    LifeSaver

    • Written by from New York

I live in NYC so I walk around a lot and take the trains. I am not near a charger for the majority of the day and using LTE runs through my battery. I have had the case for over a year and it works fine. Mophie even sent me a replacement when the case chipped. I have dropped the case several times and it still works fine. I did drop the phone while it was on the charger and bent the charger so I had to get a new chord. Thats the only time it didn't work well. If you bend the pin that plugs into the case, it will cause the phone to act weird.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is the connector chord for the earphones. They short fairly fast, been through a couple. When they short while you are using them they cause your phone to do all sorts of weird things like, shut off, play music, end your call, etc. Otherwise, the case has done me well.

    things you need to know

    • Written by from Oxford

fundamentally it does what it's supposed to however:

The super slippery Teflon like surface means it's difficult to hold. I haven't dropped my I-phones in 4 years but dropped this twice within a week of getting it. At least it protected the phone so works as a protective case.

As well as this it doesn't have a standard Apple connector which means you can't use your apple charger or any device designed for the phone without removing the base.

These are two glaringly obvious and significant design faults. If I had realised this I wouldn't have bought it.

    Good but.....

    • Written by from New York

It works and we've had Mophies for several years but quality is an issue, smooth finish (slippery) is as well. Adapter for the ear buds ceased functioning after 4 months: it can't take the rigors of movement. We've always had one issue or another with our cases and with the adapter and the excessively smooth finish of the case, my wife and I have both cracked our glass because it slid effortlessly off of our leg, out of her purse, a jacket pocket, out of our hands, etc. Yep, we're both Type A business people but with our previous cases for our 4s that were more non-skid, we never had an issue. So, live and learn, we'll look for a better solution so we don't break the bank. Maybe I overlooked the non-skid case somewhere and will try again. I was able to buy another adapter online - better quality.

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from Woodbridge

My Mophie case has not worked right after about a month. It started not charging my phone. Shutting on and off over and over. Now it won't take a charge. Basically it is now just an expensive, over priced protector. I will not waste money on buying a new one.

Good when you need a charge but it is not durable

    • Written by from Pound Ridge

I am very careful and gentle on my products and this only worked for about a year, after a year...
the bottom no longer stays attached due to repeated removal for connection to lightning connector, the headphone adapter no longer works, one channel cuts on and off. Attempts to get parts from mophie haven't been successful as it's out of warranty? So it is basally a disposable product. They did offer me a 10% discount on something new if I was interested. I'm not.

    mophie audio connection

    • Written by from Horsham

Happy with the extra battery life and protective case. BUT audio and charging connections fidly. The audio adaptor has now gone wrong after 5 months and having trouble sourcing a spare. To use the standard adaptor have to undo the bottom connection and run unit without the additional battery. Defeats the purpose?

Will write to Mophie and see what they say about a replacement audio connector. Not holding breath.

    Virtually No Protection

    • Written by from Scarsdale

I bought the Moohie Juice pack mainly for the battery, but did expect it to provide at least some protection for the phone. However, when I dropped it on the floor by accident from waist level, the glass shattered like ther was no case at all. Now I have to pay $150 to replace the glass. There are other battery cases that I am sure offer more protection.

Cannot charge Mophie battery in the car

    • Written by from East Meadow

The mophie does not work with car adapters by design according to their Customer Support. You MUST use a adapter connected to 110 volts, in other words a wall outlet, in order for the mophie battery to charge. I found this out the hard way when I purchased the Mophie because I was going to Europe. Did a lot of driving and walking. When I wanted to switch over to the mophie, it was dead. The other problem is when you use the mophie cable to charge the IPhone battery in your car, and only the IPhone battery, the car does not recognize the IPhone via the USB adapter. You cannot play any of your music via the cable. Again, confirmed by mophie customer support. Badly designed product and even worst, not disclosed on the website

    Great when it works

    • Written by from Jersey Shore

It worked wonderfully for about 6 months. Now it doesn't charge the iPhone. It shows four lights, and when the wall charger is plugged in, the phone takes a charge, so I know the connector is working. But off charger, it won't charge the phone.

Great Product But Recent Quality is Suffering

    • Written by from Henderson

I have owned many Mophie cases, and I am sold on the idea. They do not add too much bulk and also look sharp. I have noticed that in the past two years, since the 5 and 5s/5c, the quality though has gone down. I have noticed that the metal insert for charging tends to get bent and thus you can no longer connect to the charger. Also i have noticed that the bottom piece sometimes gets bent as well, and it will not fit into the main part of the charger. Others have complained about reduced quality with the charger cord itself. Evidently, they switched suppliers and the products or just charger assembly are not made overseas. in my opinion, the quality of the product has suffered. Shame, because i really like the product!

    Was good but...

    • Written by from Hartsdale

I bought my case when I was given an IPhone 5S for my birthday in January. It worked great for about 1 month, then the connector for the earplugs shorted out and I could only hear my music in one ear. I had a different case for my phone and did not need a connector, so I used that for awhile but decided that I really would like to have the extra battery again. I just received my connector and now am having problems with the case itself.

First, it charges off and on. I will have it fully charged. All 4 lights will be lit. I'll turn it on when the battery on my IPhone is low and it will start to charge and then just stop. Also, it seems to get very hot. If I take the bottom off and then put it back on, it will sometimes start charging again. When it works, it is great but when it does not, extremely frustrating. The biggest problem being also, you don't know when it will work and when it will not. Lately, it has been not working more than working.

