Very tipsy, especially in portrait mode

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

This stand is very tipsy, especially when you use it with your iPad in portrait mode. This is true for whether your iPad is the iPad air, iPad 2, 3, or 4. The main problem is that the back leg of this compass stand does not lock in place. As you tap away (using your finger or a stylus), the gentle pressure on the screen slowly pushes the entire stand backwards and then eventually the whole thing topples backwards as the entire stand collapses.

The concept of this stand is great, but the actual design of it has significant problems. Don't buy until Twelve South fixes the back leg so that it can lock in place or produces enough resistance that tapping away on the iPad screen will not end up collapsing the stand. Caveat emptor!!!!

    Great Stand

I just got this stand for my iPad 3. Mine has the complete case and the stand still works great. Very heavy construction and well made.

    Most excellent!

Best 40 bucks I ever spent and first review I have ever written. This stand is minimalistic in design, beautiful and very functional.

Great on an airplane for working or watching a movie. I also use my iPad to control my home automation system (music, lights, home theater). This stand is great for always having those controls within arm's reach.

It turns iPad into a very nice looking alarm clock on any bedside table.

Good Product, but watch out at Airports

    • Written by from Beaconsfield

Its a good solid well made product, just make sure you take it out of your case when going through Airport scanners. I have been stopped multiple times and asked to remove the 'knife like' metallic object.

No big deal but worth noting before you buy this excellent stand if you plan to travel with it

    Very handy

This thing is really small when it's folded.
    It's structurally really solid.
All of the points where it touches your iPad are rubber so it doesn't scratch it.
It's great for watching netflix or movies when you're in bed sick or for perching your iPad on top of your coffee machine to watch the X-Files when you're doing the dishes (these things really happened).

I haven't really used it in the 'secondary position', which is more for typing, because I have a smart cover, but when I tried just to see what it was like, it was a good angle.

If you want a portable stand, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one, because it's sturdy and very portable and won't mess up the finish on your iPad. Full of win.

This is just what I was looking for. A stand that is easy to keep with me and that holds the iPad the way(s) I want to use it. High quality product that does just what it is supposed to do.

I like this stand very much. It holds my iPad at the right angle (for me, anyway). It seems sturdy enough to handle the abuse I dish out. It's quite portable, and takes up hardly any room in my pack. The little case is a thoughtful touch.

If you want to move it back, away from you, you have to grab it by the back leg, rather than pushing it by the front two legs, or it collapses. This isn't a deal-breaker or anything, but it was rather a surprise the first time.
