    Was good but...

    • Written by from Hartsdale

I bought my case when I was given an IPhone 5S for my birthday in January. It worked great for about 1 month, then the connector for the earplugs shorted out and I could only hear my music in one ear. I had a different case for my phone and did not need a connector, so I used that for awhile but decided that I really would like to have the extra battery again. I just received my connector and now am having problems with the case itself.

First, it charges off and on. I will have it fully charged. All 4 lights will be lit. I'll turn it on when the battery on my IPhone is low and it will start to charge and then just stop. Also, it seems to get very hot. If I take the bottom off and then put it back on, it will sometimes start charging again. When it works, it is great but when it does not, extremely frustrating. The biggest problem being also, you don't know when it will work and when it will not. Lately, it has been not working more than working.

I really wanted to like this, but after all of these problems, I am very, very disappointed, especially since I paid out a good chunk of money for it. Save your money, and look for something else.

reliable, but let down by poor quality finish

    • Written by from KIPPAX

Technically, this is a great product; it delivers what it promises and is a great way to charge your device on the go (especially if you can't leave it at your desk to charge while out and about). The finish is what lets this product down; the surface scratches very easily (much more easily than the iPhone itself, so much for a 'protective' case) and the effect is magnified greatly by the fact that the undercoat is bright silver showing every scratch in stark contrast to the dark grey graphite final coat.

So now I only ever use the case when charging on the go is needed - and after a charge is complete, at the first opportunity, I swap it out for something a little more durable and less combat worn.

Serves a purpose but not something you'd leave on the iPhone all the time.

    Charging Problem

    • Written by from Monterey

After about 6 months, when charging off the Mophie, the phone and case gets very hot. I have had a Mophie on my iPhone 4s and did not have this problem.
Will not replace with another because of this.

    best option, but not great

    • Written by from San Francisco

    pros:
    +Looks good
    +Feels good
    +Not too heavy
    +It works

    cons:
—The case adds bulk to the bottom of the phone, which is fine, but means use of the included "pass-through" adapter is necessary for most headphones and definitely for the Square credit card reader dongle. This feels awkward and is just one more "thing" to own and keep track of
—Both because of the bulk at the bottom of the case and because of the "micro" port of the case, the included "micro USB cable" is necessary for charging. This means any lighting-to-USB cords, charging stands, or audio systems that are compatible with iPhone 5 are no longer unusable
—I find it very difficult, nigh impossible, to separate the case to expose the bottom of the iPhone, in order to access the phone's lighting port for said accessories. The snug fit is important to ensure the connection between the case's battery pack and the phone, but in this instance it's too much of a good thing.
—Once I finally do separate the case into its two parts, it's then very difficult to get the phone out of the case. Mophie expects users to keep their phones in the cases at all times, but it's short sighted given the limitations.

In short: Not a very thoughtful design, Mophie. I'm disappointed but haven't come across a better solution to extend battery life.

I'd like to think that Apple could do better with the native iPhone battery so users wouldn't need to seek out third-party solutions, which end up being less than perfect.

Why aren't the phones just built this way??

    • Written by from Wavell heights

My partner bought this for me because I'm always running out of battery at annoying moments. It works. Super excited. The other perfect 5 I would give is on behalf of the money I'll save getting my screen replaced. I was always dropping my phone and smashing it (the worst aspect of iPhones for sure) and this case is the perfect mix of sturdy and streamline. I had avoided sturdy cases until now because they don't fit comfortably in my pockets. Mophie solved the problem. Thanks for a truly excellent product.

    Great product...but

    • Written by from newport

This is a great idea and a cool product that does work. Sure it has a few flaws, but when you need more battery life, this product provides it for you. An even better idea: improve the 5's battery. Probably the most disappointing part of the 5 and something which the diehard, hardcore Apple fans seem to overlook, is that when you're using the 5 flat out, it just can't go the distance because of its battery. Indeed, for purely practical reasons, I had to change to another product just so I could conduct business. Even with the juice pack, sadly, it still doesn't quite compete with the standard battery life of its competitor. If Apply could fix just this one thing in the factory and design studio, you'd have me back. Actually, if this wasn't an issue to begin with, I wouldn't have moved.
    Holding my breath.

