    I can't believe this is only keyboard offered

    I'm a high volume/speed typist and this keyboard has cut my typing speed in half. Too much time correcting errors. And this style is the only thing on the Apple website and it is terrible. After market alternatives do not meet the criteria that high-volume typists want: Soft but quiet click and a decent travel distance. Very disappointing.

    Numeric pad does not work with Parallels side

    I have spent a good amount of time on the phone with Apple help to no avail. They tell me I have to deal with Microsoft to get it working (not why I bought expensive apple equipment). I hooked up a $10 Kensington keyboard (using it now) and have no problems on the mac or windows side. I moved from a PC to an Apple because I thought it would be easier -- not the case on many fronts (eg heavy ms excel users be warned the Mac Office version does not handle many macros in excel -- that's why I am using Parallels - not a seamless transition).

    Aesthetically pleasing but impractical if you know how to type

    After using this newer board for just a few days, I decided to buy the old style wireless that Apple made prior to this cool looking new board. I found one from an Authorized reseller that stocked the old style. First, why everyone is so happy about this board's layout (or its wireless version) can only be related to its beauty. I'll give it that...it's a work of art. However, since I've typed for over 25 years, I can honestly say that if you know how to type fast and learned how to type on a traditional keyboard, you will be frustrated by this redesigned one. I suppose that if you want to look 'cool' then have the new board on display for guests to see. But if you really know how to type with both hands and need to type in a straightforward manner without necessarily having to adapt your fingering or typing skills (why would ANYONE do this?), I would suggest that you find yourself the older wireless version of the board that is still sold by some Apple resellers. If Apple really wanted to impress me, they would do what Texas Instruments has done with their new TI-Nspire calculators: Have interchangeable keyboards. Then, the beautiful board can be on display when you like, but allow real typists to switch to the older (more practical) keyboard.

    Think twice

    This keyboard is a triumph of design. Sort of.

    I type a rapid hunt-and-peck; Now I now find that my text is full of typos. And I don't know why! Is the keyboard too sensitive (which cannot be adjusted), or do the keys not always 'hear' me when I strike them? Whatever the reason, the spell checker is working overtime trying to keep up with this mess.

    Interestingly, one of the techs at Apple Care says he has this new keyboard and it mirrors my complaints.

    To add insult to injury, Apple no longer sells the older, better, model

    Just got this for my Mac mini and after 2 days I swapped it out for a different keyboard. The keys are so close together it's difficult to use if you have big hands.

    I just bought a new iMac 24" and it came with this keyboard, so i gave it a try. I must say, this keyboard is just about everything i don't like about keyboards. Although, if you like using laptop keyboards, you'll probably enjoy it very much. I just like the feeling of a full keystroke, and hearing the click to go with it. This board looks really pretty sitting on my desk, but its just awful to use.

    Nice looks, horrible to use

    I want to preface this by stating I normally love all of apple's products, their great keyboards and mice especially. However this thing really put its form over function. I got this keyboard with high hopes but it is really terrible to use. It is in no way adjustable in any way. The keys are totally smooth top with no curve for your fingers, so I found myself sliding off the keys a lot while typing. I easily type 100wpm on a good keyboard and I found this one very hard to use without looking at it all the time to make sure my fingers were where they should be. There is very little travel on the keys themselves, you don't push down on a key, you just touch it and it types a letter. It's like using a bad laptop keyboard, I found myself hitting the keys and just getting a thud way too soon. I know many people like that, but those people that love full travel keys will hate this keyboard. The best apple keyboard in my opinion is the old black key pro keyboard they shipped with G4 Powermacs, I still use that to this day on all my macs after trying this new one out.

    The lack of any adjustments, no curve on the keys for your fingers, and the small travel of the key mimicking a laptop keyboard are 3 issues that can't be overlooked if you do a lot of typing daily. Find yourself an old apple keyboard or go with a different brand.

    USB Does Not Work

    This keyboard looks great and functions well, but only as a keyboard. I used the USB ports on my old Pro keyboard all the time (because they actually supported 500mA devices). This new keyboard only supports 100mA devices. No iPods, no flash drives unless you have an alum (2007+) imac... I do not. This huge functional constraint forces me not to recommend this product unless you have the hardware to support it.

    Does not work with Macbook Pro!

    I ordered one of these so I could have a full sized keyboard layout for use with 3D modeling software but when I received it, installed the required software update and tryed to use it my computer had a kernel panic and needed to be rebooted before doing anything else. Once rebooted the keyboard either wouldn't register keystrokes or would just act as though I were holding down a key until I unplugged the USB cable. Plugging the keyboard back in would then cause another kernel panic and reboot.

    Apple Support walked me through clearing the battery cache and several other vague attempts before giving up and trying to ship me a new one. They claimed it was a hardware conflict and a new one would solve the problem. The problem with that is they don't know the Product Number as their internal numbering system doesn't match any numbers on the keyboard or packaging. Finally they gave up on a normal exchange and just ordered me a new one from the Apple Store.

