MagSafe 2 is slightly smaller, leading to more room in the computer for components. If you have MagSafe (original) power cords and want to use those, they have an adapter in/on the Apple Store for about $10.

Worth knowing:
Compared to the magnificently engineered MagSafe Side adapter, the MagSafe2 cable is stiffer, coils poorly and the connector protrudes about 3/4 inch from the body of the mac.

The Magsafe power cable is designed for the older Macbook Pros and features a connector which designed to be attached on to the Macbook from the side. The Magsafe 2 is designed for the newer computers ie Macbook Airs and comes out straight and is attached straight.
