Can I turn off the iPad screen while watching netflix or a slideshow with this connected? When iPad goes to sleep, everything shuts off.

I have noticed this same problem but I have concluded that you cannot sleep the iPad when watching Netflix. I either just turn the iPad over so I don't see the screen or turn the brightness down.