    I received the replacement the very next day and have the SAME EXACT ISSUES. There is apparently no way to get this keyboard to work with my year old Macbook Pro.

    bad, BAD keyboard!!!

    i've spent a few days with the new apple keyboard. admittedly, i miss the MEAT to the keys... but it's okay. in the spirit of progress - i can adjust...

    problems:

    - must use software update just to use the VOLUME KEYS?!??!? its just a KEYBOARD! ARRGGGH!!!... ok, BREATHE... i'm still in. just wonder why?
    - using flash. an app RIFE with FN key shortcut functions. now i have to use an additional FN key modifier key to access them - command+FN+f8... WHAT, THREE KEYS to add a symbol now? am i using a laptop here?
    - suddenly my option, command, spacebar no longer works the magnify tool in illustrator...

    GRRRRR - just tossed the new keyboard and plugged in the old one and THANKFULLY, life is back to where i left it!

    another apple hardware effort. another significant blunder. IBM tried this with the PC junior about 17 years ago and they quickly came back to what worked...

    imac round mouse - BAD IDEA
    g4 qube - horribly BAD IDEA
    mighty mouse - all over the place BAD IDEA
    chicklet keyboard - who didnt see this one coming?

    WARNING: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH KVM SWITCHES

    First of all, this keyboard looks and feels great. However, I will be returning it because it doesn't work with my Iogear KVM switch, which I need to use to access multiple computers. There are multiple posts about this in the support forum, and it seems the keyboard doesn't work with ANY KVM switch, so if that's a requirement, get a different keyboard.

    Don't buy this!

    I was a 100% Mac addict until this product hit me. It's beautiful, hip and that was what I fell for until I tried using it. Typing on it feels like running a marathon on tarmac barefoot.

    I'm not a keyboard pounder, I would rate myself a light to average finger-weight typist but still l I had to stop using it after less than 10 minutes. That is not a good thing. There's very little cushioning in the keys and even less depth for rebound.

    The other problem I found was that it's additional USB ports, though very helpful, did not have enough design height to allow my very average USB memory stick to dock! Not good again.

    After three days of trying to live with this beautiful thing, I had to go out and buy another keyboard. Try the Kensington Slimtype keyboard. It's reasonably priced and works well.

    This keyboard gets no star from me if this review program allows me to choose this option but I can't post this review if I don't choose a star.

    Style over substance

    Wish I hadn't bought it. 1 week old and already the caps lock is dodgy - and it's the only key that lights up. I can see lots of dirt getting into the keys - gaps too big. Spend more money on practicalities and less on making it shiny. When are you going to make an ergonomic keyboard? What about adding ambient light to the keys? Oh, one other thing, you have to download the keyboard software to make the function keys work and if you have a powerbook like me the volume keys etc.. don't work any more. Great

    A Pretty Piece of Junk

    All these great reviews totally baffled! This is THE WORST KEYBOARD I'VE EVER TYPED ON!

    My previous review didn't show up and further testing has revealed that i rated this junk far too highly.

    PROS:
    • An absolutely gorgeous design
    • Simple sturdy aluminum base with little room for gunk to get in

    SUMMARY: Clean and Pretty

    CONS:
    • Cheapo chiclet keys - crud that should be relegated to space constraints of laptops
    • No board contour - a lousy trend in general, made worse by also having flat chiclet keys!
    • Wonky USB ports (as detailed in many reviews)
    • No backlighting - been wishing and hoping
    • Undersized function keys - another stupid trend made worse by having lousy chiclet keys!
    • No real feel or feedback, making it...
    • Easy to miss keys or hit extras, leading to...
    • MY TYPING SPEED HALVED OR POSSIBLY SLOWER!
    • New stupid layout - a fix for what wasn't broken
    • REALLY PATHETIC, STUBBY, FLAT, SQUARE, WIMPY, NO-FEEDBACK, CHICLET KEYS!

    SUMMARY: Unusable!

    This thing is strictly for people who've grown up using only cheapo laptop keyboards. A $20 generic would be better for typing.

    Keyboard shortcuts do not match the MacBook What was Apple thinking??????

    I purchased this keyboard to use with my MacBook. None of the keyboard shortcuts match the shortcuts on the MacBook. What possible reason would Apple have for not being consistent throughout their product lines? Amazing! Unbelievable!

    I only bought this because my previous keyboard broke (space bar stopped working), making this keyboard #3 in 3 years. Hopefully 3 is my lucky number, as I'm now on my third power supply for my iMac G5 as well. This was the most basic keyboard I found in the Apple store at my local mall. Apparently you can't get anything for under $50, whereas my previous Apple keyboard was around $30. So I plug it in and find that I can no longer control the volume or screen brightness through the keyboard, since I am still running Panther (10.3.9) and this requires you have 10.4.10. The function keys are way too small and I have to lean in close to read the print on them. As a replacement, it's an inferior product at a higher cost. Apparently Apple is trying to force people to upgrade since this thing only works correctly with Tiger and you can't get the old keyboard anymore. No problem, I'll be upgrading to Vista shortly.

    I was disappointed with this keyboard....I actually hated it. I traded my keyboard with someone else, for the regular apple keyboard. Its hard to get used to, and after a month of having it, I decided to give it up. The keys are weird because they're really small and it feels like you don't have to push down a lot, but you actually do. It made me mess up too much. Me no like.

    Loved it for new iMac but

    I love it for the new iMac, so I bought one for G5/MacPro combo switched by KVM. I ignored the other posts about it not working. Should have heeded. DOES NOT WORK WITH KVM. How can that be?
    I don't get it. Why? I don't know how to rate the stars because on one machine it's great, on two it is a paperweight.