I really wanted to like this, but after all of these problems, I am very, very disappointed, especially since I paid out a good chunk of money for it. Save your money, and look for something else.

reliable, but let down by poor quality finish

    • Written by from KIPPAX

Technically, this is a great product; it delivers what it promises and is a great way to charge your device on the go (especially if you can't leave it at your desk to charge while out and about). The finish is what lets this product down; the surface scratches very easily (much more easily than the iPhone itself, so much for a 'protective' case) and the effect is magnified greatly by the fact that the undercoat is bright silver showing every scratch in stark contrast to the dark grey graphite final coat.

So now I only ever use the case when charging on the go is needed - and after a charge is complete, at the first opportunity, I swap it out for something a little more durable and less combat worn.

Serves a purpose but not something you'd leave on the iPhone all the time.

    Charging Problem

    • Written by from Monterey

After about 6 months, when charging off the Mophie, the phone and case gets very hot. I have had a Mophie on my iPhone 4s and did not have this problem.
Will not replace with another because of this.

    best option, but not great

    • Written by from San Francisco

    pros:
    +Looks good
    +Feels good
    +Not too heavy
    +It works

    cons:
—The case adds bulk to the bottom of the phone, which is fine, but means use of the included "pass-through" adapter is necessary for most headphones and definitely for the Square credit card reader dongle. This feels awkward and is just one more "thing" to own and keep track of
—Both because of the bulk at the bottom of the case and because of the "micro" port of the case, the included "micro USB cable" is necessary for charging. This means any lighting-to-USB cords, charging stands, or audio systems that are compatible with iPhone 5 are no longer unusable
—I find it very difficult, nigh impossible, to separate the case to expose the bottom of the iPhone, in order to access the phone's lighting port for said accessories. The snug fit is important to ensure the connection between the case's battery pack and the phone, but in this instance it's too much of a good thing.
—Once I finally do separate the case into its two parts, it's then very difficult to get the phone out of the case. Mophie expects users to keep their phones in the cases at all times, but it's short sighted given the limitations.

In short: Not a very thoughtful design, Mophie. I'm disappointed but haven't come across a better solution to extend battery life.

I'd like to think that Apple could do better with the native iPhone battery so users wouldn't need to seek out third-party solutions, which end up being less than perfect.

Why aren't the phones just built this way??

    • Written by from Wavell heights

My partner bought this for me because I'm always running out of battery at annoying moments. It works. Super excited. The other perfect 5 I would give is on behalf of the money I'll save getting my screen replaced. I was always dropping my phone and smashing it (the worst aspect of iPhones for sure) and this case is the perfect mix of sturdy and streamline. I had avoided sturdy cases until now because they don't fit comfortably in my pockets. Mophie solved the problem. Thanks for a truly excellent product.

    Great product...but

    • Written by from newport

This is a great idea and a cool product that does work. Sure it has a few flaws, but when you need more battery life, this product provides it for you. An even better idea: improve the 5's battery. Probably the most disappointing part of the 5 and something which the diehard, hardcore Apple fans seem to overlook, is that when you're using the 5 flat out, it just can't go the distance because of its battery. Indeed, for purely practical reasons, I had to change to another product just so I could conduct business. Even with the juice pack, sadly, it still doesn't quite compete with the standard battery life of its competitor. If Apply could fix just this one thing in the factory and design studio, you'd have me back. Actually, if this wasn't an issue to begin with, I wouldn't have moved.
    Holding my breath.

    Ok

    • Written by from Edinburgh

The good- it extends my battery life probably double. The bad is that you need a little adaptor to use the headphones. Mine went faulty, I emailed them on their contact page and heard nothing.
Can't seem to auto wifi sync when you switch over to the battery, but maybe that's finger trouble but it shouldn't be that complicated. Also won't sync to my computer unless I don't do it through the battery. A tad heavy, but if you need extra juice worth considering.

Quite good but one big flaw and a smaller one so 2 problems to think about!

    • Written by from WYNDHAM

Its light and slim (for a battery pack) and packs just enough charge to keep you going for another 50-70% of the time so it's great BUT; no sync through cable connection and it's not a lighning connection!! This is a major drawback even though in the documentation they say "Of coarse it syncs, wirelessly over your wifi network". Two major problems with this, we are not always on a wifi network particularly if you travel with a laptop you sync to and how do we transfer video we have taken on the phone!!!!!! The case is pretty hard to take off (thats good) so it's a pain to transfer movies and sync while traveling or away from wifi. Also why do I have to cary another cable now, make it a lightning connector and be done with it. Bring cable sync and lightning connector and it will be perfect.

    Issues

    • Written by from San Antonio

I've had 4 mophie's total. Two for the 4s and now my second 5s. Each mophie has had
it's own set of issues. The 4s design flaw was the on off switch, poor location so that every time
you dropped the phone the corner was vulnerable. The 5s has two major issues, one is that it
needs to have equal distance between where you connect it. The first one broke after 5 months
because the whole bottom cover separated from the innards. Another design flaw is the stupid
extension jack which is prone to bending and then gets a short in it. I've had my new case for
3 weeks now and can't listen to the headphones with the case on because of this design flaw.
You can't use it without the extension because it's not long enough. I would not recommend this case.

Great at first, then not so much.

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I got this in Dec 2013, and worked great for 1 month, and each month to today (March 2014) it got worse (charged less). Now (like one other reviewer posted) it charges 9-10% in just a minute or two then dies (and gets really hot). I got the black one, and never had paint issues (because perhaps it's not painted [the whole plastic is black]), but I did drop it and the side, being plastic, chips away.
