Great and lasted longer than expected

    • Written by from North Ryde

I was surprised about the accuracy of the sensor. Also the battery in my case lasted reasonably long (almost 2 years). Overall I will keep using it, as it keeps motivating me to go out for runs.

    a great product with a little know-how

I'm about to purchase my third sensor. I'm averaging one a year and the ability to buy the sensor on it's own is welcomed. I don't run in Nike's. I use clear surgical tape to hold the sensor, logo side up, to my shoe tongue. The laces strap the tape down and nothing is going anywhere. It just works and if it keeps me exercising it's a good thing.

    I pod sensor battery

    • Written by from Fort Campbell

I bought the product to work with my I phone, bought it on 8/13/09, and this morning it's not picking up 15 days exactly worked out with it 9 time less than 30 miles. Great product, but like most needs the battery issue worked out! I am so annoyed spent my morning trying to figure the thing out instead of running like I needed to do! I want a refund!!

Can be used with other shoes, and how to elongate battery life.

    • Written by from Fayetteville

The concept behind this is amazing. You need to calibrate it at a gym for accuracy, and it is super easy. Once you put it into your Nike shoes, it is hard to get out. So, if you wear your shoes for things other than running, then it is a hassle to remove and reinsert the foam, and it will wear the battery out much quicker. I was under the impression that the sensor is motion activated, and if you carry it around in your purse then it could drain the life. My sensor has lasted over a year, but I am not an avid runner. I bought it for the walk to run program on Nike.com and it has helped motivate me alot. My neighbor is an avid runner, and she dislikes Nikes shoes. She sealed the sensor in duck tape and punched holes in the tape and she ties it in between her laces and shoe tongue. It works great and saves on her battery life, since she can remove it. That will be my next move, Nike shoes or not!

Good product but needs improvement on some angles

    • Written by from North Hollywood

While it does it's purpose, like everyone's complain battery life is indeed the problem. It is ridiculous to buy replacement every couple of months. Now, may i also suggest Nike to add a clip to the sensor that way we dont have to buy a 5$ pouch from a retail store.

What a fascinating product from Apple!

    • Written by from 武蔵野市

Hi, I found this product is a real sensation. Still, I am trying to figure out how this little piece measures the distance close to real value! Other pedo meters compute the steps you take and multiply with a defined value. But, this device has no such calculation.

The bad thing from my side is the battery. I had seen several reviews on this. But, from my side, Apple and Nike should be environmental friendly company as they claim. How can they release this plastic product where the battery cannot be replaced?? What kind of design is this?

You are blind to learn whether this device is active or not. In iPHONE 3GS, there is no screen which tells the battery to be replaced or not. Whereas, the iPOD has a display about the battery status!

Economically, the value this product is $19 but a battery costs less than $3.

Apple designers, be friendly to environment and imagine, millions of the sensors will be dumped every year because of simple battery life!! Come on .... take the lead and be the user friendly leader..!

    Could be better

    • Written by from CONYERS

I bought my first sensor in Dec and have a total of (33) 1 hour walks and the battery is now dead. I only use the shoes that the sensor is in to walk.

I really hope the revamp the design and allow the user to replace the battery. Spending $20 every 6-7 months just because a $3 dollar battery dies is crazy.

Please fix the design Apple and Nike!!!!

Other than this obvious flaw the Nike+ is great.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Oriskany

Very disappointed...I loved this product the first 2 times it worked. Then it stopped working. The battery life, if i can even call it that, is totally based on luck. Since you can't really turn the device on or off, because there is only a button, the battery is probably on 24/7. It's probably on before you even open the package. To make this product worth the money, nike/apple should make a sensor with a replaceable battery and an actual on/off switch so you can tell whether it's on or off. Until then, save your money.

works well but has some problems

    • Written by from Currambine

I was so exicted to try this product out after reading the reviews on it HOWEVER i tried this for the first time yesterday on my normal 6km walk. i tried to calibrate it but it wouldn't properly for some unknown reason. I completed my 6km walk and went to see how many cals I had burnt. It told me that I had only walked 0.34km!!! Then when I tried to recalibrate it, the sensor would not transmit or the iPhone 3gs would not recieve the signal.

Great Way to Track My Runs

    • Written by from Arlington

I've customized all my running habits onto one easy program. It's great to track my good and bad days. Although a heart rate monitor attachment would make it better, I still get what I need from this equipment.
    Good job Nike & Apple.

