Can you transfer the video (home movie) onto a dvd to keep?!
I would like to make HD home movies and then put them onto a dvd to keep, is an ipad the answer or am i better buying a HD camcorder?

No the iPad will not be the best solution. For recording, it is awkward recording with. For editing it should be fine. For storing to DVD not possible one the device, you would have to send them to your computer then burn it there. I recommend a HD Camcorder that uses SD cards and a decent computer at least, but recommend a MacBook Pro (non retina model) to edit and burn
