Great looking, great sound & price
Just received this today so early, but did research a lot of lightning connector options on Apple and elsewhere before buying.
Th Just received this today so early, but did research a lot of lightning connector options on Apple and elsewhere before buying.
The sound is very good, the lightning connection is excellent, and actually swivels to allow fit with cases. I've tried it with my iPod Nano and iPad Mini and fit is perfect, and the sound quality is really very good. Also looks great. Clock syncs when you attach your device.
Only downside so far is working out how to set up and presets - had to read the manual! …

Very poor low volume audio quality
I bought this dock with the intention of using it as a bedside clock however the speakers are extremely poor at low volume. Listen I bought this dock with the intention of using it as a bedside clock however the speakers are extremely poor at low volume. Listening at low volume the audio sounded like a badly tuned FM radio with a constant hissing and distortion to the sound.
I assumed this was a faulty unit so returned it but when the replacement arrived it suffered the exact same issue.
The hissing even continues even when audio is not playing which is infuriating for a bedside clock!
Another minor quibble is that you can adjust the clock brightness but every time you turn the speakers on it resets to maximum and you then have to adjust it again.
I've since bought another Philips clock dock which is excellent but I would not recommend this model. …

Large and flimsy
Product is poorly constructed. Very cheap looking patterned plastic. Extremely large and quite impractical as an alarm clock. If I Product is poorly constructed. Very cheap looking patterned plastic. Extremely large and quite impractical as an alarm clock. If I had seen this product before purchasing I would not have even considered it as an option.
Charging dock is already starting to fail only after 3 uses. Apple will not help with after sale care. Have to deal with manufacturer. …

Not what I would expect from Philips
This review shall be very brief due to the unit being inoperable. Unpacked on day of purchase and set time, preset the stations et This review shall be very brief due to the unit being inoperable. Unpacked on day of purchase and set time, preset the stations etc. all was fine, switched unit off. Around 2 hours later showed my wife how to work it as it was for her, the unit would not switch on, clock was working but radio would not switch on, unplugged and plugged again, nothing but a flashing click display. Did get radio to turn again but then it would not turn off and buttons to adjust time, volume and fine tuning worked intermittently, it's going back for a refund tomorrow. …

It's bad enough that it is all plastic vs the aluminum build of the previous model and the descriptions on the controls are almost impossible to read. But the real kicker is the radio which receives exactly ONE station on the entire dial. The previous 30 pin model had a very sensitive radio that pulled in far away stations. To sum up: a piece of junk. Stay away. …

Decent sound and great features for the price.
I brought this unit recently to replace my old clock radio. I looked at numerous other options including Bluetooth wireless speake I brought this unit recently to replace my old clock radio. I looked at numerous other options including Bluetooth wireless speakers and apps but decided on this for several reasons. I wanted a unit that would recharge my iPhone 5 overnight. I wanted to go to sleep listening to nature sounds on my phone and wake up to fm radio. I wanted the option of listening to my iPod Classic. I wanted a unit with decent sound. This unit ticks all these boxes.
The unit actually delivers a pretty decent sound for its size. Clear and punchy and doesn't seem to distort at louder volumes.
Clock automatically syncs to your phone, makes setup easy.
Auto tuning FM channels also helpful.
Slow volume increase for alarm / radio nice addition.
You can use buttons on unit to skip through tracks, play, pause or change volume on your iPod.
The not so good:
Some settings are harder to find. Took me a while to find eq settings, or how to select source for the alarm. Still not sure how to switch off Alarm without just hitting snooze.
Some of the buttons could be raised slightly for fumbling hands in the early morning. A touch sensor would be a nice addition
The 30 pin dock not ideal behind the lighting one as prevents being able to use jog wheel on the iPod. (Just select album or playlist before docking and use unit buttons)
Clock display not as good from low angles, but still fine, this is a minor gripe.
On the whole, I am very pleased with the unit. I think Philips have done a good job here getting all these features into this unit for a reasonable price, especially when you compare with Tivoli or Yamaha options.
Sure, It's not perfect, but I doubt a unit 3x the price would be either. Hence the rating of 4 stars for the price. …
