I love it. That's all I can say about it. It's sturdy, charges pretty fast and you can sit it on your nightstand for convienence.

    A nice stand

This stand securely supports and positions the iPad to be charged and synced. In my opinion, its one flaw is that part of the front is covered up and I dislike that just for the looks, but it does keep the iPad held secure.

    Equally disappointed

Sad, that in Apples usual near perfect designs, they don't accommodate the one thing that physically separates the first and second versions, something that costs 10% of the product itself.

Without the Smart Cover, and it fits fine, but it still feels like a design flaw to have to either remove, fold back or just leave the cover flapping undignified at the front.

In my opinion I will probably use this as a bedside stand to charge the iPad overnight.

My two main gripes with this accessory are...
    1. I bought this to be used with the Digital AV connector. However, the ipad can only be positioned in portrait; this is fine for most applications but when connecting via the Digital AV connector most movies, pictures would be more suited to being displayed in landscape.
    2. The smart cover does not sit neatly behind the ipad when docked, therefore it either needs to be removed completely each time the dock is used or it has to be folded to one side, which looks untidy.
Overall disappointed. I would have expected more thought from Apple given the innovative ideas that have gone into the iPad and the price of the accessory.

Not really worth getting. Several faults in my opinion:

    - Does not accommodate iPad with the Smart Cover on
    - Pretty fiddly to line up iPad with connector
    - The dock is HUGE!

    Apple iPad2 Dock

The Dock is narrow, and it allows the iPad to rock under varying conditions... Ask yourself how long will the iPad's connecting port last under the stress of supporting it's entire weight by its connecting jack? I obtained my iPad 2 & dock less than 6 months ago, the dock no longer charges the iPad. Is it broken? No. The oblique angle simply no longer allows proper connection. I now have to similarly stress the original cable when connected to coax a charging connection. Pass on the dock and just use the supplied power cord.

The concept of the stand is great, but when you have the full package including smart cover it doesn't fit with the cover attached.

    Adjustable Docks are the answer!

    • Written by from HAMDEN

The problem with all of Apple's docks (iPad2, iPhone, iPod) is, that as soon as you put any case on your device, however thin, it no longer fits in the dock. Charging your device is impossible without removing the cover. In the case of my 64GB, iPad2, a thin Mareware protective back cover for my iPad2 renders my dock useless. Knowing that people are going to want to protect such an expensive investment should be taken into account when Apple designs their docks. A little extra wiggle room wouldn't be so difficult to design into the docks.
"IDEA!!!!!!", maybe even some front to back adjustability, to accommodate different size cases.

DOES NOT WORK WITH IPAD SMART COVER

the unnecessary lip at the bottom prevents you from using this with the super awesome smart covers... how dumb can they be? I'm supposed to take my cover off every time i put it on the dock to charge?

Tired of hearing you can't use smart cover with this product! YOU CAN!!

You CAN use the smart cover with this product so stop saying you can't. Just put the iPad 2 in the dock with the smart cover OPEN then after the i pad 2 is in the dock simply close the cover. When your ready to use the iPad 2 simply pull it off like usual. When your finished repeat the process. i can't believe you all complain, when all that needs to be done is something simple... Americans are getting lazier and lazier.

    Pretty Good

I like this dock because it seems very stable and accommodates the iPad 2 much more securely than the first generation dock for the iPad 1. The previous review about the dock being "huge" is true, but this also gives peace of mind as it is much more stable than the previous iPad original dock. Also, comments about it being difficult to align the iPad 2 are sometimes true if you don't make the effort to get the home button and 30 pin connector together.

There is nothing i don't like about this dock because i took the effort to make sure it worked properly.

Overall, this dock is very good because of its stability and ease of use because it is very well built and looks brilliant on my desk.

Only works well with a naked iPad - no covers

The dock doesn't work well with the smart cover on. You have to leave it partially open, which makes it a bit unstable. Otherwise you have to take the smart cover off completely. I also bought a thin gel cover that slips onto the back of the iPad to protect it. Now I cannot use the dock at all, but the gel cover is such a great accessory that I refuse to do without. The gel cover was designed to use with the apple smart cover, but is not an Apple product. The smart cover is a pretty good stand if you are happy with landscape mode for your photo frame, so I would not recommend the dock unless you have money to blow.

Should fit with Apple Brand iPad cases

The Smart Case interferes and doesn't allow iPad to plug into this Dock connector. Shouldn't have to pull the iPad out of the case just to use this - sort of defeats the purpose of a case, doesn't it Apple?

Why on earth would apple make a stand that doesn't fit if you use the case they make? It won't even work with the smart cover they make and sell! Ridiculous. I'm returning it, terrible design, terrible product, very disappointed Apple would make something this poor.

    Improvement over original iPad dock

The previous version was smaller, less stable and you could only dock the iPad naked. The new dock is bulkier and heavier for more stability. The trick to docking the iPad with smart cover is to open the smartcover, dock the iPad and then you can close the cover.

Can't fit the iPad in the dock with the smart cover on. That's a pretty glaring flaw.
The iPad doesn't connect easily, it's a bit awkward to get it snapped in.
    Doesn't support landscape mode.

$29 for a weighted piece of plastic that holds up the iPad 2. It works nicely, though you can forget entirely using a cover with the iPad if you are going to prop it up with this. I just cannot believe that the accessories for all things Apple are so incredibly expensive!

I will check back in five business days to see if they "allowed" my review. I will be shocked if they did.

    poorly conceived

I bought this dock with intentions of it being a tidy way to charge and view the ipad. it is not.
    - the smart cover gets in the way of the dock. your option is to constantly take it off or leave it flapping.
    - the dock is not compatible with the iphone (or anything else). a shared dock for the kitchen top would be so much more useful. is this greed on apple's part or bad design?
    - it's portrait only, therefore no good for picture or video viewing. more care on how this was designed could have meant a landscape holder (e.g. sprung plug), even if you had to charge with a cable dangling in the end.
    - it's fiddly. because there are no left/right guides it doesn't fit home comfortably.

in short a waste of money, maybe a 3rd party dock has a better answer to the current limitations.

Do not be dissuaded by the negative reviews of this iPad 2 charging dock. It works and functions perfectly for me. I could not ask for anything more. It makes my iPad 2 even more valued that it already was.
And I use my Apple Smartcover always. There are 3 ways you can do that.
    1. Leave the Smart cover on your iPad. Open the cover, place the iPad into the dock. Then close the cover. Not difficult, folks.
    2. Leave the Smart cover on your iPad. Simply fold the cover into a triangle on that side of the iPad and leave it attached to the iPad. Place the iPad into the dock. Duh.
    3. Gently pull the cover off. Fold it into a triangle and set it behind the dock. Place the iPad into the dock. Easy. And no, the smart cover has NEVER scratched my iPad.