    Ok

    • Written by from Edinburgh

The good- it extends my battery life probably double. The bad is that you need a little adaptor to use the headphones. Mine went faulty, I emailed them on their contact page and heard nothing.
Can't seem to auto wifi sync when you switch over to the battery, but maybe that's finger trouble but it shouldn't be that complicated. Also won't sync to my computer unless I don't do it through the battery. A tad heavy, but if you need extra juice worth considering.

Quite good but one big flaw and a smaller one so 2 problems to think about!

    • Written by from WYNDHAM

Its light and slim (for a battery pack) and packs just enough charge to keep you going for another 50-70% of the time so it's great BUT; no sync through cable connection and it's not a lighning connection!! This is a major drawback even though in the documentation they say "Of coarse it syncs, wirelessly over your wifi network". Two major problems with this, we are not always on a wifi network particularly if you travel with a laptop you sync to and how do we transfer video we have taken on the phone!!!!!! The case is pretty hard to take off (thats good) so it's a pain to transfer movies and sync while traveling or away from wifi. Also why do I have to cary another cable now, make it a lightning connector and be done with it. Bring cable sync and lightning connector and it will be perfect.

    Issues

    • Written by from San Antonio

I've had 4 mophie's total. Two for the 4s and now my second 5s. Each mophie has had
it's own set of issues. The 4s design flaw was the on off switch, poor location so that every time
you dropped the phone the corner was vulnerable. The 5s has two major issues, one is that it
needs to have equal distance between where you connect it. The first one broke after 5 months
because the whole bottom cover separated from the innards. Another design flaw is the stupid
extension jack which is prone to bending and then gets a short in it. I've had my new case for
3 weeks now and can't listen to the headphones with the case on because of this design flaw.
You can't use it without the extension because it's not long enough. I would not recommend this case.

Great at first, then not so much.

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I got this in Dec 2013, and worked great for 1 month, and each month to today (March 2014) it got worse (charged less). Now (like one other reviewer posted) it charges 9-10% in just a minute or two then dies (and gets really hot). I got the black one, and never had paint issues (because perhaps it's not painted [the whole plastic is black]), but I did drop it and the side, being plastic, chips away.

Amazing, except that I don't use it at all because....

    • Written by from San Antonio

Mophie really shot themselves in the foot this time, or perhaps it was Apple who inadvertently did so.

I was always interested in using the Mophie phone charger cases (both my parents have had one for iPhone 4 and they recently upgraded to iPhone 5s) but after the change from the original iPhone port to the new "Mophie port" strictly on the iPhone 5 means I would have to buy another car charger specifically for my Mophie and another wall connector, and another connector cable for my computer (one would obviously be included with the Mophie, hopefully, but who knows). Looks like the greed has got to Mophie and/or Apple. If they would have just used the Lightning port I would never take my Mophie case off. It probably has to do with Apple being a rumpus about it's 'Lightning drive anyways.' Sad to say I'll be sticking with my 9.99 Incipio case for the time being.

BTW, Happy 30 Year Anniversary Apple

I haven't had an issue with my Mophie case, it is pretty sturdy and gives me around an extra 80% battery life which is nice, but it scratches up the metal on my iPhone 5 which really annoys me.

