    incompatible cable with powerbook

    • Written by from Makawao

This cable is recommended for connecting an Epson projector with a vga port to a power book, in What Cable Do You Need on the Store website. The computer doesn't recognize it nor does the projector. After 60 plus dollars, how many cables do I need in order to connect various computers, Ipads to my projector which is two years old? And is it really that difficult to find the correct one?

    For what it is . . . . .

    • Written by from Teton

The device works to a degree. It does not recognize HDCP and thus is basically useless. I downloaded a video from iTunes for my iPad. When I connected to my vga projector I kept getting a HDCP error and it would not play. Using it in the classroom with my iPad, it works with most of my appications and does a fair job.

I would not recommend it for most users. There are less expensive ways to go that work much better.

    The search is over

We have a VGA projector in our boardroom with no way to connect the ipads which come in and out of meetings. This is certainly going to assist us.

    Does what i want

i have it connected to my ATV 3 through my Pioneer amp and out to a 720P VGA projector. I've had no problems at all and it certainly simplifies things by not having to have yet another power source!

    I LOVE this product!

    • Written by from Aptos

I bought the Kanex to hook my Apple TV into an older plasma with a VGA input. The product works flawlessly. It was totally simple to connect, and the image quality on my TV was WAY better than I expected. It saved me from having to buy an new TV!

Signal gets cut off too frequently

    • Written by from Woodbridge

Im using this adapter on my son's wii u to connect to a projector. The signal cuts off too frequently, I'm thinking its because its not powered thus not being amplified?? I will be getting another adapter made by another manufacturer that is powered to see if that will solve the problem. So I have to say this product is not doing what I want it to do properly and is a financial loss for me. But during the times it work, I was grateful.

Brings Apple TV to the pre-HDMI generation

    • Written by from London

I bought one of these with a 3rd generation Apple TV. I needed the adapter because we have a Philips early flat screen TV, which has no HDMI connections, but does have high-res capacity and a VGA input. This clever little adapter sorted it out perfectly (tho I needed an additional lead for the audio). I am very pleased with the results: everything the 3rd-gen Apple TV can do, for a pre-HDMI TV! Bye bye video store and dirty rental DVDs!

    Great product!

    • Written by from Helsinki

This product converts HDMI to VGA and supports 1080p resolution and HDCP and you can use it even with PC, PS3 or BluRay. It decrypts HDCP, so now you can even make copies of your iTunes movies or BluRay movies with VGA crabber and share them with your friends for free.

    Thank you Apple!

The only downside of the product is that it takes its power from the HDMI pin18 (5VDC) that is not meant to power external devices, because it (by standard) can only provide 50mA current. I would think that this kind of conversion and decryption requires more power. I think this the reason why this product doesn't work with all devices that comply with the standard and only provide 50mA current.

    Doesn't work.

Worked for an hour and then stopped. I haven't been able to get it going again since. It's going back tomorrow (along with the Apple TV, which is useless without it).

    Works very well.

I set this up in my wife's classroom so she can use her iPad wirelessly with the VGA projector. Works beautifully, no external AC needed, simple setup.

    Rubbish

    • Written by from Warragul

Do not purchase this overpriced ebay rip, I'd expect this kind of quality if it cost $10 but it's $79. The VGA cable barely fits, it smells like it came out of a greenwaste bin. Looks cheap, doesn't fill the screen properly. Terrible!

Exactly what I was looking for!

    • Written by from Howell

I bought this connector so I could airplay the Ipad 3 in my classroom in conjunction with the SMARTboard without being tethered to the computer. It works perfectly. At first I was disappointed because I was getting video but no audio. Once I plugged in speakers to the audio jack everything worked seamlessly! It's exactly what I was looking for and works perfectly with AppleTv/Ipad 3/Smartboard.

    Connection cuts out

    • Written by from Calgary

I had a lot of hope for this adapter to use in my classroom. The connection to the VGA cable cuts out which causes a lot of frustration. We have tried various VGA cables with no luck. It has to be placed in very tight and held perfectly still to remain working. The slightest movement of the cable and it cuts out. I will be looking for an alternative.

    Cuts out intermitently

    • Written by from Cardston

I hooked mine up to Apple TV in my classroom. The Apple TV worked flawlessly at home with just hdmi, but when I hooked it up through the adapter to my vga cable, it cuts out for about 2 seconds every minute or so. My projector gives a lost connection error while it cuts out. Hoping it is just a problem with too long of a cord (50 feet) like one of the other reviews said and I can fix it by hooking it up closer to the projector, but I'm dissapointed that I have to move my classroom around now to make this adapter work.

Great wireless but screen projection too small

    • Written by from Clarksville

I work at a high school and was so excited to get this but when I tested it out, the screen that was projected was so small that I'm sure students in the back would have a very difficult time reading text. If I flipped the iPad portrait, then forget it...it was ridiculously thin. If I am tethered with an apple VGA cable, the projection is so much larger. I wonder why? Not sure if I am going to keep it. Anyone else have this problem?

***It Works Great With Apple Tv Too!

    • Written by from Madison

I got this right when it can out to hookup my Apple Tv to my older projector. It just works great with monitors and TV's with VGA ports where there is no HDMI port.

Using with my old home theatre projector

    • Written by from KITCHENER

At first I was a bit annoyed because when I had it hooked up with my Apple Tv... the Apple Tv was video flashing on and off at the projector. I found out later it was because I was using too long of a VGA cable (50ft). Then I switch to a shorter cable (25ft) and the silly problem went away. Sorry it has been a great solution for not having a HDMI ready projector. I just use the optical out on the Apple Tv so I don't know how well the Audio Support works.

    Great for teachers

    • Written by from Byron

Purchased the adapter to connect an Apple TV to a VGA projector. I teach at the high school level and having to be tethered to a computer to show videos, presentations or photos was not practical. The setup was simple and to the point. Connected the Apple TV and VGA cable to the Kanex adapter. I have my Apple TV connected to a wifi network so I can use airplay on my iPad. The added feature of audio out is a great benefit when showing videos from my iPad. Picture quality is definitely not HD but it gets the job done. This is a great, small, lightweight product for connecting devices to a VGA.
