Yes, you can alter Excel spreadsheets in Numbers. I loaded a spreadsheet from Excel and all the formatting, including colors were there and I was able to format and modify formulas, just as in Excel. It took some getting used to when I worked with the formulas, because the user interface is different from that in Excel, but not a big problem. I don't recall how I got the spreadsheet into the iPad, it may have been via the iMac and the USB cable.

what is the app that tracks theft you can download
I saw where a star was car jacked and the app not only retrieved the ipad, but got the thief arrested. GPS app for Ipad is what I am looking for or app to turn on I have the 3rd gen IPAD just purchased, 32G. thank you.

AnswerApple's iCloud is built in to iOS 6 and has a bit of a tracking feature, called "Find my iPhone". It works with iPhones, but also iPods, iPads and MacBooks. It does "track" your computer, but as I learned with a recent theft of my MacBook, the tracking is only approximate. You can configure your iCloud tracking feature in your Settings App.
There are also third party tracking apps. I can't see how they could track any better, as the tracking is limited by the physical features of the devices, not software. However, they can offer extra features, such as taking photos automatically and sending them to you. "Prey" is one such service, I'm subscribed to it, but haven't really had to "test" it yet. If I make a recording on an iPad can I not send it to a place that a pc user can access it without a fee?
I am used to using my pc laptop in teaching music lessons. I can make a recording using sound recorder, save it as an mp3 and my students bring a flashdrive whereby they can take the music with them when they leave and use it at home. I'd like to use the iPad mini for this but - no usb, no sound recorder, some students aren't apple customers. I guess I could use Garage Band a record a "song" but how do I send it to students? If they don't have iCloud access what other cloud could I use that would be accessible for them without paying a fee? If I can't answer these questions I guess I'll need to stay with my pc.

Best AnswerThere are several, PayPal and Square both have the ability with a little swipe appliance that fits in the earphone jack of the iPad/iPhone. It's a matter of what you are willing to pay per transaction...2.5%, 2.69% or whatever else may be out there. Lots to choose from, all with their own apps. I've tried Square, and it works great; I have PayPal and it works fine too.