    Decent charging case that protects

    • Written by from Woodland Hills

Well coming from a 4s whose battery life was roughly 2 hours i craved all day battery life and bought this case for my 5s. The gray looked good on the black model so i went for it. The speakers are slightly louder than stock, the battery life is on par with advertised. Just wish it came with a screen protector for 80$. Youll notice the bulk if your coming from a nude 5 but if your coming from a 4 or 4s its not that bad. The connector is more universal had several other (i think micro usbs?) laying around. Just seems like the actual port on the phone case for this connector wont last the products lifetime. The audio in/out jack (includes an extender) is somewhat trouble but not everything is perfect i can cope. Lastly the button for the battery life of the case must be distincly pressed or it wont bring up the leds. Minor problems but I can deal for 180% battery life (including the phones life)

    Aesthetically Pleasing But Flawed

    • Written by from Nr Redditch

The case feels great and is pleasing to the eye, it fits well in the hand and doesn't add a great amount of bulk.

    BUT...

The case significantly interferes with my signal. I use the 2G band (strongest band in my area) and get it throughout my house NORMALLY. With the addition of this case it reduced my bars from full to 2 and where I would normally get 2 or 3 bars, the signal was gone completely.

I really wanted the case and thought it was just a fault, so I got it returned and replaced but alas it came up with the same problem.

Great functions and design just flawed even thought it states in the manual "doesn't effect signal".

    Terrible product

    • Written by from COLORADO SPRINGS

The juice pack for the iPhone 5 sufferers some of the same problems as the 4 and 4s. I am working on my 2nd case and I can see the problems starting again and the problem is this.
Once you turn the switch on for the battery pack to start charging your phone the pack will continue to cycle on and off and doesn't stop. you can play with the switch or plug it back in to the charger cable and it will stop for a few minutes then it happens again. eventually nothing will work and the pack will continually cycle through the on/off. at $100 a pop and only lasting 6-12 months its a hard pill to swallow

    Bad design! Second review attempt..

    • Written by from Hoersholm

I've been the happy owner of Juicepack for both my iPhone 4 & 4s, so when I received my new iPhone 5s, the first thing to do was to pick up a Mophie Juice pack for this phone too.
When I came back from the Apple Retails store, I tried to connect it to my Macbook Air. The phone started charging, but no iTunes! I then tried to connect it to my work laptop - same result.
I immediately raised a case with Mophie support to report the faulty device. To my big surprise, I got an email back stating that this behaviour, was by DESIGN!! You're meant only to sync via wireless was the suggestion...
Everybody using a PC in the professional world, know that there's no way that you can connect you your phone with VPN up etc.

So Mophie, sorry to say this, but I returned the box. Very disappointed.
Get your design right and connect the last two cords to the micro USB so we can use this in the pro world as well!

    Mophie happy

    • Written by from Plainfield

I have used the extra battery several times and it has worked well. i leave the mophie switch in the off position until the iphone battery is low, then i switch the mophie on and it charges the iphone battery. Then i shut off the mophie switch. This can be done several times to extend the iphone battery. When the mophie is charging the iphone, the unit gets very warm. I wish the mophie charge port matched the iphone lightning port instead of its mini usb as it requires travelling with 2 cables. however, i charge the mophie while the iphone is encased and this way i charge the mophie and the iphone.

    Does what it says

    • Written by from SALE

I have had my morphia case for just a couple of weeks and it has operated fine..... I did what they suggested and switched to the case when my battery indicator reached 20% and my phone was then fully charged so the 80% additional capacity claimed seems true.

The only fiddly issue, as reported elsewhere, is that a small extender may be needed in order to use the headphones socket. This is supplied.

I also found it a little scary when I first used the case as I couldn't see exactly how to separate the bottom part of the case and this requires a fair amount of force. However I persevered and managed to separate them and insert my phone ok - to some extent it is reassuring that the pieces fit together so tightly.

Please note also that with the case on you cannot connect your phone using the apple USB lead. The supplied Micro-USB is fine but only charges and does not sync. Thus to sync with the Morphie case you will need to sync via WiFi. Not a problem in my case but just something to be aware of.

This product is helpful and useful, also reliable but the finish came off quickly so if you want a pretty case don't go for this one also tempermental in inclement weather.

Happy but not ecstatic with purchase.
