    Terrific Idea but...

I purchased this product to kiss batteries goodbye and help the environment.

Unfortunately, the battery insert didn't fit my apple wireless keyboard well enough to make contact. That's right, this product from Switzerland has such serious quality control problems that yours may not work at all.

Additionally, the product has a strong chemical smell when removed from the box. This comes from the sparkly aluminum surface intended to match Apple's. But Apple's has no smell at all while this exudes a chemical-like stench. I expect it to vanish once the product airs for a week or so, but since my Magic Bar was defective and had to be returned I may never know.

I would also like to know where and how to get a hold of more recharge inserts. And where is the Magic Bar for trackpads? There's too little info on this product.

A great concept that became a smelly clunker. Mobee, get me a hassle-free replacement now please.

    Doesn't work well

I had a similar problem to others that have bought this device. I thought it was going to be a great addition to my workspace, but the battery attachment does NOT fit well in my keyboard or magic trackpad and it loses contact or doesn't make contact at all. Save yourself the money and just buy rechargeable batteries separately.

    Good product but not perfect

This is a really good and functional product and I was really excited to be able to drop using batteries altogether with my wireless keyboard and trackpad. It really does live up to what it promises and is a good product.
Unfortunately this product only comes with one chargeable battery. Most people I would asume, use both a keyboard and a mouse/trackpad. I would definitely buy an extra battery if there was such a product!
Now I have the Mobee battery in my keyboard and my trackpad runs on aa-batteries. Buying another whole Magic Bar set just to get another battery pack doesn't seem like a viable option.

The Mobee Magic Bar Charger is awesome and looks cool. It’s aluminum and comes packaged with a cylindrical battery pack that replaces the two AA batteries (in either your Apple Wireless Keyboard or Magic Track Pad) and a USB cable that connects the Magic Charging Bar to a USB port on your iMac, Mac mini or docked MBP as a power source. Initial charging of the battery pack will take about 6 hours. I ordered two (2) extra battery packs. One for my Magic Track Pad and the other as a spare for on-the-fly replacement when the battery pack in either the keyboard or track pad is drained.

If you only want to use the Mobee Magic Charging Bar to keep your Wireless Keyboard charged you don’t need an extra battery pack as you can re-charge and still use your wireless keyboard at the same time. The same applies if you only want to use the Magic Bar Charger for your Magic Track Pad. To replace the AA batteries in both the Wireless Keyboard and the Magic Track Pad you will have to order at least one (1) extra battery pack.

By my observations the Wireless Keyboard drains the battery pack at a faster clip than the Track Pad lasting about two (2) weeks on a full charge. Your experience may be more or less depending upon use. Mobee tech support told me the average life span of a battery pack is 3 to 4 years.

I’ve had none of the problems experienced by NC from New York or RC from Beverly Hills. I even charge a battery pack in the Magic Bar Charger w/o it being inserted into my keyboard or track pad.

So...how often do you purchase batteries for your Apple Wireless Keyboard and/or Magic Track Pad? Do the math and decide if the Mobee Magic Bar Charger is a cost-effective investment.

    Note:
For a modest investment charging with the Mobee Magic Bar can be accomplished without powering on your iMac, Mac mini or docked MBP by ordering the Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter.

This is a great device for stopping the need to repeaedly replace the batteries. If you have a wireless keyboard and a wireless trackpad, Mobee do make a spare battery pack, which can easily be found with a search of the internet.

Battery pack not compatible with wireless keyboard (3 AA batteries)

    • Written by from GREVE

23 of 29 people found this useful

The design, look and feel is great and delivers exactly what is says in the description. The battery pack however doesn't fit with my wireless keyboard (aluminium with 3 batteries) so now I can only use it for my trackpad. Since it is designed to fit both keyboard and trackpad it would be a good idea to sell (or include) additional battery packs to allow recharging of both. I'd give 5 stars if a battery pack fitting the 3 AA battery keyboard was available.

Solid Product - Packaging is misleading

Solid product, charges fast and looks nice. The packaging is very misleading. The package states "THE MAGIC BAR - Wireless charger for the Apple Wireless Keyboard AND Magic Trackpad", however it only has one battery replacement unit for EITHER a Keyboard OR a Trackpad.....NOT BOTH. The graphics on the package show the Magic Bar with BOTH the keyboard and the trackpad......very misleading. If you actually want to use both the keyboard and the trackpad with the Magic Bar, you need to purchase an additional battery replacement unit from their web site at $29.90. The Apple store did not carry the additional battery replacement units. The package says "Keyboard AND Trackpad" would have been great to have two (2) battery replacement units in it.

Also, the unit comes with no printed instructions or information on where to get instructions.

    Works perfectly for me

I use my wireless keyboard all day 5 days a week. This product has worked perfectly for me. Keyboard is always fully charged. Just insert it back into the bar when you are not using it, or leave it in the bar and use it when you don't mind being "wired".

