    excited but frustrated!

    • Written by from Oshkosh

The man that sold me the sensor told me that it is important to take the sensor out of your shoe when not using it because he said even the slightest bump of the shoe will turn the sensor on and drain the battery. I bought my sensor about a month ago and bought new shoes to go with it and just tried it out the other day and was able to get it to work for about 5 minutes and that was it. Now it just keeps saying "walk around to activate your sensor" and I walk and walk and walk and nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that the battery is completely drained before I've even had a chance to use it!?! I was so excited about this but now I'm just frustrated and annoyed.

    Works as Advertised

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

This works great just as promised and I love that it uploads my running data to Nike. The first one I ordered arrived dead, so the good people at Apple customer service sent me a replacement for free.
I don't think it is a big deal to have to replace this yearly. My first one lasted almost a year and a half, and I never took it out and "put it to sleep" as recommended. The benefits of seeing your run times and distances coupled with the FREE Nike Plus website, more than makes up for the 19$ you may have to spend to replace this.

    Awesome until it stopped working

    • Written by from Saint Helens

I loved the Nike + iPod. I bought the Nike+ shoes. It was wonderful and then the device said the battery was low and stopped working. This was after about 200 miles. I went to a Nike store and bought a replacement sensor. It didn't work. I returned it for another sensor, it didn't work either. I bought my brother a Nike + iPod. His worked fine. I tried to use his with my sensor. It didn't work. I tried using his sensor with my unit. It didn't work.

I finally broke down and bought a whole new unit. I hope I have better results with this unit. I am saving all my receipts.

    Nearly lost my finger

    • Written by from Birmingham

I do love this product, but along with the majority of people here, I am disappointed to find that you can't replace the battery.

This is as much of a warning than anything else, don't try and lever the sensor open with a knife!

I will be buying another sensor as mine has lasted for well over 600 miles, and hopefully the next one will do the same.

    Love it, but hate it.

    • Written by from Sartell

I love this product, but I too am very annoyed by having to buy a whole new sensor every year. $29 for the entire kit, and $19 for the sensor alone is a little ridiculous. Come on Apple!!

    won't purchase again

    • Written by from Spring

I too bought the ipod sensor not knowing that i couldn't replace the battery. Bad design. I love nike products but this one is terrible. If nike and apple was looking for a quick get rich scheme, this would be the ultimate.

    Excellent

    • Written by from San Diego

I really enjoy the way this product works. I recently found out that if you are currently listening to a podcast or audio book, another option becomes available when you go to the Nike Workout called: "Now Playing." I had assumed you could only listen to playlists/music when working out, so I was happy to learn about this option.

A great product that works seamlessly and is very user friendly!

protest to Nike, to make the sensor accept replacement batteries

    • Written by

I've used my iPod with the Nike Sensor for almost a year and when I found that I had to replace the whole unit when the battery died, I was flabbergasted. Not only for the costs of replacement but the effect on our environment. I love the product, but if a competitor came out with a sensor with a replacement battery I would be buying their product versus Nike. Hopefully the more people that protest to Nike about the non-replacement of batteries the more likely Nike will listen to the voice of the customer.

I am glad to see that the transmitters work with the iPod Touch, way to go Apple! Now why can't I use it with my iPhone? Hmmm, isnt it the same hardware?

    Keeps me going!

    • Written by from Vancouver

I've only had mine since October but it's been great to have a honest voice in my ear telling me to keep going. I find it's best to use all the available tools on nike+.com to really keep you on the road. My only beef is that I personally find nike shoes narrow but with the right socks I'm good to go.

    1000+ Miles on a Sensor

    • Written by from Ankeny

I am currently on my second sensor. The first lasted a bit over 1,000 miles of running. I now have around 1,200 miles on the second sensor. I don't do anything to aid in extending the battery life. I turned it off once before going on a flight (FAA Rules). I did not want to find that the Homeland Security folks tore apart my bags because of the radio transmissions from the sensor.

I run in rain, snow, frigid temps and summer heat. Never had a problem. This helps to keep me motivated to put in the miles. To me, it's well worth the $20 for a sensor.

    Dead Sensor

    • Written by from Singapore

Hey, i purchased my Nike + Sports Kit on Jun 08 and today (2 Feb 09), the sensor is totally dead.

I received a battery low warning "replace sensor soon" only on last 3 to 4 workouts, but I remember reading somewhere that it will last at least 2 more weeks before the replacement, but to my disappointment, before i can start running today, the sensor totally cannot be detected. I tried to re-link the sensor but failed. The total time recorded is 48.77hrs, total distance 470.86km. But the "promised" lifespan for the sensor is 1000 hours, so how can my sensor be dead this soon ?

    Sensor Life

    • Written by from Chatham

I rely on my sensor to keep track of all of my runs so it was a real disappointment when it died after 8 months. Unfortunately it stopped working midway through an 8 km run in frigid temperatures. I didn't get the satisfaction of recording my agony! I think that there needs to be a 1 year warranty on this sensor offered by Apple.

Amazing Product For i-Pod Nano or i-Pod Touch

    • Written by from Albuquerque

This is an amazing product if you have the right i-Pod. It works flawlessly and it is so simple, a caveman could use it! Great product, it's worth the money for sure so get out and get yourself one, but only if you have the right i-Pod! Remember it is not compatible with i-Phone, which is the only bummer.

    8 Months and still going

    • Written by from San Jose

I have heard reports of people complaining of short lives in these sensors. Don't believe it, mine has been going since April without issue. Keep in mind the sensor is on when moving, so if you aren't running with Nike+ probably a good idea to take the sensor out or use a different pair of shoes.

    6 months & still going

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I've been using my sensor for 6 months now & have put 330 miles on it & it is JUST now starting to act funny. Every time I'm done running a voice comes on & says congratulations you just finished 500 more kilometers...even though I haven't. Overall - AMAZING product! I hope I don't have problems with my replacement....

    Battery Life Disclaimer

    • Written by from Tempe

To offset some of the other battery life issue comments/reviews, Apple and Nike both have a disclaimer that the sensor only has 1000 hours of active battery life = 41.67 days of continuous running; the replacement cost of $19 every 3 - 6 months is worth it for the technology that the Nike+ system uses, make sure you putting it to sleep when your done with it!! That should help too. Just exactly, what kind of reasonably priced technology is available for perpetual power to such a small unit? There isn't, I have had fantastic results with this product (Nike+ SportBand System) between functionality, battery life, and ergonomics

    Worked great for me

    • Written by from Buffalo

It seems that a lot of people had trouble with the batteries in the sensor. I've have mine for 13 months, and it finally told me that the battery was low. I've run 1400 miles on my first sensor. I think that its great!

Terrible Battery Life, Shame On You Apple

    • Written by from Philadelphia

Like others, I have had terrible battery life issues with this product. My original sensor lasted approx. 3 months, and my replacement sensor lasted 4 months. I run a couple times a week on average. Apple should make a unit with a replaceable battery or warranty the battery for at least a year. Shame on you Apple for making a knowingly inferior product.
