Works well, but...
The case looks good and works well. The Smart cover function is very nifty. However, I thought it would make the iPad easier to hold. This is not the case. There is a sharp seam that runs around the entire case. This digs into your hands when you're holding it. And while the smart case folds up and makes a great stand, it's just left flapping there when you're trying to hold it. I will probably use this only when I take the iPad out of the house. However, while it is easy to put on, it is difficult to take off. …

Protects the iPad but loses its lines.

Great case!
I brought this green smart case for my ipad 3 (retina screen) and it fits great and feels amazing. I had a tatty one I got off eba y on the day of release (march 2012) and it has pretty much fallen to pieces. Advice I can tell anyone is pay a little bit extra for an apple one, quality is so so much better and will last a lot longer. Worth the money! …

Yes. It will prevent it as long as you don't drop it in a way that the back hits the floor. I have t he same cover and I dropped the iPad on a concrete sideway while walking. The cover prevented the iPad but the cover itself is a little damaged. Nothing much. The iPad fell face down on the sidewalk. But there was no damage to the iPad. :) …
