What Mac laptop should I use for animation? 13 inch macbook pro, or 13 inch air with same upgrades?
I need a laptop that can render frame rates without lag and with exceptional quality to multitasking.
- Asked by Michael C from Ada

Best AnswerFor this answer I will assume your animation software is primarily CPU-intensive; animation programs like 3DS Max 2013 do not use the computer's graphics card to speed up the rendering process, although some of its plugins do.
To your question, the MacBook Air uses processors that specialize in power efficiency (so, working longer on a single battery charge) whereas the MacBook Pro line uses regular notebook processors that are faster but that use more power. A MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor, say, will therefore be faster than a MacBook Air with a Core i7 and should run animation programs faster.- Answered by Fabian M from Moscow

Can the hard drive on an imac be replaced?
I am interested in an imac but worried about what happens in its hard drive melts. Can it be replaced? or I'll need a new computer at that point.

Best AnswerThe iMac, internally, is very much like a laptop - only with the screen facing outwards and not foldable. There's no real special magic beyond design.
The hard drive is replaceable if needed, but only by someone with the right tools and knowledge about how to get the chassis apart. That, in most people's cases, would be your local Apple Store or authorized retail outlet.
The nice part about repairs to most Apple products is that they're comparatively affordable to their PC counterparts. As an example; Replacing the power-supply on my 2006 vintage iMac was all of $70 (Canadian funds) after tax. Most PC power supplies cost that much just to buy, let alone be installed by a professional.- Answered by Neil B from Victoria

Will the 512GB Solid State Drive Kit originally meant for Macpro with part no. MC731ZM/A, work also with Macbook Pro 2010 and 2011 models?

- Asked about: 512GB Solid-State Drive Kit for Mac…
Best AnswerYes it will, it can fit your computer, if you either take out your HDD and replace it with a SSD or Replace your Optical drive with a SSD to MacBook pro converter and SSD.
ifixit.com is a awesome site, which can help you do this with guides.
I highly prefer another SSD, then this. This one is very expensive. If you do not want your warranty to get avoided, then you should take it to Apple. If you do not have any warranty, then you should do this by yourself or take it to apple or anyway or another shop.- Answered by Samad G

Best Answerif you want portability, you should get a 13 or 15 inch macbook pro or the high end 13 inch macbook air. if you want better performance than a laptop, go for the baseline of the mac mini, which is cheap, at only $600, and it will give you more than enough for everyday use. if you have more money to spend, than you can buy a baseline of the imac, which might not be so everyday because there is a lot more power, but if you are on a budget, than get the mac mini

can i upgrade my old imac early 2009 with new hardware like thunderbolt ect including memory and all updated hardware
- Asked by Chris W from Marlboro
- Aug 28, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerMost likely not. First of all, the internals of the iMac change with every new model and this often includes mounting areas (places where fixings attach) this could mean that the fixing holes in your 2009 logic board won't be in the same place as the 2012 or even 2011 logic boards. Furthermore, the newer models have different port configurations such as thunderbolt as you mentioned, the case for your 2009 iMac won't have the correct placement for the ports and it won't even have a place for the thunderbolt as it didn't exist on iMacs in 2009.
If you want a new, updated iMac then I suggest you sell your 2009 model and purchase the latest one.- Answered by Michael B

i5 vs i7 for MacBook Pro 13''
I decided to buy a MacBook Pro 13''. Now I'm struggling with the decision which processor to choose. I don't do any high-end stuff, just use the internet, office applications, chatting and so on. Sometimes I play computer games like the Sims, so nothing too crazy.
I assume the i5 is propably enough for me. Do you see a reason to invest a little more money and get the i7 instead?- Asked by Ekaterini K

Does the new macbook pro hi-res antiglare upgrade include 1GB GRAM?
The upgrade options for the new MB Pro (not retina) include an antiglare hi-res screen of 1,680-by-1,050 pixels. While the specs for the refurbished machines do give the video ram (GRAM) and show the antiglare hi-res option to include 1GB GRAM, the selection of options for the new machines does not. The graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M) does support 1GB GRAM, so does the upgraded resolution also include the 1GB GRAM?

AnswerHi Richard,
The NEW 2.3GHz configuration does not include 1GB GDDR5 memory. Only 512 GDDR5 memory. Last years model MBP did include 1GB. I'm running last years model and I'm VERY HAPPY. Just upgraded the hard drive with SSD and RAM to 16GB's. Blazing speeds and a touch cooler while running video intensive programs.
From Apple Comparison Chart under Graphics and Video Support :
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB of GDDR5 memory (15-inch 2.3GHz configuration)
OR
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory (15-inch 2.6GHz configuration) and automatic graphics switching- Answered by Matthew S from Brooklyn

How much power do I really need from a new macbook pro??
I need purchase advice on a new macbook pro. I need to know the difference between what I want, and what I need. This is what I want the new laptop to do;
(1) download 2-3 software programs to do a lot of video & sound editing
(2) I want to be able to run two programs or software at the same time. For example, using photoshop/apperture on one side of my screen while editing with FinalCut in another and be able to take a call on Skype without freezing.
I'm guessing 10GB of space exclusively reserved for that kind of power, but is that under the 8/16GB MEMORY option or the 256-768GB STORAGE option when buying online? On the apple.com "buy now" page. It says 8GB is enough memory for video & photos (which is exactly what I want!!) but then it contradicts it by saying if you want to use Aperture (photo editor) & Final Cut Pro (video editing software) I should get a 16GB...huh?!?!
Currently I have 25GB of songs/podcasts etc. on my iTunes & another 15GB of personal photos on my archaic computer but that's only over 6 years! Any important videos and/or media is stored on an external hard drive & I use a friend's PC to do any Photoshop editing.
Obviously, if I want to go all out I can, but then I end of paying the same price for a laptop as Steven Spielberg would, and I ain't no Steven Spielberg!! So what is it that I really need because I can't do anything with the model I currently have!?!
Thanks everyone!!- Asked by Julio C from Los Angeles

Can I engrave my mac? What product is used to insert CDs?
When buying the iPod you get free engraving, is it possible to engrave my Macbook Air? And also, I have seen that you cannot insert CDs but instead have to buy additional hardware in order to use them. What hardware should I purchase with the Macbook Air 11"?

Best Answer1. No, Macs cannot be engraved, yet.
2. To use CD/DVD's with MacBook Air, you will have to buy an external optical drive. The most compatible is the Apple SuperDrive which connects via USB- Answered by Marian O
