    It's not bad

    • Written by from 成都

The sound is outstanding comparing to other $199 model. My last speaker was a JPL Pulse, which could be connected to my iPhone through bluetooth, didn't provide such good sound, but the bluetooth feature was really convenient. This Z2 can only play music from the Apple devices thru wifi. It also seems that it can only work when plugged in. These two facts make this Z2 speaker not quite so portable. I wish I could say more good things about it other than its amazing sound, but I just bought it and I hope that there's something better about it to discover.

    Flawed Wonder

    • Written by from New York

The sound from this inexpensive unit is awesome. I recently used it to provide background music for two rooms containing 150 people. No sweat. Volume to spare. Great sound.

Now for the bad part: the WiFi. For some reason B&W has chosen to only allow airplay thru a home WiFi router. You can't just play directly from your iPhone to the unit as you can, for instance, with a Bose unit. I think B&W was trying to emulate Sonos or something. It was not a good decision. The result for me is that even at home, where I have good WiFi, even on the same floor, the sound cuts in and out. So I connect to it with an AUX cable. Not what I had in mind.

There is an app you use to set up the WiFi. (Proof that your iPhone could connect directly to the unit over WiFi.) That app is just for setup; it can't be used to control anything (like volume). Since there is no volume control on the unit itself, if you lose the little remote you are SOL.

Wish I could write a more positive review because the sound is indeed awesome.

    Clarity is immaculate..

Before I give my review... to the person who struggled to setup the airplay.. may I suggest reading the instructions step by step, or get someone else to do it if you are not tech savvy. I tried to rush through without reading the instructions and stuffed it up.. I went back to the start and did it step by step and it worked first go..
    Now the review.
I originally tested he speaker in the shop and wasn't that impressed, due to all the background noise of the store I think. The Z2 appeared to lack any real drive. I only went back and purchased it after reading all the online reviews. I was looking for something to replace my old and now dead, but amazing JBL Radial.
Once setup, I put on a few of my favorite songs and was so far impressed, but not overly so. It wasn't however until I put on Adele's turning tables that the clarity hit me... I then went on search for all my favorite piano and acoustic guitar tracks.. the clarity on this thing is immaculate. and you can easily be mistaken for thinking a pianist is in your room. even my wife, who plays the piano said the same. (we have a piano in our house)
I then went left of field and tried a few Metallica tracks and even found the bass to be rich for this size of speaker. The deciding song that bought it all home was smashing pumpkins mayonnaise. This is a song that starts out really soft, but then kicks into a well distorted crescendo that is usually washed out in the bass section by most stereos.. though the B&W Z2 washed out nothing..
if you are umming and arring about what dock to buy... then um and ar no more. if you appreciate clarity of your music over simple partying pumping volume and bass.. then look no further.. buy the Z2.

    Beautiful piece

Only if they did MM-1 with Airplay... otherwise z2 is superb piece of speakers from B&W. The design is beautiful and sleek, blends in well. As I haven't tested the sound in store so was really excited when played my lossless through them... OMG it was beautiful, Closed my eyes and sat right in front of it and it feels like I was in Royal Albert Hall listening to LSO playing Bach. Filled the room beautifully, obvious note is that my living room is not huge so it definitely fills it well. Trying out some different genres like RnB, Rock, etc I was very positively surprised by the Bass from such a tiny package! The bass is very very decent. I don't know if it is my settings, but as I wanted to listen through the speakers after 2200 (have don't disturb thy neighbour policy) I couldn't get the sound down enough. Thus I don't really understand the reviews saying it does not perform well at higher volumes... and those saying the sound is not loud enough. At the price less than £200 definitely a buy!
On setting up the AIrplay, well super easy! Download the app follow the steps and you're fine!! If you skip ahead or think you know what your doing and haven't followed the steps, it might seem much trickier than it actually is. In Overall beautiful piece of kit and amazing sound. Superb music player while preparing food and stuff.

The sound of the dock is fine. But I've attempted to set airplay up using my Mac, my iPhone, and my iPad, each time receiving the same error message. I phoned their customer service line, and all of their reps were busy assisting other callers (who were most likely also having problems with setup). Rather than being placed on hold, I was disconnected. Will be returning immediately.

Excellent sound in a compact package

    • Written by from Jersey City

The sound on this thing is amazing. It's a small package that really delivers. The airplay set-up is really easy. Once you've paired it with your wifi it works perfectly across all of your apple products. Would highly recommend this to any one looking for a compact speaker system with some really great sound
