I purchased the Airport Express yesterday out of frustration with my 2008 router. It was always so complicated when I needed to reset the old one. The Airport was super easy to set up. I am in a two story home and the signal is strong everywhere. Needless to say this is a major upgrade and I'm happy.

    Minor confusion for set up

Now that I have the product up and running it's fine. However, the instructions are not written very well. They tell you to plug in all the cables to the airport express and then plug into the outlet. It will glow solid amber and then blink amber until set up and connection are complete and it turns solid green. Well, I did exactly what it said and it was still blinking amber after several hours. There is nothing in the instructions saying that this should take maybe 5 minutes max. So I called, and the sales clerk wasn't entirely sure, but after awhile he suggested that I go online and create my network name and password first. I did this via my iphone since I had already disconnected my previous wireless router. After that everything was perfect and took no time at all. Not sure why the instruction booklet doesn't call this out. Kind of crucial to do this before unhooking everything. Device syncs awesome and I have already been able to print wireless from my iphone and my mac. I love convenience.

...to my 6 year old airport express that died when I had to get a new router. The set up went smoothly using my 6 year old iMac. I use the AEBS connected to my surround sound stereo and an amp to power the speakers in my backyard since my receiver isn't powerful enough to handle the load. I can play all of the music from my iTunes library using my iMac, iPhone, and iPad. The only issue is that I have to use an Ethernet cable connected to my AT&T Uverse box because I can't stream wirelessly for some reason. I will probably figure it out later when I am not taking care of the clan.

I purchased two of these with the intent of networking thru my three story home and my base station being at the lowest level. I set up the main unit in minutes and it worked immediately . I then went about setting the second unit on my second floor. This was more of an issue and this is the reason for the one star loss. The instructions did not show how to have the devices network! I had to in the end to talk to the Apple help line which the first person struggled and then the manager come on and explained a very simple solution. This was so simple it should have been in the small instruction booklet.
I also take the unit on vacation with me so i ensure i have great wirless. I went to Mexico where the reviews showed poor reception in the rooms and connected the airport to the hardwire and immeditaly my apple devises were up and running.

Just moving into our new home, and we needed a new router in a pinch. I knew it would be an Apple router, but very uncertain on which one. We decided to go with the Express and see if it would fit our needs and wants. Our home is just over 1500 sq/ft and this little router covers not just our house, but our entire lot. Full bars no matter where we were at on our property. We have a large backyard and front yard so I was very surprised by how powerful this little guy was. I even ran the OS X wireless diagnostics test, strength was strong throughout the house with very little noise. Towards the backyard the noise increased, but the mac showed full bars as so did my phone. The router is positioned dead center in our house, and depending on where you put yours could present different results.

I use the express at home to extend my iTunes to my stereo and a 2nd one to a boom box next to my patio. I had one of the older ones that died after about 6 years and I bought the new version to replace it. I wish it was a bit smaller and still had the integrated plug for travel, but performance is great and setup is easy. I've used lots of netgear and linksys routers and find this much easier to set up and range is very good.

    Airport to DAC

Great product for ease of use, easy to set up, good with music IF you just use the audio out. The sound is not bad, but not as good as an external DAC. So here is the problem Apple, try to use the optical out to a DAC and yes the sound quality is good, the signal breaks up though!

    Any help would be welcome

its faster than muy wireless modem.. its recognized and setup buy my iphone.. works amazing in distance , and just super happy with the Air play... i would not recomend getting the Extreme vertion for USB harddrive back ups or use in general.. USB Ethernet- Wireless drives are really really slow.. just go for a Ethernet or USB 3

Easy set up and cool profile

Got it today, unboxed it and plugged it into my mac and the auto set-up came up. 2min later it was running and all my devices connected. Simple. price wise better than some of the belkin "N" routers on the markets and a lot smaller than them. Can't speak on range compared to Belkin but fine for medium sized apartment.

It was very easy set up. But my wife will not be able to do it. I threw out my old linksys wireless router which was about 6 years old and was ready for a new one.

Consistent signal and data rate within a two-story colonial in a residential neighborhood. Very easy to setup. Price is a bit steep, but you get what you pay for. I never give 5 stars, but this one is pretty close.

Bought this to replace the router function of my virgin super hub. Easy to setup through my iMac, took literally a few minutes. Solved the constant wifi drops from the VM Superhub. Overall great little device.

Cons: Bit pricey and also wireless signal not extremely strong for even my 2 Bed Apartment, but enough for me to use in lounge.

Just bought the airport express to replace an old router. Very easy to set up, the only drawback I found was trying to create a guest network. Instructions are very general, was not able to set one up. Not a big deal but still a bit disappointed. All in all a great product and would definitely recommend it

Very easy to set up. Coverage better than First Generation Airport Express

I was amazed how easy this device was to set up. I plugged it in, and it was recognized by my ipad. A few screens, input the password, and it has been working ever since.

I am not a fan of the power cord- but I used the plug from the original airport express and it plugs into the wall just like the original version. Not the smooth form factor you would expect from Apple- but it works.

I wish Apple would ship a legacy plug and the cord- that way I could still use the original airport (or give to someone else) instead of now hunting for a plug for it.

Overall- I am pleased with the increased speed and range of my network (Gen 4 Airport Extreme).

I mainly bought this for AirPlay use - it's superb. I can now box away my old CD player and CD's

However, one other feature which I hoped would be better was to use it as a wireless bridge to an existing network. Now if you have an Airport Extreme it works (from what I've read) - but for me with a Draytek (Seems it only really likes the Airport Extreme) router it doesn't.

It's not the end of the world to be honest - I should have read up about it first and as it's primary role is AirPlay I'm very happy with that.

Overall a nice product, same size as the Apple TV 2/3 and the fact it's got a separate mains cable now means it doesn't fall out of the wall like the previous version of the express.
