    Terrible Design

    • Written by from New Hyde Park

The little metal part (on the doc) that connects to the ipod shuffle itself has snapped off and now I can't use the dock. It's a shame that they don't have a regular plug (without the bulky dock) that has a usb connector at the other end of it. This dock really is pointless. Yes I get the fact that you can have it sit upright and all but it's not necessary. It's useless and definitely a waste of material. Apple is all about making life easier...faster...more helpful, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a shuffle usb connector for the 2nd generation shuffle WITHOUT THE DOCK.

    Cant use it!

    • Written by from Rumford

I received my shuffle as a gift. It wasn't long after receiving it that the pin snapped off. Was able to get one from a friend that didn't need it anymore. Which was great for me because I couldn't afford to buy another one. And... Again, the pin broke off! It's not from neglect of misuse in the way it was handled. I have been looking for a generic ( LOWER COST) one to get me by. I haven't used my shuffle in over a year. No Wonder I'm Depressed....

I have had my dock for 3 years now. It has been thrown around, pushed to the bottom of bags, stepped on and god knows what else, and it has stood the test of time. In comparison to all of my other cables which split and break over time, this cable has withstood the test of time.

Only gripe is the cable's stiffness, occasionally meaning that the dock doesn't stand up properly.

The 1st one I had lasted a few weeks and thankfully it was replaced against the receipt. The 2nd lasted a bit longer, about a year and it has now gone kaput. It has simply given up with no signs of life. If I could find the receipt I would claim a new one, or upgrade, as this has not lasted a reasonable time, in my eyes, and was not up to standard. Don't buy one.

Can't hold up to my husband's foot

    • Written by from Seaside

I have had my shuffle since 2007 and I love it, it has been perfect for the situations that I have used it and I have used it A LOT. I never had a problem with the dock being flimsy or easily breaking. It has so far survived 3 little boys playing around with it every chance they got and all of my own wear and tear. It's long life finally ended when my husband stepped directly on it and broke the pin. It seems worth it to just buy the next step up instead of paying $30 for a new dock. After reading everyone else's reviews I am beginning to think the quality of my dock was an anomaly instead of the norm. I'm sure Apple is well aware of their marketing technique. Of course they will charge almost as much as a new shuffle so that everyone just goes ahead and buy the new shuffle instead of "wasting money" on a new dock. 5 stars for my dock (R.I.P.) 1 star for Apple's greed.

Poor Accessory for a Great Product

    • Written by from Huntington Park

So I've had my 2nd Gen Product (Red) iPod Shuffle since roughly mid 2008 (nearly 4 years!) and the dock has finally come to the end of its short life. The metal prong is loose and will no longer charge my iPod Shuffle.

Now I'm in a conundrum because I probably paid about $100 for my 1 GB Shuffle when I initially bought it and I can just replace the entire shuffle for $50 plus tax, but only the cable is broken so that doesn't seem necessary.

I can go to a 3rd party cable supplier and see if I can get one for cheaper, which I will most likely do because I can't justify paying $33.00 for a poorly designed yet absolutely necessary accessory made by Apple.

The metal prong poking out is a MAJOR design flaw which I'm sure Apple has figured out and which I'm sure is why, none of the newer shuffles come with this type of cable, but I am bummed out that they haven't updated the cable or allowed the older iPod Shuffles to be charged with the newer iPod Shuffles' cables.

Quite the conundrum as you can see because I like supporting Apple and using their accessories but Apple you failed me on this one!

    Broke off INSIDE the iPod

    • Written by from Astoria

I had the iPod plugged into the dock and the dock plugged into my computer, and the pin broke off inside the iPod, so now both of them are useless. Please reinforce the pin to avoid these kinds of troubles.

I Have Had A IPod Dock (2nd Generation) before and just broke so easily. For anyone who thinks of buying this is wasting their money. I advise you to buy the 3rd or 4th generation as they are much smaller and ARE better :)

The dock is fine .. And as to people who make posts because of other people complaining please dont make it sound as if we dont take proper care of the docks. What i find is that the complains are mostly about the dock pin breaking.. I think the dock works fine the problem here is durabilty ... There is a significant problem here as the dock's durability is horrible and it seems because of minor accidents.. Such as dropping it. Its a cable if it drops its not expected to spoil.... Just saying i broke mine too and i live in singapore to get a new cable is 55$ i think this is too much but i cant find anywhere else to get it

iPod shuffle second generation, the dock with USB Cable

    • Written by from TORONTO

I've had this since 2007 and only recently I'm having problems with it. I'm not surprised and it's been long enough that with time the iPod (or the dock) needs to be replaced. My problem is with the USB cable - as stated during the troubleshooting session. Hoping to get the replacement part by next week and then less time is spent on recharging the iPod.

Still recommend this product even though it's outdated: iPod shuffle 2nd gen, 1GB.

Poorly designed for an otherwise great product

    • Written by from Framingham

Let's get this straight- I'm not at all careful with my electronics. That's why I love the dock's counterpart, the sturdy 2nd gen Shuffle. You'd think that the charger would match... However, the dock itself is not designed for mobility in the same way. To those of you keeping it in one place- no kids, no pets, no travel- good for you! It probably still works very well.

Mine has broken twice (always the pin!), and it's depressing to think that just a little more height in the plastic around that flimsy pin would probably protect it better. Anyway, $30 isn't worth it for a replacement. It's poorly designed. There are other ways to connect it to the computer, and other chargers available. There are used, off-brand, or hand-repaired ones, but of course try it at your own risk!

    loss of music

    • Written by from Wheatland

I've had my ipod shuffle for years. I use it for all my music for dance team and now my college company. I've always liked using it because it's so small. On my trip home from school my charger broke and now I'm unable to get to any of my music because as figures my ipod is dead. it's annoying to see how easy this dock keeps breaking and it seems a waste to replace it for $30 just to have that one break also. Why is it that they don't just have the charger for the 3rd and 4th generation ipod work with this one also? They all plug into the headphone socket anyways....

The charger is a piece of junk. Mine broke off while it was in my bag during a trip! Now its dead and I have no way of charging it unless I go pay 30$ for another one that is bound to break too. None of my other chargers for different types of iPods or Apple products have this problem which makes me mad. They really need to make a charger for the 2nd generation like they have for the 3rd and 4th.

    Terrible dock

    • Written by from Vancouver

My dock stopped working after the second time I used it. It wasn't the "pin". It is still intact. But when I plug the shuffle onto it, nothing happens. It doesn't charge and my computer never sees it. I have to push it onto the dock so hard that my thumbs turn white, and that's if I'm lucky. Most of the time, it won't work. To top it off, I'm upset, that after 500+ terrible reviews and customer complaints, Apple is still charging $30 for a new one. Really Apple?

    Handy Doc for the Shuffle

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

I am not sure why there are so many complaints on this product. Mistreatment mostly would be my guess. My wife and I have each had one of these for 3+ years and never a single problem. If you pack it in a bag or case where the pin is vulnerable to damage, you are likely going to have a problem with it. If you use a little care and common sense it will last you the lifetime of your shuffle.

    Long time

    • Written by from Danville

I've had this dock for about 3 years, and it still works. I keep it plugged into my computer, and yet, it still works. I've learned to take care of it, and I've never had to buy another one due to this. Must've been lucky this time.
