What's the difference between MagSafe and MagSafe 2?

    MagSafe 2 is slightly smaller, leading to more room in the computer for components. If you have MagSafe (original) power cords and want to use those, they have an adapter in/on the Apple Store for about $10.

  • Worth knowing:

    Compared to the magnificently engineered MagSafe Side adapter, the MagSafe2 cable is stiffer, coils poorly and the connector protrudes about 3/4 inch from the body of the mac.

    In my humble opinion it is not as elegant an industrial design solution as it's predecessor.

  • It's the size. It's made slightly thinner than the previous one to fit the thin design of macbook air and the new retina display macbook pro.

  • The Magsafe power cable is designed for the older Macbook Pros and features a connector which designed to be attached on to the Macbook from the side. The Magsafe 2 is designed for the newer computers ie Macbook Airs and comes out straight and is attached straight.

  • The plug for MagSafe 2 is a different shape than the plug for MagSafe (aluminum).
