    Waste of Money

    • Written by from Safford

If you are looking for something that will just cover the face of the Ipad and shut it off for you then this is the product for you. If you would like to use it as a stand, don't waste your money. What would ever make someone think a 2 inch triangle will hold up a 10 inch Ipad? Stupidest thing I ever saw.

    DO NOT BUY!

    • Written by from Oakland

This case has proven to be pretty worthless. Not only does the magnetic strip constantly disconnect, but it has caused my iPad to fall over on a desk multiple times. One time it fell over and slipped off the desk cracking the glass in the corner. Do not buy as this cover will cause you more pain than you want.

    Price

For the price of this product and what it does I would not recommend this to anyone. I do not believe this product is worth $79.00.

    Buy something else

    • Written by from Kettering

Have this cover and it leaves three smuges on the screen everytime I close it. The magnet clasp thing always falls off. Paid the extra money for the leather only to find out its not worth it. Again paying for the "Appple" name.

Good idea bad design and magnet

    • Written by from rochester

I bought this case with my ipad2, and at first thought it was great. Until someone picked it up by the case and the magnet didnt hold the iPad. In result it smashed the screen costing me half what I paid for it. Awful design.

    Awful Stylish, Awful Stand

    • Written by from Apo

As a screen cover it is okay. As a stand it is awful, terrible and essentially unusable.

Even on a flat surface when upright the iPad often tips over with slight taps. Even worse, the magnets pop loose necessitating a fumble fest to orient it to correct edge.

If propped in the wedge shape it collapses at most inconvenient times.

I might not complain if it had only cost $19.95. I would have just tossed it for its replacement. Now I am stuck with a floppy leather pen pad.

Caused my new iPad 3 to shatter!

    • Written by from HERSEY

I've used an iPad 1 for over a year. I saved up my $$$ to buy a New iPad(3). I decided to splurge and get the slick leather "Smart Cover". I had the fun of organizing it and transferring my Apps, and was feeling pretty chipper taking it to work the next morning. The magnets weren't strong enough to hold it. It sepperated from the "magnetic" case and it landed on a paving stone. It shattered and I have to pay $300 to get a replacement. I have been transporting my old iPad in a $14 case that protected it from a few falls. This $70 case cost me $300 in the long run! I would like to formally complain, but I can't figure out how.

Don't buy a smart cover till you've read this

    • Written by from Trowbridge

I purchased an Ipad3 from my local Apple store and at the same time a leather smart case that attaches to the iPad via magnets. All was fine until I tried to take a photograph with my new iPad. I held the pad by 2 hands one around the folded cover and one on the other side of the pad frame. I took my hand off the frame to press the photo off and the pad fell out of the cover and smashed on the tile floor. The magnets are not strong enough and can give up the grip to easily. Sold by Apple at an inflated price for what you get those covers are NOT fit for purpose. The iPad still works but it landed on the corner and the frame shattered,

Save Your iPad - Don't buy a 'Smart' cover

    • Written by from Portland

The magnet doesn't work well on the "new iPad" at all. Easily comes unattached. As I was carrying my 10-day old iPAd this AM the $79 not-so-'smart' cover slid and the iPad fell 2 feet, hit on it's corner and the glass shattered. Do what I should have done and get a real cover.

    A Waste of Money.

    • Written by from CHICAGO

The product is poorly made. At first its great. But over time the cover separates and deteriorates at the edges and just falls apart. Aside from that, it doesn't keep the screen free of fingerprints. Apple should be ashamed to sell this.

    Poor quality and design

    • Written by from Monroe

I chose to buy my iPad cover from Apple because I assumed it would be of excellent quality. Boy was I wrong! I wanted a black cover and so had to buy the leather version because the poly one does not come in black. I LOVE my iPad, but I hate the cover and regret buying it. First, the magnetic hinges frequently come off the iPad. Second, the quality is poor, and although I’ve only had it for a little over a month it seems to be well on the way to falling apart. Third, when folded int the two stand positions, it isn’t very stable. Fourth and most egregious is the fact that the leather is almost suede-like and is easily stained and smudged and not easily cleaned. After a month of use, the thing is filthy. This is the first product sold by Apple that has been a disappointment, and in the future I will buy my Apple related accessories from outside vendors. For example, my two iPhone covers (not from Apple) have been of high quality, very durable and less expensive.

    Poor Design!

    • Written by from Casselberry

I recently purchased the apple smart cover in leather. I first want to state that I hate to rate an apple product this low as everything else I have of apple is amazing. I went to Best Buy and purchased the leather smart cover for the ipad2. I wanted to see what would happen if I used some leather conditioner on it and the dye came off. 1st down fall, then I handed my wife the iPad and the cover came unhooked from the side and oops the iPad went falling to the tile. I saved it from the blow. I decided to look elsewhere for a more protected covering for the iPad.
Sorry apple, I wanted to give it a good review but as of now, I can't. Beware of this problem as it could come loose at the point of where it connects to the side of your ipad2.

    Not fit for purpose

    • Written by from Aylesbury

I am experiencing the same issues as many of the other reviews have outlined. After 6 months of normal use the cover is falling apart. The leather is coming away from the cardboard base and becoming torn at the hinges. This build quality is unacceptable at the price point of £56 and therefore should be thought of as not fit for purpose.

only 2 viewing angles, 1 that's potentially harmful to tablet

    • Written by from Orlando

The limited (2) viewing positions is something I continue to find frustrating. Worse, is that while the lower viewing angle works well, the higher viewing angle causes the tablet to "drop" onto whatever surface (desk, table, counter, etc.), potentially damaging the tablet.

Apple's video demonstration of these 2 viewing angles is also misleading, given that most users will find themselves needing to tap the glass area harder to type, than what's being demonstrated on the video.

And, I agree with the other iPad users that $70 is expensive, for the build-quality of this iPad cover case.
