  • Overview

Plug & Play with Lightning, 30-pin and USB

iRig KEYS PRO comes complete with Lightning connector and 30-pin cables for plugging directly into the dock connector of any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. A USB cable is included for direct Mac or PC connection. With standard Core MIDI support, you can play any compatible virtual instrument or recording app on your iOS device or computer from Apple’s GarageBand to IK’s SampleTank. iRig KEYS PRO needs no AC adapter or batteries, it draws its power from the device it’s connected to, and it even features an auxiliary mini-USB port to provide it with power during performance, allowing the battery on the mobile device to be conserved.

    Programming and expansion

iRig KEYS PRO also has powerful programming features that are useful during live performance and in the studio. Players can program iRig KEYS PRO with different set-ups and store them in one of the 4 “Set” banks. When iRig KEYS PRO is in Edit mode, the user can set the MIDI transmit channel, velocity (touch) response, assign Control Change numbers to the Volume/Data knob, send custom Program Change messages, transpose the keyboard in semi-tones and more.

    Don’t forget the pedals.

iRig KEYS PRO also supports an expansion jack for adding a sustain pedal (not included) for a realistic piano feel, or an expression pedal that sends MIDI continuous controller data that can control parameters such as volume, rotary speaker speed, tremolo and vibrato speed and more, on the connected app or software instrument.

Free apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac/PC

iRig KEYS PRO comes complete with free pro-quality virtual instrument apps and software that can be immediately downloaded and played, for a true plug-and-play experience out the box.

iGrand Piano FREE for iPad, the concert-quality piano app for iPad with 2 world-class, multi-velocity stereo grand and upright piano instruments, expandable library of 15 additional studio-grade instruments instantly available via in-app purchase, MIDI Recorder with overdub capability, and much more.

SampleTank for iPhone or iPad FREE, the virtual sound module including a complete selection of acoustic, electric and electronic instruments and patterns, unlocking 48 bonus instruments in addition of the 20 included with the free version.

SampleTank 2 L the Mac/PC sample workstation, available both as a stand-alone and as a plug-in for most popular DAW (including GarageBand and Logic) with 2 GB of samples in every instruments category.

As advertised, the keyboard has a pretty big range for iOS and OS compatibility; for me, my iPhone and iPad still use iOS 7, my iPod on iOS 5, and my Mac on OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and they all worked great.

Concerning the apps included with the keyboard, I've only briefly tried them, but they were fairly self-explanatory and worked without a hitch, just like when I used the keyboard with GarageBand.

Essentially, the keyboard works exactly how the specs are laid out, key sensitivity, software, and all.

P.s. In case anyone was wondering, a pedal is not included.

    1. Some keys are higher, some are lower, they are not leveled.
    2. Some keys are loose, and especially one is so loose that affects the playing.

For a S$250 product, this is not the quality I anticipated.

  • Awkward design when plugged into Mac

Bought it for my studio classroom, and it has two major problems: the power cord is meant to be plugged into the left side, where it sticks out awkwardly, adding inches to the length of keyboard (which is a problem in my tight space), then it plugs into the RIGHT side of my computer, where the USB ports are. So it awkwardly juts out and stretches all the way across. It really doesn't look like it "matches." I trusted Apple to have the sleekest design, and am disappointed after the claims of 30% smaller. What a silly design! (look on Amazon for good pictures of this silliness; unfortately purchased from Apple site, which did not have these pictures. Oops). Second issue is that middle c is not really in the middle at all, which is usually fine, I'm sure, but is pretty confusing for my students. Beware of that if you are using it with young kids. We work a lot on high notes and low notes and middle C... treble and bass clefs etc... (Mostly we have the keyboard to connect with the "Children's Music Journey" software and also "Synthesia") and the fact the middle C is pretty far to the left makes this kind of confusing. Probably not an issue for most of you but worth noting for new learners. : )
