More than just digital scales, the Smart Body Analyser tracks both your weight and your body composition. Check your heart rate simply by stepping on, with no extra effort involved. Thanks to its Bluetooth connectivity, the Smart Body Analyser is super-easy to set up on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. After each weigh in, the scale automatically uploads and syncs your data via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Access your securely stored information whenever and wherever you need via the web or with the Health Mate app. Use it to set weight goals and the app will break them down into weekly achievable targets as well as giving you relevant tips. Even when you’re not standing on it, the scale is continuously monitoring the air quality of your indoor environment through temperature and carbon dioxide metering.
It is also made for the whole family as it can monitor up to eight different users. Everyone can have their own user profile and, once the Smart Body Analyser gets to know your weight, it automatically recognises who steps on it.

Like all scales that get body fat %/lean mass % is not accurate, however it is consistent making it useful. The heart rate monitor is cool. You can also add your heart rate manually via the app.

I understand $150 is A LOT for a scale, but this is well worth it if you are interested in finding a good way to track your health and/or weigh loss progress and love high tech gadgets. The Withings App is simple to use and keeps your data at your fingertips and allows easy sharing to your health practitioner of your choice. It's not for everyone, but if you want a high end scale that does it all this is my recommendation. We also have the Blood Pressure Monitor, and the Baby Monitor on an unrelated note, which is worth a look as well. …

The Health Mate website is unreliable.

The problem is that Withings' Health Mate website is not all that reliable. Sometimes it has problems connecting to the backend database, and sometimes it's just unreachable. This is bad enough, but to make matters even worse, when the iOS app cannot connect to the website and/or the database, data is deleted from the iOS app. This makes no sense. If the data exists on the phone, a sync failure to the Health Mate website should not result in data being deleted from the phone. Even when the phone eventually is able to sync to the Health Mate website it doesn't matter, because whatever data couldn't be synced previously is deleted from the phone. As a result, you're forced to keep separate records by hand, if you want to have a reliable record of your weight. …

Essentially this means every day you must turn the scale over, hold down the pairing button, go to the app and re establish the connection. It would be far easier to just manually log in the data to an app. Expensive manual scale is really all it is. The "weather " shows rain on the scale screen if it is raining or snowing. Looking out the window takes less time. The heart rate takes forever and fails 50% of the time. It is really a terrible product and I am surprised that Apple would sell it in their stores. …

In that case, I would presume that the phone being close would not be a requirement. This data would be synchronised with your phone through the cloud rather than directly from the scale.
If WiFi is not setup on the scale, then it would depend on whether the phone is in range and the app is open (even in the background should be OK.) …
