Reviews for Apple Magic Mouse

New to Apple, just got an iMac and Magic Mouse came with (so did wireless keyboard, but that's another story). Previously used PCs at work, this computer is at home and so far just for casual use. This mouse is very low-profile, and it does take some getting used to the feel of it. I've been working with it now for about two weeks, and I agree with those who say a higher profile might be more comfortable...I think if I was using it 8-10 hours a day, there would be some wrist issues due to the lack of curvature to the hand. I love that the entire surface is 'active,' and the scrolling features are marvelous.

Now, don't get mad, folks, but I have to say that you need to do a little reading before you attack the product for lack of versatility. We can put some of the blame on Apple for not emphasizing the customizability of the product, but come on, it's NEW, you need to do your research to figure out how the features differ from what you were using before.

The majority of complaints and low ratings on the product seem to have to do with the fact that there is no multi-button functionality. Several even complain about the lack of the right-click function. Folks, you can use it out of the box and it will have just basic functionality, but you can use system preferences to enable the right-click function (as well as others), and you can even download apps to further customize the thing!

Anyway, I love the thing, and I suspect I will love it more as I play with the different possibilities and apps. Down one star for ergonomics, as noted above.

At first, I was thinking if should I buy this. i am a poor highschool student who has a macbook pro.my trackpad is kinda difficult to use coz we do a lots of "click and drag" coz of our presentations. then i give it a shot (thinking that i could return this to the store and give my money back) but when i tried it, IT IS SO COMFORTABLE AND USEFUL!! i mean,i never feel any regrets for purchasing this.totally worth of money.even i used my money as my monthly allowance,its totally worth it.i can use it for a very long time,unless apple will release a new mouse that is way more better than this.but you cant ask for more for using this. APPLE never disappoint me.

Often times, it loses connection connection as often as 1-2 times per minute. Then I have to wait 30 seconds until it connects again. I have to put fresh batteries in it about every 3 weeks or the frequency of disconnects increases. This is totally unacceptable to me, especially when you consider windows all seem to be void of arrows to scroll at the side and bottom of open windows now.
The cost of batteries for a year is enough to put me in a nasty mood. There's no excuse for this.
I'm shopping now, to see if there is an acceptable replacement.

My initial reaction to the new Magic Mouse was one of pure gadget lust. The overall concept and purity of form are near the pinnacle of industrial design. After spending two full days with mouse in hand, I have become aware of the shortfalls of form over function.

The loss of two programmable buttons (side pinch buttons and scroll ball) have disrupted my work flow and my use of Spaces, Expose and Widgets. The slim profile and the crisp upper edge had forced me to change the fundamental way I hold the mouse (between thumb and ring finger to a thumb/middle finger grasp). After the first day, the cuticle area of my ring finger was sore from the crisp edge. The other consequence of the thumb/middle finger grip is that the two-finger swipe motion requires a repositioning of my hand each time I want to use it. It also puts my clicking finger at the far edge of the top surface. I find that my clicking finger is making more frequent and unnatural lateral movements that are causing considerable discomfort. For someone with smaller hands, this may not be an issue.
The touch surface scrolling seems like a great concept, there is an inefficiency of movement involved. On a Mighty Mouse, scrolling requires a movement of only 1/4", while the same movement on the Magic Mouse requires a 1-1.5" movement with less accuracy. Repeat this 500 times a day, like most graphics professional do, and you see how this is working against you.

So, while the Magic Mouse get high marks for design, the functionality is really a downgrade for me, because I get really concerned when I leave work and my hand aches because of my mouse.

My old Mighty Mouse will not get retired to a box in the cupboard just yet. In fact, I just purchased another because, for me, they work perfectly.

Bought it and I like it. Because of the bad reviews here I hesitated for a little over 6 months before actually buying it. The first few times I used it, it took me a while to get comfortable with the new gestures, somewhat different from my macbook's trackpad's. for the people complaining about it being too small for people with larger hands, I'm 6 feet with larger than average hands and not once has it feel to me like it was too small. I mean, for very large human specimens it could be too small, but that's just a fraction of the population. so most likely it won't be too small for you. It is calibrated perfectly out of the box, I never swiped a page by accident like others seem to keep saying and my mouse never got disconnected. I do not regret my purchase at all.

Well functionalities are superb. But the mouse is so flat and it is very difficult to get use to it, if you are going to use it for a long hour, your ring finger will start to ache. and the edges are too sharp so After a long hour of use your whole hand will start to ache.

I am a fan of Apple, have a Macbook, Macbook Pro, iPhone and many other cool things Apple offers. I have purchased 3 mice for our company and was VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED with it. It is heavy. You CAN'T feel it in your palm, tracking is not optimal. All in all, if you are a professional who does graphic design or video design and animation, this mouse would be the worst choice.
How could Apple drop the ball like this?
I would not even give it one star.
Without exagerration, this is the worst mouse i used since 1999 or so. And we will definately return them.

Reconsider purchasing this mouse----it seems cool, but don't be fooled. I have stopped using my magic mouse and went for old-fashioned wired mouse. Has problem connecting half the time, and other times does not work at all on some games. Please, Apple, improve this seemingly awesome product!!!

The swipe is great. The multi button is great. The scroll zoom is HORRIBLE!

I use Cinema 4D and other 3D modeling as well as a lot of Adobe products. This mouse loves to zoom to infinite levels in a project if you so much as look at it wrong.

If that "flick scroll, infinite zoom" thing can be fixed, it would be an easy 5 stars.......but because it is SO annoying, only 3 stars ( and that is generous!)
