my previous mouse or trackball and the 'window blind' controls on webpages, you'd pull 'down' to make the page scroll up, 'up' to make the page go scroll down. With this Trackpad, the gestures are as if you're touching the page, itself. Odd, since the pad is horizontal and the screen is vertical. And now, on many sites and in most dialogue boxes, with this Trackpad (and Lion update?) those 'window blind' controls on the edge of the website or dialogue box are gone!
Also, double clicks aren't always recognized, or sometimes are overly sensitive, regardless of the setting. I find it difficult to block/select a section of text or photo to highlight for editing or to copy and paste.
I regret this purchase. My $12 Blutooth mouse was cheaper, much simpler to operate and move, and not counter intuitive.

    Better Than I Thought

I thought this trackpad might be really awkward and unusable with my iMac, but boy was I wrong! This thing is great, it feels so natural. Mouse-users will get the hang of it quickly, I assure you. If you use/have used one of the more recent MacBooks with the glass trackpad, using this trackpad will be super easy. Great product, glad I bought this instead of the Magic Mouse!

    I give up.

Trackpad works fine for awhile, then the problems starts:

    * Tracking goes from smooth to all over the screen
    * Touch to click so sensitive, it causes multiple unintentional clicks
    * Clicking starts to highlight sections of information
    * Clicking starts to open unwanted menus

Have to shut down and restart to "reset" the trackpad. Went back to the USB mouse-- which is working just fine.

    Best £60 I've ever spent - possibly

Like many other MAC users, my Mighty Mouse ran in to problems when the roller-ball got too dirty to work properly. It got worse for the mouse when I decided to take it apart to clean it. I now have a clean mouse that no longer works.
So, as I needed a new input device, I decided to take a chance and buy the Trackpad. I'd been looking at it for a while on-line but I needed to try it out in the 'flesh' to see if it was as good as I hoped. My local Apple store had one on display, so after trying it out I took the plunge.
I've been using it for about a week and I haven't needed to touch my mouse since I bought it and paired it up to my iMac. It's not only easier to use than a mouse, it's infinitely more pleasant. As the iMac has a large screen I have to move my mouse around to cover the entire screen, the biggest problem I had was moving something to the recycle bin in one movement or when dragging things around in iMovie. The Trackpad overcomes this problem as you can scroll across the screen much more simply.
I've configured the main features I used with the Mighty Mouse but there are numerous other actions I now invoke with gestures on the Trackpad that before would have needed the keyboard. So not only do I not need a mouse, I use the keyboard less too. If there was some way of getting an on-screen keyboard to pop up using the Trackpad I could save even more desk space!
I'm now looking for an equivalent for a Windows PC, no luck so far.

Nice ergonomic contrast to a mouse

What I like about this product is that it's a ergonomic contrast to a regular mouse. I have a mac at home and use a PC with a normal mouse at work. After a day of regular mousing it's a nice switch to a different set of motions/muscles using the trackpad in the evenings. I've used a trackball for years for just that purpose, but the trackpad does it better.

    This thing is AWESOME!!

I enabled single-finger clicking and now I just sit back and control my Mac Mini hooked up to my HDTV! It's great for Hulu and other streaming content where you won't be sitting at a desk.

The 3-finger swipe for web navigation is spot on and works great! No more clicking the back button!!

I only wish there was a handle to hold this thing with one hand. I am currently palming it, but it's just a tad too big to be comfortable.

Lastly, I ordered it on Monday and received it on Wednesday!! The 5-7 day lead time isn't accurate (at least for me).

Product is great. Highly recommend it. I love the magic mouse but this beats it hands down. No more dragging the mouse on my wood table (hate mouse pads). This product is small, convenient and it looks great. It takes a little getting used to but once you have, its great!!!!

Wasnt sure if this trackpad would be a waste of money or not as the magic mouse does a great job. I didnt really want to replace my magic mouse but was told i could use both without any problems.

After a year of putting it off i decided to get one because im upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion and fancied it. After 1 hour of using the TrackPad i am amazed. I thought it would be similar to a mouse pads but its not its much more. Im not a fan of a mouse pad on a laptop but for some reason i love this track pad.

I feel like i can navigate better and quick around my iMac. My magic mouse is still here and when touched is activated with no lag, its instant moving from trackpad and magic mouse.

Im currently using it on Snow leopard and still the trackpad is amazing. After the update to Mountain Lion the trackpad will become more useful and therefore be more impressive.

If your considering buying a track pad you wont be disappointed and if you were like me and not keen on a mouse pad on a laptop, think i wont be that useful, and a waste of money then if purchased you will be proven wrong.

Im really happy with my purchase, the £59 is now justified. Dont hesitate to get one but do it.

    :)

Makes my sturdy old Mac Pro (2007) feel like new again. The gesture functionality works seamlessly, setup was painless and quick. Much less strain on my wrist, already bad after two decades of heavy mouse usage.

Dislikes: nothing yet, will update if I find anything.

Likes: Ease of setup. Ability to single and double click on pad (has to be setup in preferences), pinch and zoom (especially useful on large montors.

Can not be happier with the purchase.

I bought a magic trackpad in January and i really liked it, I barely used my mouse after that. However, after 4 months the left side of the trackpad does not let me click anymore, however the right side still works ok, I will try to replace it and if the shop does not let me I will go back to my mouse, I am not buying another one and risk having it stop working again in 4 months.

Would be magic if it didn't require batteries

Considering only this thing's function as an input device, it's wonderful. I love having the vocabulary of gestural inputs on the big trackpad. But in day-to-day life its infrastructural requirements—namely batteries—leave much to be desired. This thing sits in one spot on my desk. Why must it eat batteries? I have plenty of available USB ports. The trackpad should just use one of them and be done with the need for interrupting my work to be fed more expensive & environmentally unfriendly batteries.

So much more precise than a mouse and it also really compliments the Apple keyboard with numeric keypad available for iMac. Mine works either in front or behind the display for up to several feet; the bluetooth makes for many options. If you're not a savvy user of trackpads (such as with a laptop), it's probably not meant for you to have magic trackpad. Many of the bad reviews on here appear to be written by users who weren't previously trackpad users. If that applies to you, get a wired mouse. If you're like me and love the more technologically-savvy option, get the magic trackpad; it's awesome!
