If I bought my friend's iphone 4 (At&t), would I be able to activate it on my line (Verizon)?

  No. There are two versions of the iPhone 4, one for AT&T (the original GSM model), and one for Verizon (CDMA model). Verizon has brand new iPhone 4's with 8GB of storage for free with a new 2-year contract ($449.99 without a contract).
