Very fast, cool design, fair price!

It's really fast and you really don't notice any other devices using the station in the connectivity, the option to open a guest network is simply great. The design is very "Apple-Like" and the price is fair. But I only gave 4 stars, because there is no modem in it, and I don't understand it. Where's the probleme to build a modem into the station? Maybe it'd push up the price a little bit, but I'd pay it. Now you have to buy a modem (which is not from Apple) and you need more space. That doesn't look very good and for me it's unusual.

I did not liked the video image , if compare to the netgear 6300. Easy set up, but if you are into video and photos, the resolution is poor.

No Time Machine USB Disk; No AirPrint

Like many of you I'm an Apple fanatic. Yet I'm seriously underwhelmed by the Airport Devices.

The Airport Extreme can't share it's drive as a Time Machine volume (See Apple's article PH4327), or better, the website Pondini .org which actually provides details.

You can connect a printer, but the Airport Extreme not going to add AirPrint (for iPads) to that printer. (Not that this would be hard for Apple)

I returned an Airport Express for this because the 2012 Express kneecapped ethernet at 100mbs/sec (vs GB). I'm reticent about getting a Time Capsule as that has many 2 star reviews mainly complaining that it has poor throughput as a router and the disks fail dismally after ~2 years.

Might as well get a 3rd party NAS for disk sharing. At least those are competitively overpriced. But that makes me wonder - why bother with the Extreme?

i have used this device for about a year now and even though the connection is good there is an awfully annoying BUZZing sound when the WiFi is used. have changed the device twice at the apple store and still the same problem. Apple should do a recall and replace all of them (but they never will).

The needs more inputs.... this is not Extreme enough.

These days there are multiple computers, game machines, etc.

Therefore I have to use a switch that greatly degrades the quality.

It's A Great Router But I Can't Connect A Stereo To It Like The Express Apple Please Add This Feature To The Airport Express And The Time Machine Plus Their Both More Expensive Than The Express Don't You Think They Would Have The Same And Better Features And More. But Otherwise You Should Buy It.

The easiest and most powerful router I've ever set up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thru the high end versions of Netgear, Trendnet, cisco linksys and Belkin... and sick of them I bought an Airport Extreme and couldn't believe how easy and straight forward it is to set up this baby, I use Wifi Analyzer to monitor my wifi speed when transferring large files from my MacBook pro to my server using 5GHz and open authentication with out broadcasting the SSID and is pretty steady at 450 Mbps within 30ft range and 365 Mbps at 40ft, I stream HD movies from my server while Airplaying to my HDTV with out any delays.
BEST ROUTER YOU CAN BUY WITH NO DOUBT!!!!!!!!!

P.S. after a week I realize that I actually needed a Time Capsule (because you cannot back up wirelessly by plugging an external HDD to the airport extreme) so I exchanged it and it is exactly the same product plus a 2TB HDD

I have really enjoyed and used my Airport Extreme Base station, that is until it died this morning with no ability to resuscitate. Have been using an external drive and printer with easy set up, and was able to set up Time Machine on it. Only wish it was more reliable! This is my second one in 8 years AND now I will have to buy another one. Get Applecare -- I wish I had!

One again, Apple knocks it out of the Park. I have used them all including 2 of the most recent Cnet top 5's (June 2012) and returned both to Staples. My network now consists of AirPort Extreme and 3 Airport Express (2 used as Extenders and one for AirPlay on my sound system)

Performance is unmatched and the seamless switch between the 2 bands is incredible. It is very easy to set up via the OSX on board AirPort Utility app. Once set up you can download the iOS AirPort Utility app for you iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Apple just does things right and while not flashy the AirPort line of products are unequalled.

    A fantastic device...

I have recently replaced a perfectly functional router with an AirPort Extreme.
Unbelievably easy to set up, it was significantly faster for both PC & Mac clients than my Belkin router, and in a test, faster too than a Cisco Aironet AP.
I have not yet used the USB hard drive/printer connection on the device so can't comment on that, but everything else works exactly as you'd expect. The three ports at the back are very fast, and I upgraded this from an AirPort Express unit specifically so I could plug in three LAN cabled devices in my media area for streaming/using content anywhere within the wireless network.
I also have 3 AirPort Express units that are used as wireless range extenders in a big old house with solid stone walls (at least 3 feet thick). These were very easy to set up to the base AirPort Extreme, and far faster (almost 3 x as fast Data speed) than the powerline adapters to get Internet across the building.
In short, simply brilliant and I have no idea why I didn't do this before... It would have saved huge amounts of time and much more money than these devices cost me...

Don't let the bad comments fool you. This is an amazing product. I was skeptical if the airport extreme would be better than my linksys router overall. MY GOD. I'll confess that the range is essentially the same but the internet speed.......

    VERY NOTICEABLE INCREASE!!!

I LOVE this router. Have had it for two years now and have never had an issue. I cannot say enough good things about it. I got tired of having to replace my router every year so decided to invest in an AirPort, am so glad I did. Like everything else Apple, it is so low-maintenance and just figures everything out itself. No complicated installation, it literally worked itself out. Another great feature is how quickly it alerts you if you go offline. Every router I've had in the past has made it difficult to determine whether the router or the modem is the issue, the AirPort just pops right up and tells you. This product is worth every dime, you will not regret it!

    Reliability and speed

I tried 2 other brands in the $40 to $50 range. The first one needed reset daily, and the 2nd caused all sorts of delays and hang-ups using AirPlay (I couldn't get music to stream). I have AT&T U-verse or home Internet, which is supposed to be fast. I loved when I powered up the AirPlay, and connected my IPAD - It walked me through it! Now I'm pushing Pandora over Airplay, while watching Netflix, and push my home network really hard. It doesn't flinsh. I haven't played with any advanced network features and really don't care to. Nothing's more important that reliability and speed.

I tried 2 Cisco routers - E4200 and E4500. They looked really cool but the speeds were highly inconsistent with both these routers. Bought the AirPort Extreme and have it for over a month now ... I absolutely love it! Setup was a breeze and the speeds are phenomenal. Highly recommended!!