Simple to use, trivial to install, and no more using rechargeable batteries. We will have to wait and see how many cycles these batteries go through, however! As another review mentioned, you need an additional battery ($30) if you also want to use the charging bar with a trackpad. The Apple store does not care the additional batteries, you must order them directly from Mobee.

BTW, there is an excellent battery widget (Mighty Monitor) on dashboard that can display the wireless battery charges. It is nice to always see my keyboard fully charged. As soon as I can get a spare battery, it is going in my trackpad!

    Great Idea, only fair execution

Unlike other reviewers, I found the battery fit fine. But it took some experimentation (and requires ongoing care) to "dock" it .... putting it in "all the way" results in no charging. It has to be a couple of cm off to get it to charge.

Also it never seems to get to full charge, since it's always blinking green--never solid (but perhaps that's because no one else in the family but me can find the proper spot to dock it).

I've thought of trying to retrofit a rubber washer to allow for easy docking; but at this price level I'd expected it to "just work".

Nice product, but a bit pricey for the non pro user.

I received the Magic bar as a gift. I own a wireless keyboard, and a magic trackpad. I had to go and buy another battery as the until only ships with one. So, you're looking at $60 for this unit, plus another $30 for the extra battery.

For a pro user, I can see the benefit of having the Magic Bar there to just dock your trackpad or keyboard each night to make sure that it's fresh for the next day. However, for a home user I think $90 is a lot to spend just to avoid the few seconds of hassle that it takes to replace rechargeable batteries.

For that money you could get a batter charger that also reconditions rechargeables to make sure that you get the maximum life out of them.

I'm no stranger to Apple sticker shock, but in this case I'd have to say that the product is really over priced for the benefit it brings you. $15-$20 cheaper, and it would have been something I would have considered buying for myself.

Was this useful? Nice product, but a bit pricey for the non pro user.

SS from Phoenix obviously failed to check the manufacturers website as all complaints in his/her review are clearly explained. Also, Mobee doesn't include a printed manual as they are a "Green" company and therefore encourage customers to download a manual if needed (this is also explained on their website). I suggest reading the review by AJ from Lenexa as it is on target. Oh...I recommend the product.

A friend gave this to me as a gift and I love it. I am sure that I would have burned through 40 or so batteries over the past year since I have had it. Just split the keyboard into the slot when I am leaving my desk for the night (about once a week) and you are ready to go in the morning. Nice green product. Looks good on the desk.

Why this should be disconnected & what is better

    1. Buy the Apple rechargeable battery charger kit which includes 6aa NiMH batteries for 29.99CAD. You then have batteries for the keyboard, mouse and trackpad... The batteries charge in same amount of time, they will provide much longer run time, they can be charged many more times, and they will stay charged longer even if the devices are not in use (time between charges is months).

    2. This product costs twice as much, yet only includes 2 batteries.. Also the batteries are NiCD - which are out-dated, they perform horribly, they lose charge in less than a week just sitting around even when not inserted in a device, at best when fully charged you get 6 hours runtime... Seriously? Discontinue this product please.

The idea seems smart but not practical. I had it 12 hours and bumped it. It feel to the ground and broke the round stubby bit off the keyboard. I like the idea but not user friendly.

    No good, don't buy

    Product description very misleading.
1A. It states that the product can be used for both the keyboard AND trackpad. No, you have to spend an extra $30 and purchase another battery pack to use it with both devices. Even then, they can't be charged at the same time, as they both won't fit. That's $80 total.

1B. I contacted them regarding the wording on their packaging and their defence was that in the contents description (in small font on the back) The 'Cylindrical Battery Pack' isn't plural. Therefore, only comes with one.

    2. The keyboard must remain in the dock to charge, which also must remain on a solid flat surface. It would have been nice if the keyboard could clip into the charging bay so that it could remain sturdy and sit on your lap.

    3. The battery does not come charged. There is no information on the packaging with battery care instructions.
The battery tech used is also not mentioned. Who knows what it's made from, and how dangerous it is. Plus, you only get 10 days use out of it.

    4. Poor quality. I had no luck getting it to work in my keyboard (AAx2 version probably bad contacts) But worked fine in my trackpad.

Overall the experience was pretty bad. Both with the product and customer support. They also tried to make up for the poor labelling by saying that all the info I need is on the website. "On the website it states this.. On the website it states that... So no, we didn't mislead you. If you want another battery you have to order one"
Website information doesn't make up for false packaging.
You also have to think of the products you're using it with. By not knowing anything about the battery, how do you know it won't explode, or leak everywhere and damage your keyboard or trackpad? Do you think Modee will claim responsibility and replace it for you? Doubt it.

Far better options out there than this. Just buy the Apple rechargeable batteries for $30 and be done with it. At least they have the legendary Apple guarantees.

    Battery does not fit

I thought this was going to be a great product, but I got it and the battery doesn't even fit in the threading of my keyboard and the battery is a whole AA battery size too short even reaching the connector for the keyboard. A waste of money. I am now out that money versus the "savings" on my batteries. DON'T BUY.
