First off I love the product in working with my Mac but I wish that they would finally release support for the iPad to eliminate touching the screen. I would love a response as to why allow keyboard support for the iPad and not support for Magic Track Pad for Touching.

I've been bought the trackpad for a christmas present. It took just a day or two to really get into the features it has. One I particularly like is instead of making a click to go to view and then rotate when viewing and rotating a picture, simply use two fingers and make rotating motion with them on the trakpad and it does it...What an outstanding piece of kit...My computer is on a shelf on my wall above my bed so this is perfect. Even siting on uneven quilt I don't have to worry that the red laser won't register properly and wildly dart over the screen resulting in wrong icon selection for example. Also if you have the matching slim keyboard, when sat on a surface they both go side by side very neatly together making it a slick functional unit. If you have an apple with bluetooth then this is a must!!!

I have been using this trackpad for over a year now and I can safely say that I still love it! I use both the magic mouse and magic trackpad to control my iMac and I use both of them. The trackpad is perfect for general tasks like browsing the internet and arranging files but in my opinion, I prefer to use the magic mouse for more precision tasks such as photoshop work. It was incredibly easy to set up and use, and this is from someone that first used this when I made the first switch from pc to mac. You will find quite shortly after purchase that you will be working quicker and your wrist will not ache after heavy use. In addition, I can confirm the excellence of the anti-wear desgn of the trackpad as, to date, it is still in mint condition! Build quality is superb as always, thoroughly reccomend!

Having used a magic mouse since owning my iMac, I could well imagine how simple the magic trackpad would be to use, and it didn't disappoint.
The build quality is solid as you would expect, and it compliments the look and dimensions of the wireless keyboard.
Batteries supplied, and easy to install via bluetooth.
I went straight to the system preferences to familiarise myself with the gestures, and now using the trackpad seems like second nature.
It feels so intuitive it makes web-surfing, and using gestures on OSX Lion child's play!

    Great product but....

Recently got a Mac Mini for my entertainment unit (overkill but awesome), with it I purchased the wireless keyboard and track pad. The track pad is great, works very well, is sturdy and perfect for what I wanted but- it isn't level. It acts like an annoying table with one leg too short, so that every time i click the entire pad rocks. Having said this I'm not going to take it back as its not a big deal, however for this reason alone- 4 out of 5 stars.

    Overall, very happy tho.

I had almost always used a mouse and had thought I would never want to buy or let alone use the Apple Trackpad. The trackpad on my MacBook Pro was an okay substitute to a wireless mouse I had been using, but I never saw it, as a replacement. Well, in any event I got an Apple Magic Trackpad for Christmas and boy I am very much loving it. For starters, like everything Apple makes, this item is just cool looking. Beyond the ascetics this item has no moving parts. Also the multi-finger gestures make this a great replacement to an older wireless mouse I was using. In addition I very much like the size, as it is bigger than the trackpad on my laptop. Only downside was a missing manual, so I did not realize that I needed set up the trackpad in System Preferences. After doing that I found some of the finger gestures that had not previously worked, all of sudden were performing wonders. The two finger swipe is great for moving between webpages and is one of my favorite gestures. In all I really like this item and would recommend, as a replacement to a mouse, whether wireless or wired to anyone with an Apple computer (either laptop or desktop).

At the outset I wasn't sure whether to go for a magic mouse or trackpad. With a 4 year old iMac still perfect in every way I am always looking for something to spice up my set up so I went for the magic pad. Fantastic is all I can say, what a revelation and it really makes navigation on the mac or the net a breeze.

I played with the trackpad at the Apple Store a few months ago. Absolutely loved it and it feels like it is more precise than moving a mouse around. The only reason I won't buy it is because it runs on batteries. I really wish Apple made a USB version.

I've tried really hard to like this product over several months now, hoping to make the Mac experience at least somewhat similar to that of the iPad which I love. It isn't anything like that even in those rare times I can get it to function properly. The biggest problem, for me, is friction. If the finger can't move on the surface you are not going to get anywhere. I've tried keeping the pad and my fingers dry and clean, but nothing works for more than a minute or so. Most gestures require more than one finger (unlike the iPad). The more fingers the greater the friction, which causes actions to frequently fail! Although the problem seems to lessen in cooler weather, their are other serious problems. Often, for mysterious reasons, the mouse cursor gets out of control, jumping around like crazy and making working hardly possible.
My advise: stick with your mouse or trackball. All are much more reliable than this!

