Thought that this new one would be an improvement. I couldn't have been more surprised.

Problems are almost too numerous to list: camera struggled to contact to network (easy setup? No.); app wouldn't allow me to log numerous times; couldn't get live feed while away from home; motion detection did not work consistently; alerts were seemingly random and often recorded no video to show what happened; regular "server updates" left me without service for chunks of time.

I was mystified at recent "updates" to the app; the previous one was smashing, pleasing to the eye and easy to use. In my view, the new one is poorly designed and very counter-intuitive to the user. This experience was like night and day from my old camera. After repeated attempts, I finally connected with customer service and vented my frustration. After trying to fix my problems unsuccessfully, they shed some light on the mystery; it seems that the company changed hands in the last year. They closed up shop in FL and moved to Utah; none of the excellent technicians I spoke to before are with the company.

I don't know what they are playing at, but it certainly hasn't translated into anything resembling a functioning product or software. Back to the Apple Store my purchase went. Judging by the hundreds of unhappy customers on the App Store, I'm not alone.

  • Not Impressed – Low Quality, Hard to Use, Systematic Problems

I've had it for about six months now, and I don't really have anything good to say about it. At one point I actually had it replaced by Stem Innovation (the manufacturer), but found that it is just poor quality by design and it wasn't a defective unit. They're unwilling to even acknowledge the possibility of a refund, only able to provide quasi-technical explanations for this incredibly low quality "toy".

To highlight some of the specific problems with this camera:
    -Low-quality image, regardless of lighting
-Slow to access using the app, even locally over WiFi
-Motion detection is based entirely on light, so clouds outside changing for example will set off a motion event
-Inconsistent motion events: Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't – sometimes captures the entire event, sometimes captures just the ending, although it advertises the 5 seconds surrounding the event
-Inconsistent connectivity: This might have something to do with a few of the above points, but I've found sometimes it will just appear that the camera is simply not connected

    Other limitations include:
-You cannot download video without emailing them (not-advertised) for the specific file, which may take up to two weeks (so they have direct access to your personal files, and you don't...)
-It will only record up to 25 events to the cloud in a day – so if for instance your camera is mistriggered, and say captures you moving around the house, it's quite possible the criminals breaking into your house will not be recorded
-You can only access it via your mobile device (iPad, iPod), not browser, etc.

Would not buy again and would not recommend to anyone for any purpose. There are plenty of much better, as-expensive or cheaper options out there...

This is a great example of a wonderful idea, very poorly executed. Has the potential to be great. I've had it a couple of years, and at one stage the software was relatively good. Now it's awful. I recently moved house, and tried to use this camera again; it's a nightmare to try to reset.

Do yourself a favour, buy $150 worth of pizza, I guarantee you'll be more satisfied than if you buy this camera.

Overall, if you have an older router that works in the 2.5 GHz range, the camera will work very well and reliably - IF there is not a lot of interference on that crowded spectrum in your area. In areas where there is a crowded 2.5 GHz spectrum, your camera will always disconnect within a day or so and it will need to be set up all over again.

The best camera for high resolution and reliability is a Dropcam HD (the black one). These cameras cost almost twice as much, but you most definitely get what you pay for. Customer service with the IZON is quite responsive, but their knowledge is relatively limited, and they often know less about the technicalities of their product than the people calling them.

Overall, the camera will work in a relatively isolated environment and it will be rock stable - but in a crowded environment like an office building or apartment - you may end up getting frustrated with it.
