    Magic Mouse - OUCH!

    • Written by from Morgan Hill

I love Apple products and I love what this mouse can do. Unfortunately it has some major problems. The sensitivity is such that it can scroll or zoom without provocation, but more importantly, it seriously lacks in the ergonomics department. I also find the mouse to have tracking problems, often dropping whatever you are trying to move. I've learned to get somewhat better at this with a lighter touch, but since when does one need to "learn" how to move a mouse? I've worked on computers for well over 20 years, Macs only, and in all that time I have never encountered discomfort. I'm now seeing an orthopedic doctor, and the pain in my wrist is awful. Each morning and each day is an exercise in pain. I hope the track pad works better. Two stars for what it does Apple, but please address how it does it.

    Mine died very young :-(

    • Written by from Napanee

This mouse was wonderful while it worked. It came with the iMac 27" when I converted to that from my PC, in August 2011, but by mid September it was *very* frequently losing connection with the iMac. I changed batteries several times to see if that might solve the problem, to no avail. Finally I plugged in an old USB MS IntelliMouse and have been working fine ever since.

I love this mouse, it feels natural in my hand. Install was easy, and I LOVE the scrolling feature. I do wish it had controls for expose.

    Wow, really bad!

    • Written by from Aurora

The mouse loses it's connection constantly and sometimes it seems to just freeze up and you can't get it to move and you have to switch it off then on. If you are in the middle of a game or other program you just lose everything. Nice idea but very flawed!

    Great Mouse

    • Written by from Florence

I absolutely love this mouse. It does everything I ask and more! Comes with batteries and the sink process was easy as cake. I would recommend this mouse to anyone who is wanting a high end well produced product. If you are looking for a mouse to compliment your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, then look no further. I would buy this mouse again and again.

PAINFUL contemplating class action suit for carpal tunnel it's that bad

Mouse seems great but then you use it.... if you are a casual user then great. If you are using this mouse for any kind of work for extended periods of time, i.e. greater then 5 min literally, you will be in for a shock. HAND AND WRIST PAIN TO DIE FOR! My hand and wrist will hurt for hours after use due to the extremely poor ergonomics. sleek design, cools gestures and function do NOT make up for the terrible terrible design. If your hands aren't super small DONT GET THIS MOUSE!

    Did not Last!

    • Written by from Newfane

I loved the new Magic Mouse, and it seemed much better than the Mighty Mouse. problem is, just recently when changing the batteries the left click does not work anymore. The scroll and the right click work, but now left click, unless I keep clicking it. Now I am back using my Mighty Mouse and use the Magic Mouse to scroll. The thing is, it is after the one year warranty, which stinks since I would not have it that long. I would have given 5 stars if it still worked properly, but it would seem these mouses do not last that long. :(

    Coolest mouse ever

    • Written by from Knoxville

Magic mouse is really a magic!
Design is fantastic and features are versatile. In most times, I do not need keyboard because I can control my mac book with many kinds of gestures. If you install magic prefs, which is for free, you can add more gestures such as tip the apple logo or swipe four fingers. You can also assign short cuts in Magicprefs. So I play and stop itunes tipping apple logo on my magic mouse. Isn't it cool?

Also it is robust. A couple of logitech mice I have used could not last more than eight months; however, magic mouse has no problem so far for more than one year.

A good companion for the usual user

    • Written by from Minneapolis

It took me a couple days to get the gestures consistent (mostly the two finger swipe between spaces). Since then it has served me very well. It functions with good responsiveness on my desk even without a mousepad.

It does eat batteries like crazy. I had to use my little travel USB mouse when I ran out of batteries unexpectedly. But going without the magic mouse made me appreciate how much I relied on its functions. So I solved the battery problem by getting some rechargeable batteries from Target.

It doesn't fit your hand perfectly but I suspect that's only an issue for heavy users (e.g., programmers, gamers). I've experienced no pain.

    Profile is too low

    • Written by from WYNDMOOR

Nice mouse but I found the profile too low, too flat. As a graphic artist I use my mouse 99% of the day, after 2 hours it was so uncomfortable I had to switch back to my Logitech.

Great mouse but tracking is slow

    • Written by from Stevenson Ranch

I have been using the Magic Mouse for a little while now and it is a great mouse. I love the scroll ability and it has a great feel. My only criticism is the tracking speed is slow. The tracking speed is how far/fast it moves on the screen when you move the mouse. I have tracking set as high as possible, and I still have to frequently pick up the mouse and move it over to complete a move to the far side of the screen.

I also am running Windows 7 in VMWare Fusion, and the mouse works great. There is no side to side scrolling, but I am used to that even with my Logitech mouse. Up and down scrolling works great.

    Worst mouse ever

    • Written by from FREEPORT

I hate this mouse almost as much as the stupid trackpad. One of the worst interfaces in computer history.
Terrible battery life. Loses connection constantly even with new batteries.
After twenty years of computer mac useage, i feel the new direction apple is going is just plain terrible.

If is working is good, but....

    • Written by from Winnipeg

whatever I'm trying to do just get disconnected randomly.
Works for hours, and suddenly is like dead (Disconnected - message on the screen) again is connected, again disconnected... you got it...
It is frustrating and should be a recall from Apple - looks like thousands are dealing with same issues.
    Not recommended to buy!

    It's fracking sweet!

    • Written by from Macomb

I hated using only the touch pad on my 2009 aluminum MacBook, and so I bought this to offer a bit more freedom while on the road in 2010. Totally worth it! The touch gestures are even better with the Lion update, so I finally felt compelled to give an opinion. Quick tip however, if you buy this and travels. Great deal, be sure to either keep it in its box, or buy a type of cover to keep it in. I have travelled with mine in my bag without covering it, and much like the surface of the older white MacBook, it will scratch easily. Of course I tend to put alot of wear on my equipment. Still works great however after 20 months of use.

    I tried . . . I really tried

    • Written by from Minneapolis

My Logitech Revolution mouse was crapping out, and saw my window to add another Apple product to my desktop. So, I reluctantly changed up my mousing workflow to try the Magic Mouse. Not only was it uncomfortable (the crisp edges dug into my fingers), but this mouse is way to prone to ghost gestures--scrolling and clicking when your hand hits the wrong place. It's going back in the box, and back to the store, and my Logitech is coming back out of the garbage. Trust me, it isn't an easy decision, but this is one thing that Apple has not mastered.

    Awesome Mouse

    • Written by from Middleburg

I have over 20 years of computer experience and have had numerous wireless devices. This was the most simple to connect to my absolutely wonderful MacBook Air. I feel that this mouse was well worth the money. I especially enjoy the slim sleek design. I am glad I took a chance in buying this mouse considering some of the reviews. This is an awesome device. Thanks Apple.

    Functionally great, but...

    • Written by from Baltimore

...not so comfortable. I use it when I work from home all day and my hand starts aching after just a couple of hours. It's so nice and streamlined, but I sure wish it was more ergonomic.

The only other negative is that the swipe can be a little too sensitive and does not allow adjustment. One wrong touch and your document goes scrolling waaaaaaay fast the wrong way. Nothing's perfect, I guess.

Otherwise, the mouse is brilliant - it is fast and responsive, and I only have to change the battery every couple of months.
