Should be in the box but still...

    Written by RM from PAISLEY

Excellent product, does exactly what you expect, but really should be in the box... didn't get one before taking a dremel to my old dock though ... which works just as well but isn't as Apple-esque as the original design

    Very good

It is a very good product. Bought it with my new iPhone 3G. It fits very well and it is easy to mount / unmount the phone in the stand. The stand is heavy enough so it dont tip over when mount the phone. Could have been nice if it was also available in black, to match both color of the available iPhone colors (black and white).

Useful but should have been included with phone

    Written by SW from BIRMINGHAM

It is simple and practical. If you spend large portions of your day in front of a computer then the dock makes perfect sense. When your iPhone is docked, it is still fully functional and easily viewable at a quick glance (and it will be fully charge when you need it on the go.)
Whilst I personally feel that is should have been included with the iPhone (ala first gen iPhone), I can think of worse thing to spend £19 on. Non essential but highly recommended.

Must Have Accessory - Why Wasn't It In The Box, Apple?

    Written by FN from FRASERBURGH

    Jul 14, 2008

At the weekend, I went into town to TRY and find an iPhone 3G which I wanted so much. After much trailing round the various O2 and Carphone Warehouse shops I eventually found one... Great!

So, I took it home, opened the box and started having a little rummage around and what did I find? Well... everything apart from a dock. I know how useful these docks can be, my sister owns the first generation iPhone and its serves its purpose as a great little stand for using while at the computer (it saves the back getting scratched too!)

I had to get one. So back into town I went, and (luckily) the Carphone Warehouse had them :) It's a sturdy piece of kit which is deceptively heavy (in a good way) and you won't find yourself worrying about if it is a safe place ti keep your phone.

All-in-all, a must have for iPhone owners... But it should have been included in the box!

Not as good as the previous model

    Written by RJ from Chicago

    Jul 15, 2008

I like the way it looks, and how the phone fits into the dock, but I've had a huge problem with touching the phone anywhere on the top half and it becoming dislodged from the dock ever so slightly, disconnecting from the computer, and then reconnecting immediately. Its become a huge hassle especially with the new backing up before sync in iTunes. I'm not thrilled with this dock, compared with the previous version, and I will probably return it.

    a godsend.

Written by BL from New York

    Jul 15, 2008

I recently bought the iPhone 3G, and have been afraid to set it down for fear of scratching it. Before it was ok to set it on its back, as it was aluminum. But now the front and back seem equally in danger of scuffs and marks.

I was sad to find out that it doesn't stand up on its own, as I figure that Apple usually thinks of everything. I tried for several hours to stand the phone on-end at my desk, to no avail. A coworker of mine noticed my frustration and suggested the iPhone dock. What an amazing device! With this piece of plastic, I was able to stand my phone on end and look at it lovingly from across my desk.

Some may say the $29 price tag is steep, but I think it's a small price to pay to be able to put the phone down and get back to using my hands for typing and whatnot.

It's the same dock, for more money

    Written by NW from KIRKLAND

    Jul 15, 2008

What can I say? It's a dock, and it works fine. This is more or less the same old iphone dock that we all came to know and love when it came bundled with iPhone v1 - but now we have to pay $29 for it because it doesn't come included with iPhone 3G. For that reason, it gets only three stars from me.

This little dock is worth the money.

I use it as my place to dock my phone when it needs to be recharged.

and I am in the middle of purchasing another one for the office to have a place for my phone.

    It is 5 stars, but....

Written by CB from LAS VEGAS

    Jul 15, 2008

The dock is a five star device, all apple docks in the past have been. The problem is that it should have been included with the iphone 3G.
I'm sorry, but it is hard for me to believe that the last reviewer of this product claimed he was amazed about this device - he said he had the old iphone and laid it down because it was aluminum. (Dude, the original iphone CAME WITH THE DOCK!!! How can you be amazed at something you already knew was out there??? YOU HAD ONE!!! Were you paid for that review LOL!

    No cable?

    Written by JH from VALRICO

    Jul 16, 2008

This dock is a great idea and can be very handy for a work situation. It really irks me that I have to go find a connector cable because one is not included in the package. I want to keep the dock ready at work, and keep a dock connector in my laptop bag for syncing and charging on the go. I find it very frustrating to purchase a seperate cable to power it up. Cables aren't that expensive, one should be included for the price of this accessory.

Does Not Fit With Case On

    Written by ZS from Sydney

    Jul 16, 2008

The fit in this dock is very tight, and as such will only fit the iPhone if it isn't in any sort of case. For my iPhone with a hard case with quite a snug fit this makes the dock unusable for me

    A Must Have!

    Written by KW from GRIFFIN

    Jul 16, 2008

There is no doubt that living with your brand new iphone 3G without a dock is unacceptable. Anyone who had the first generation iphone understands what I mean, Once you live with a dock, it is just crazy to live without one. the ease of being able to sit it down in the dock quickly takes less than a second, and its even quicker taking it out. it sits upright so you can see it clearly. the sound is just as loud when it is resting in the dock. and no matter what minor cons we can think of, it is out-weighed by the fact that who wants to continue to use a cord or lay that precious phone we all bow down to on a table with the ever so slight possibility of scratching the back. its a guarantee, and you will appreciate it way more than using what came with the iphone. and yes its $30, you already paid for the phone i think we can shell a little bit more

    Just a dock

    Written by SD from DURHAM

    Jul 17, 2008

    Pros:

    - The viewing angle of the dock looks pretty natural when used on your desk, but also on the average night stand.

    - Easy to dock and undock. Fits snugly, but not too tight

    - Small and easy to take to an office

    Cons:

    - No extra cord

    - Don't ask me how, but it's easy to knock over face forward. Wouldn't have been a problem if the "base" area was a little bigger

Overal not a bad solution, but I went with a all silicone cover. No te phone doesn't fit in the dock unless you uncover the bottom part of the skin. This could have been prevented if the connector had variable height options.

Without a cover the phone would scratch so I think I will get rid of the dock and just lay it flat.

This is a very useful device which is why it originally came with the phone. Irratatingly the previous one just doesn't fit!! "Cheaper" phone now hidden extra cost.
    Not attractive marketing!

    Hard to Say...

Written by CA from Ann Arbor

    Jul 18, 2008

This dock is definitely a miracle... It fits your iPhone 3G snugly and it's perfect if you're obsessive over the tiniest scratches.
The only thing I'm not too happy about is that I had to pay for an extra USB cable plus this dock, which (as you all know) came with the iPhone 2G originally anyway...
If it came with a dock then I wouldn't be writing a review, since I would've had one anyway.
    But that's fine, it's a good dock.
It works perfectly and I see no flaws in the product.

Works great, until you buy a case

    Written by RH from Atsubetsu-ku

    Jul 19, 2008

In a strange oversight that I can't really explain, Apple engineers seem to have created a dock that can't be used by a large number of owners without considerable inconvenience. Since a lot of people are likely to buy a case for their phone, it's worth pointing out, that in the majority of cases you're either going to need to remove your phone from its case every time you want to dock it, or buy the more expensive universal dock which can hold a phone inside its case (albeit only when you remove the small plastic adapter).

For those with slide-in cases, this might be fine, but if you buy something like a silicon rubber jacket (which a lot of people use for its anti-shock potential), it's basically not worth the hassle (or the wear and tear) to keep removing it and putting it back on.
