    Too expensive

Honestly I love the product but hate it at the same time. I love how it tracks my runs and syncs music to help you keep motivated... However I haven't even had it six months and now its saying low battery and come to find out I can't even buy a new battery I have to by a whole new kit. That to me is absolutely ridiculous and I will move to a pedometer at this point because I have already invested way too much thus far.

Not necessarily for the longer distance runner

It's a bit of a gimmick and it does enable you to keep track of when you run and what time you did; but I find it not very accurate. It loses accuracy by 1K every 5K! I run 30K a week and mine didn't last a year. The battery ran out and you can't replace it; so you end up having to buy another pod for £14. And iPhone isn't supported; but other than that it'd be a good beta version.

    Fantastic little gadget

Although this is a great gadget for runners who use their ipod, I have to say that I was very disappointed that the lifespan of the battery is only about a year, and I have learned just recently that you need to change the sensor in order to change the battery. Very eco-unfriendly. Very expensive as the replacement sensor is 25$, not available in stores and has to be shipped (plus the taxes are calculated AFTER the shipment has been added to your order). That is the reason I have to give it 3 stars because that was a very big disappointment. Besides that, this gadget is excellent for runners and has been my faithful companion for running in the last 18 months. But now that my sensor is kaput, I have to wait 2 weeks to get my new one and have to manage without.

I found this little gadget very useful for my running. The sensor is so well hidden in the shoe that you will never feel it, and I love the different settings for workouts. I also like the updates throughout the workout. Two things I didn't like were that when the receptor is plugged in, most cases won't adapt for that, and that you need to buy only certain types of shoes so that the sensor will fit. All in all though, great product!

Built-in battery life falls far, far short

My Nike+ Sensor died after less than 20 hours of use, which is 2% of the advertised lifetime, but long enough for the warranty to run out. Seems every Apple product I've bought lately has been more disappointing than the last. I definitely won't buy another, although I may replace it with a Garmin GPS.

I like this product and I think it works well even though I had to replace mine after only 6 months of use. The battery went first then the sensor wore out, and would not hold onto my IPOD Nano. I think the product should be made better for what it costs. I wish the battery had a test light or some way to tell if it was low. Also perhaps it could be made recharchable with a USB port recharger and then would last a very long time.
At first, I thought I would not replace it, and bought the NIKE Sport band which works on the same princple, with the sensor in the shoe. I like the band for tracking my runs, but I miss the motivating messages that the Nike Plus Ipod provides. You can set the Nike Ipod device for a certain time or distance and know where you are in your run to plan warm ups and cool downs
It uploads quickly and keeps the stats on the IPOD. The Nike Sport Band has a poor display and no audio feedback. It to is a pricey for what it is. I will use them both so I can always have a back-up record of my run in case one or the other technology fails. It will also be interesting to see how they compare with acuracy.
I am a new "old" runner, just getting back into it after a long hiatus and this device provides me with the daily motivation I need to stick with it. I am training for the Human Race on the 31st of August. Wish me luck!

    Dead Battery...Replacement Sensors?

    • Written by

Good idea but battery died before logging 50 miles. Not sure why because on average I only used it once a week for running....it was in the case when not in use. Would be a great product if replacement batteries or sensors could be purchased rather than having to buy a new kit.

this is a very simple to use, yet powerful little gadget. It really gave me an incentive to take up runing, the only thing is i whish the same progress that Nike+.com tracks could be done using iTunes or a similar software.
Also note it cannot be used with any other than a iPod nano.

Two seperate sport kits..same identical problem with incorrect tracking...

My frustration with the Nike Plus system comes from one year of trying to make it work...I have worked with TWO separate Nike Plus kits. The first one wasn't tracking the correct mileage. Whether running in a marathon or just training, it NEVER calculated the correct mileage. I had calibrated it multiple times and it never mattered. I was running in a half marathon, and I came upon mile 10...and the Nike Plus system announced in my headset; "You have completed ONE MILE"!!! Um. No. So I returned it to our local running store who graciously exchanged it well beyond the terms of return/exchange. The second Nike Plus system worked well for about a week, and then started having the same exact problems. No matter how many times I calibrate it, it still tracks incorrectly. I do not use the Nike shoes..my arch is too high for them. I do however have a little pod on my shoe that hold the chip in place, so it is not moving around. Now my latest problem with the Nike Plus system, is it continually stops my workout (music and all) until I hit the center button. Well, who wants to have their "training train of thought" interrupted every 3 minutes? I don't recommend purchasing the Nike Plus system unless you are able to purchase some sort of warranty or support system for when it goes awry.

I love this product! It definitly motivates a "non runner" to start and continue. I have had mine for two years, I've ran over 400 miles and have never had battery life problems. I am still using the original sensor and receiver.

Terrible battery life in my sensor

    • Written by

62 of 74 people found this useful

In all other aspects I would rate this 5 stars; I really enjoyed using it and found it very motivating. However, I began using this, with a 1G Nano (1st Gen, I think) in late February of 2009 and the battery was dead by May of 2009. I was not an avid user by any means - in that time frame I only logged 19 walks for a total of 9 hours (Apple claims the sensor should last 1,000 hours) according to my NikePlus.com account. I have since been just listening to my iPod, but have decided to get the sensor replacement to see if I just had a bad sensor only because I really do want to use it. Although I think it's wasteful to replace the entire sensor instead of the battery, I probably wouldn't mind if I only need to replace it every 10 months to a year. So, we'll see what happens with the replacement.

    This is Great!

Overall, this is great, but I would love to see more to it in the future. For individual it gives time, pace, distance, and they have someone famous in sports tell you ran your best time. Way cool! Makes it even more motivating. I wish they would come up with a way to tell you your heart rate and your steps took on this as well. Then it would be perfect. I have to say this worth the buy.

Nike makes good on sports kit

I love the Nike sports it! Motivates a "non runner" like me who is trying to get in shape and be healthier. I had some issues with battery life and the sensor not reading my pacing but the customer support email/ line was awesome and helped me resolve the issues quickly. Contact them if you have problems! They will make you happy and I will keep using this product because of the help they gave me. I think the feedback the sensor gives is very motivating because you can see even small increases in pacing.

I'm not sure why so many people have experienced such low battery life with the sensor. I've had my sensor for nearly a year and a half and run at least 3 miles a day -- sometimes more. I am now replacing my sensor but certainly satisfied with its lifetime.

I love this accessory. Got me out running since I could track my progress, and show my friends online how I was doing. HOWEVER .. after 18 months the unit just stopped working .. I assume the battery went caput. Now I need to buy a completely new unit AND another iPod receiver for CDN$40. Maybe a small price to pay to get fit ... just be aware ...

    cool product despite inaccuracy

I haven't had any battery problems with my + sensor since purchasing it in March (125 miles ago). Accuracy has been my biggest gripe; despite calibrating twice, the distance is always between 1/5 and 1/10 a mile short per mile. I ran a 5K a month ago using my ipod and, thinking I was at 2.7 miles, was astonished to round a corner and see the finish line (lol). But seriously, at $30, this is such a bargain given its cachet that I can live with the inaccuracy, especially if I know the thing errs on the low side. Very cool product that makes running more enjoyable and exciting.
