Back up a lifetime’s worth of memories with AirPort Time Capsule, a wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine in OS X. It’s also a fully featured Wi-Fi base station with the latest 802.11ac technology and simultaneous dual-band support. Choose from 2TB and 3TB models. Learn more about AirPort Time Capsule

  • Automatic wireless backup.

AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution.1 There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.

    Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.2 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Time Capsule and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Time Capsule can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Time Capsule features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Not sure, had a airport extreme and express (to extend range) in home and decided to replace both with this 3TB 2013 Time Capsule and have an easy backup drive built in, so far excellent. Range seems to be way better, set up was a breeze, just left everything at default settings (didn't mess with channels, or 5gz) and so far getting my paid for speeds throughout the house on speedtest on iPhone 5's, macbook pro retina, air, iPads etc. The time machine backup is also amazingly a breeze, backing up 3 different machines, don't have to partition the drive based on which machine, you just tell it to backup to the time capsule and it figures it out for you. Love it. One small minor wish, Apple make a BLACK one please, it would blend in with people's components better like the apple tv, but whatever.

I am really happy with the Bonjour printing support. On my Mac it worked without any changes. On my Windows 7 box, I downloaded the Bonjour driver and then it worked.

The time machine backup is going to take 18 hours for starters but after that I'm looking forward to having constant backups on the mac.

This unit is larger than I expected, about the size of a brick. It is quite heavy, probably from the hard drive within.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

The old one was A few weeks ago, I ordered this to replace my first or second gen (don't recall, it's been a while) Time Capsule. The old one was a refurb, and had seen better days. Signal strength was weakening, backup had stopped, it was refreshing IP and dropping connections. There are at least 10 devices in my house connecting all at the same time. I work from home. I was hesitant to order this one based on some of the reviews. If you're like me, don't hesitate. It's great.

Setup was a breeze. Did it from my iPhone. Backups from my Apple laptop started immediately. All devices connected seamlessly; no need to go through the password routine. Xbox, iPhones, Android phones, printers, Kindles, two work laptops, one personal laptop and more --- lots going on.

Signal strength is outstanding. I get 5 bars on my Windows laptop (my main work device) consistently, dropping to 4 at the lowest. I do a lot of VOIP talking through this laptop and voice quality in and out is good. Page loading is fast. Document uploads and downloads are great. I have good cable speed and could never understand why my uploads/downloads were so slow. This device has addressed that.

And lastly, the design is typically Apple genius. The vertical presence is much more friendly to being put on your desk top. Instead of hiding under some shelf and collecting months' worth of dust, it sits there like it's supposed to be there.

If it starts to fizzle out, I'll be sure to post another review, but so far -- Fantastic.

Take all reviews with a grain of salt, positive and negative, as there are people who this will NOT work so well for and others, like myself, who its perfect for.
No, it is not a "modem/router", no it will not "extend" your wifi network unless using 2 of them to bounce off each other, OR you seriously know how to actually make this one pick up a wifi signal and repeat it.
BUT in saying that, if you need a wifi backup of your mac and want to use time machine wirelessly. it works fine. If you would like access to everything from the drive (The old "back to mac" style) it seems to work fine (albeit a little slower that I would have hoped)

The machine looks good, works for its intended purpose and works well. I think apple just need to be careful when advertising certain aspects and the wording of those aspects.... maybe they are expecting with future upgrades they will allow more functionality with this, but who knows.

All in all, very happy with the 3TB model, use it daily, and I have had no issues with it what so ever.

I replaced a Linksys E4200 WiFi with the AirPort Time Capsule 3TB. First thing i noticed, the improved signal strength and speed. I am able to use wireless N 5GHz on my devices without any issues. Setup was very easy except the limited selections for IP settings on the network. I like to use a custom IP, but with this device, only limited to 3 static choices in the IPv4 range. Also, you cannot limit the number of connections on the Guest WiFi.
There are only 3 Ethernet ports. I guess Apple wants us to use the Wifi.
The built-in 3TB HDD is great for Apple's Time Machine.
There is drawback that AppleCare is not available for the product. Not sure if I need it since all my Apple devices has not failed in 3 years that i owned them.
    The design is great.