This is such a great product! It works perfectly. It syncs without a problem and motivates me a lot to keep running or working out. I love how it keeps track of my workouts. The best part is that Lance Armstrong will congratulate you when you achieve a personal best.

    Registers incorrect pace while running

    • Written by from Coppell

I run 3-4 times a week and I have been using Nike+ for well over a year now. I was very happy with my initial purchase. The sensor lasted just over an year, which in my assessment was fair. Then my problems started. I bought a new sensor and the receiver could not detect it at all. So I returned it to the store and they exchanged it for a new one. The new sensor worked fine for a few weeks and after that, it would only register the pace correctly when I am walking (+ or - 5%). It just does not work correctly when I am running. I use it with a second gen iPod in a Nike+ arm band. To test the problem, I took the iPod out and kept it in the cup holder of the treadmill while I ran. While I walked it registered the pace correctly. The moment I started to run the pace reading went haywire and fluctuated randomly between 0.0 min/mile and 29.30 min/mile (0.0 most of the time) while I was running at 10.00 min/mile.

Now I am not sure if this is a problem with the battery or not. Probably not, because then it would not have registered the pace correctly even when I was walking. Right?

If anyone has faced this issue and knows of a solution please respond.

    A Very Useful Accessory!

    • Written by from Armidale

The Nike + iPod sensor is a great little unit! The price is very nice given that the unit has limit life, and the ability to purchase new sensors is what really attracted me!

I will say be careful though, the unit's battery has a limited life (around about 335 hours of constant use, or about 14 days when left running), which is awesome; just be sure to turn your unit off when not in use, also when I bought my first kit, the sales rep at a the shoe store neglected to tell me the unit I was sold was over a year old, consequently I only got about half the expected life out of the battery, and it also meant that I was unable to register the product.

Since then though I’ve bought an extra unit or two, they’ve served me better. The main lesson I got was check how old the product is before you buy, because the any battery loses charge slowly over time, even it remains unused. If you buy it and it’s been sitting on a shelf for 12 months you get less than you payed for, as far as I see it.

That said, the unit is an otherwise great product, it’s also nifty too how it can connect to the iPod Touch without having an attached receiver, which is a nice bonus!

    Barely got to use it

And it died. Horrible battery life, now im forced to go to the store and buy it...again. Ive only had this for about 7 months and the battery is shot. Strongly suggest do not buy unless your gonna fork over another $20 for a new one in a couple months.

great for keeping track of workout

    • Written by from Mountain View

Nike Plus combo is great for keeping track of your workouts and evolution. The battery of my sensor only died after approximately 500 miles which seems relatively fair. The only bug in the system is when your first sensor dies and you need to replace it with a new one - there the migration of your old data from your old sensor to your new sensor on the Nike+ website isn't that seamless... however if you follow the instructions, it does work!

    Not for Serious Runners...

    • Written by from South Lyon

Even after careful calibration - this device is 3-5% off per mile. If you run 8+ miles at a time like I do - this level of accuracy is not acceptable. This might be fine for walkers and casual joggers - but this is not a serious training tool. Garmin 4Runner series is far superior. At $29 dollars, I guess it is a good value - but not for serious athletes.

    Bad Battery

    • Written by from Greeley

The Nike+ is an awesome accessory to any iPod, although, I have to say that the battery life in my sensor was nothing compared to what Apple said in the overview...

    Good but not good enough

    • Written by from Ypsilanti

I was given 2 pairs of Nike+ shoes as a gift and I naturally became intrigued over the system. Eventually my old ipod photo died and I opted for the iTouch. I was excited to see the Nike+ software pre-loaded so all I needed was the chip. I love to run and I average about 15-20 miles a week. I enjoyed tracking my runs and getting time/mileage updates at the press of a button and when nearing the end of a run. I used the system when running outside or on treadmills. After 5 weeks I noticed the sensor stopped working. I tried to resync and nothing happened. I went online and noticed the numerous complaints of the battery life. So I went out and bought another chip and this time, the sensor would not sync at all with my iTouch. So I returned it the next day. This is a great idea in concept but until Nike/Apple can come up with a rechargeable battery (or at least changeable battery) this product is not really worth it since you have to buy a new chip every time. I am surprised that this area has not been addressed yet considering Apple is known for making small innovative products that can be used repeatedly. So save your money until apple addresses these issues.
