Apple iPod nano Dock (2nd generation)
Like all iPod Docks, the iPod nano Dock enables quick connectivity if you have a desktop computer without an easily accessible USB 2.0 port. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in — just place iPod nano in the dock and it’s ready to sync with iTunes and charge its battery. And you can plug a stereo mini cable to its line-out port and enjoy a clean, direct connection to a stereo or powered speakers.

I bought this product when my nano was getting scratched from docking it and setting it on my desk. The sound is quite well when hooked up to a stereo, and it isn't a hassle to pull the cord out from behind the computer. I very much recommend this product to everyone (even if your 2 years old!!!). It is a GREAT VALUE. …More

This product is worth the money.

2. The audio aux output works great when plugging a set of speakers
3. Saves your iPod's back from scratching from your desktop surface

This is a really great little accessory which adds extra versatility to your nano. Ignore previous bad reviews due to people either buying the wrong dock for their iPod or simply expecting cables to be included when they're not. Does exactly what it says and is a really solid quality bit of kit. Yes, it is rather expensive for what it is but I too got one on eBay for a fiver so can't complain myself!! …More

Apple iPod nano Dock (2nd generation)
Not just a lump of plastic...

But it's the sound that matters, isn't it?
Yes, this is a perfect fit for the 2G iPod nano. And yes it makes connection to USB, for syncing and charging, much easier. But the real difference is SOUND. Connect nano to stereo via headphone socket: sound is thin, drab, weedy; connect via dock: sound is full and lively. Whatever the electronic difference inside the dock may be - and I haven't x-rayed it to find out - the sound output is DRAMATICALLY improved. You can pay much more for "audiophile" docks - Arcam, KEF, etc; but even this basic Apple dock does a fine job of delivering decent sound to the hifi. Good value for that alone. …More110 of 204 people found this useful
