    Terrible stand

Okay cover but it is a terrible iPad stand. It always falls over!

    Doesnt stay attached very well

    • Written by from NORTH FERRIBY

The magnet on/off functionality is not ideal for transporting the iPad around in a bag. I find that when sliding the ipad in our out of a bag, the cover becomes detached and slides up the ipad, leaving part of the screen partially exposed.

Personally I also find the 'fold to stand' function a bit poor since the angle is not ideal .

It's an OK cover for round-the-house use, but I would invest in the case version (with the back) rather than this front-cover only version.

    No protection, but small

    • Written by from River Falls

This is not a protective case at all. The metal on the side of the iPad leaves marks. I would definitely recommend the smartCOVER over the smartCASE,because that is almost just as slim, but way more protective.

    waste of money

    • Written by from Phoenix

I bought this cover because it was cheaper than the full case and that was a bad decision. first off, the back is unprotected. I've always liked mac products but this one, I feel like i've been duped. why would apple make a product that only covers the front? i accidentally dropped my ipad and the corner cracked because it was unprotected. I bought the green case and was told at the store that it was easy to clean, not true. The case gets dirty and stains almost instantly. the magnetic attachment is neat but it falls off a lot. i love the idea of the magnetic top powering the ipad on and off. that is the only reason this got 2 stars. My advice, spend the money on the leather full case or find an alternative manufacturer. it will protect ALL of the ipad AND clean better.

Smart Cover is not so Smart

    • Written by from Charlotte

The cover frequently fails to put my third generation iPad to sleep, resulting in a dead battery and in worst cases lost data due to apps continuing to run on line. Often when I close the cover, I hear the electronic click indicating it has gone to sleep, but later find that it woke back up. Very disappointed with this purchase.

    Flimsy, not very stable.

    • Written by from Timonium

I really don't understand how this is sold at the price it is. It is not all that supportive of the iPad which is really too heavy for the foldiing top to be an effective stand. The material is protective but as a stand, poor design.

    Rusty pins and stains

    • Written by from Kapolei

SMART COVER "not" in three weeks it started to rust, in the hinge there are pins either they are the magnets or steel pin dowels that hold the plastic in place where it make contact to the iPad. It started to rust and leave stains on edge of the IPad that barely came off and it started to loss it holding strength pop off real easy. Spead good money on the I pad just to get rust stains on it not to smart! I got my temporaly fixed for now until I save money to buy something else better DO NOT BUY IT NOT A SMART BUY

    Worked great... At the start

    • Written by from Beauval

I've had the smart cover for a couple months now since I bought it along side my iPad 3. It work very good at first, connected to the side fast and stayed on well. Until after a month of use the metal connecting plate started bending a little outward. Now it doesnt connect very well and falls off easily. I would recommend a whole case that covers the front and back.

This is not the best product

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

I have had the smart cover for two months and it is not only bad protection it also is falling a part on the edges. The magnit that holds it on to the side of the iPad opposite the volume controls has rubbed off the finish of the iPad. This is is deffenetly not the best product for a school or working envierment.

    Not Apple's best idea ever

    • Written by from Fairfax

The new Smart Cover may work for some... But for the rest of us a cover that is connected magnetically just isn't working out so well... If all you do is use the cover to rest the iPad on the table top it works fine... So does a stack of paper...

When carrying the iPad with the cover the cover easily separates from the iPad making it likely that the iPad will be dropped. When attempting to use the cover to assist in holding the iPad when sitting, it doesn't take much movement to separate the cover from the iPad. So what's the point.

My bottom line is that you should purchase a 3rd party cover/case that firmly attaches to the iPad. You'll be much happier...

    Risky!

    • Written by from Bedford

This "cover" actually Increases the odds that you will drop and damaging your iPad. Not only does it leave the slippery back of your iPad exposed, the weak magnetic grip holding it on the front gives the false illusion of a solid grip for the front. It will easily slip off if you rely on it for this purpose and you will have destroyed your new iPad. I've just ordered a folio style cover to replace this cover. There are a number of them for sale on Amazon, but you need to read the reviews carefully to assure that they fit the new iPad properly. Some of the early attempts did not fit.

    Not so good...

    • Written by from Birmingham

while the idea of a case that attaches via magnets, folds to allow various stand options, protects the screen, and auto wakes/sleeps seems like a good idea...it's not...the cover provides no protection to the sides/back of the iPad...and don't every try to move or pick up the ipad from just the cover as it will unhinge and the iPad will go falling...not to mention that folding it to provide a stand option doesn't actually work out as well as intended...go find a better case on amazon

    iPad Smart Cover

    • Written by from Perryopolis

Very disappointed. It did work well for several months. Then it began to fall off frequently. Then the hinge broke. Not to mention it started to look dingy. I replaced it with a cheaper version which never seemed to turn it off. Any ideas for a cover that protects better and turns it off?

    Leather - red

    • Written by from Salisbury

Whilst I appreciate this is a really clever idea I have to say I am disappointed with mine. The first one arrived and was grubby and scratched and I went through the long phone call to have it returned (the queue was long but the lady was really helpful that I spoke to when I did get through). They sent a replacement over night and have arranged to collect the old one. The second one arrived and it has two damage marks in it - without me even getting it out of the box. I can't even be bothered to send it back. I don't think the leather will be very durable and I am sure it marks really easily. Can't comment on the polyurethane but I think I might have been better with the cheaper version - maybe it would be a bit more durable.

    Smart Cover not So Smart

    • Written by from Georgetown

Since it looks like Apple is committed to this cover for a third generation, I should tell you they are not really worth the money or very useful. The cover stays closed as long as you don't move the IPad too much, put it flat in an attache, the cover is not a longtime solution to being used as a stand, the back is unprotected, and maybe if you usednitnprimarily for gaming it would be suitable. However, in an academic or school environment it is in adequate.

Also, your portfolio with keyboard is not for real typing, typing letters, papers, reports, etc they keyboard does not lay flat and it bounces every time you use it. Very disappointing.

    Not so smart cover

    • Written by from tonopah

I bought the orange smart cover for my ipad 2. It worked and looked nice for about a month. Then I could see areas of orange rubbing off. If you use a damp cloth to wipe it clean, the color comes off too. I always have this cover on my ipad and when I travel or put it up for the day, it is inside of a super soft and protective envelope style cover. The cover gets weak and is harder to fold it up to use as a stand. It falls a lot. I would research other covers out there before buying this one. Mine looks horrible after 5 months.