Was a magic mouse user, now LOVE the Magic Trackpad!

I have not cared for trackpad-type "mice" having had them as an add-on for my desktop when they were first available, and on laptops since. I found them difficult to use compared to a good mouse or even the "eraser-point" devices on IBM laptops. I even tried using one on my friend's new MacBook Pro 2 years ago - I didn't like it and plugged in my favorite wireless mouse to set the laptop up for him.

This changed this year when my daughter got a new MacBook Pro! I really liked the new multi-finger gestures supported by the integral trackpad and OS X Lion! I picked up using the trackpad in a few hours and even found myself smiling while using it to set up the laptop - joining the family wireless LAN, adding family pictures and our music library, etc.

Last week I dropped my favorite mouse, the venerable Magic Mouse, and this time it didn't survive. I can't complain - I've dropped it at least a hundred times. I have a condition similar to narcolepsy; I suddenly fall asleep and slump back in my chair. Feeling the motion, I react by involuntarily jerking my shoulders, causing me to sling the mouse - which is in my hand - from the desktop to the floor. The magic mouse is sturdy enough that there are gouges in the hardwood floor where the mouse frequently lands. It didn't make it this last time, even though it didn't come apart. It was unable to "click" anymore.

Needing a new mouse immediately, after thinking about my mouse needs, as well as the likelyhood of me ruining another $69 Magic Mouse, I decided on a Magic track because you don'y "hold" it and because it had excellent reviews. Two days later, it was in my hands.

It is WONDERFUL!. I will be using it as long as I can use my computer (2007 20" iMac). The only adjustment I had to make was to use the control panel to set for my lighter touch, and I've been off and running. Thank you Apple!

    After 20+ years ...

After more than 20 years of working with PC mice, the purchase of the Magic Trackpad with a (first) MacBook Pro purchase five months ago was an incredible revelation. Silent. Smooth and perfectly integrated with Lion. No movement on desk. No crud on mouse. Touching more natural than twisting your wrist. Note: this trackpad can be placed in the correct location to the right or left of your (bluetooth) keyboard. Thus it is possible to comfortably and rapidly use your index finger(s) on it. In contrast, the trackpad built into the current MacBook Pro lines under the keyboard in the center seems stiff, noisy, and is best tamed using a heavy touch with your thumb. If you use a MacBook with external keyboard (bluetooth highly recommended) and an external monitor, then you need this trackpad pure and simple. Computing got more fun and wrist pain is gone.

    The "Goldy-locks" touchpad and more

    • Written by from Bundaberg

I bought this through the Apple Store online and was very impressed with how fast it arrived, as well as the detailed tracking system made available. I was made to feel like something was happening all along the way, and at no time did I feel my order had been forgotten. First impressions of the trackpad are great. It's huge! I actually bought it for my macbook when using an external monitor and apple wireless keyboard, but have also found myself using it even when just using the laptop, since the larger trackpad size makes everything easier, faster and more accurate. The texture of the trackpad surface is really nice and doesn't seem to accumulate sweat or oil from my fingertips. I haven't had any connection problems.

    Great for Graphic Design

    • Written by from Timaru

I liked the idea of the Magic Trackpad, but wondered how workable it would be for Graphic Design work. Since buying it (and going through the learning curve) I have been absolutely thrilled with its usefulness. I'm now using it 80% of the time in InDesign.

As a right handed person, I decided to train myself to use it left-handed from the start. Initially this was to reduce RSI, but I've found many other advantages as well – for example, I move the cursor around with my left hand trackpad, and keep my right hand poised over the Return key, rather than the traditional need to cross the left hand over to hit Return. In Photoshop, I navigate around with my lefthand trackpad while using a Wacom tablet to paint with my right – very user friendly.

For general use in Lion, its brilliant. Gestures work like a charm – I used to use Command + Tab for application switching, and now find activating Launchpad far smoother and easier. Navigation in Safari is outstanding.

It does take experimentation and patience to master (like any good thing) but I thoroughly recommend this device for great control & usability, and to enhance the desktop computing experience.
