I got the iPhone 5 4 months ago and this cable that I received with my phone doesn't work anymore. The cable I had with my iPhone I got the iPhone 5 4 months ago and this cable that I received with my phone doesn't work anymore. The cable I had with my iPhone 4, I had for 2 years with no problems at all. So I find it very strange that the lighting cord can stop working so easily. Even the cord for my first generation iPod touch which is 6 years old and it still works. Now I have to go buy another cord and spend more money to keep using my phone. I hope the issue gets fixed soon because I don't want to keep buying new lighting cords every 4 months.

I've gone through three different lightning cords in the four months I've had my iPhone 5. All three have inexplicably stopped working. Each has gotten a short in the cord where it meets the lightning end though I've been careful to leave them straight, treat them gently (especially since the first failed). With my current cord, I have to hold the lightning end of the cord in a certain direction to get it to work.

On top of that, when it happens to short out, it interferes with the electric current, disabling linked ports. i.e. when it shorts out in any of my computers' USB ports, the other ports become inactive as well (disabling my external hard drive and USB mouse); when it is plugged in a charger with multiple outputs, the other outputs become inactive as well.

After buying several chargers, three iPods, three iPhones, and an iPad, I had amassed ten of the old 30-pin connectors. All ten work just as well as they did when I brought them home; I took it for granted that I never had an issue with any of them.

Not up to usual Apple quality standards. Breaks down with normal use.

I have had 4 of these cables - all originals that came with devices (iPod x 2, iPhone, iPad) and all are now not working. I have I have had 4 of these cables - all originals that came with devices (iPod x 2, iPhone, iPad) and all are now not working. I have been very careful with them after experiencing the delicate nature of the old style cables and yet they still failed. One failed after only three weeks.! However, the good news is that after speaking to Apple, they assure me that the cables will be replaced free of charge if I take them to an Apple store. I'll let you know how I get on... But even with that, I don't fancy having to trek to my nearest store (20 miles) every time I need to get my cables replaced! MAKE THEM STRONGER AND MORE RELIABLE PLEASE APPLE!!!

I have had an iPad, an iPad mini, and two iPhone 5s which need the lightning cable. They range between 6 months and 36 months old. Not once have I had a cable break or malfunction. I think the reviewer who said the problem people have may be due to dust/dirt in the socket is probably right - I have cases on all my devises. Also one has to remember that these devices are sophisticated pieces of technology, and whilst robust (I've dropped my phone and iPad loads of times without breaking them), they still have to be maintained and looked after.
