Is there another company that makes this type of cord, (Audio/visual DP to HDMI) that may be a better investment?
I purchased this not too long ago (would submit for the warranty, but I have no receipts) and it no longer works!
I was wondering if there was another mac compatible audio and visual DP to HDMI cord made by a different company that might be a better idea?

I have the previous MBP model to the current one. I got it in March 2010. Will I still be able to get audio?

Answer
Not using this device. You'll still need a separate audio cable. Or buy an adapter that joins your DP's video output with USB (for digital audio) and gives you a single HDMI port that *does* carry both audio and video. Product 5969 at Monoprice will do it. (only plugging them because Apple doesn't sell one)

You can use this adapter with an HDMI cable for video, but with the previous MacBook Pro, you'll also need something like "XtremeMac XtremeHD Toslink Audio Cable" for the audio.
