BEATS JAWBONE JAMBOX HANDS DOWN.
Having been impressed with the sound quality of the jawbone jambox i was out for a speaker with the same qualities but a louder ou tput. The Jabra Solemate is exactly that. A fantastic little speaker with great quality sound for the size and most importantly for beach scenarios ect... A loud enough sound.

MY SOULMATE :-)
WOW...the Jabra Solemate looks and sounds great. It takes a couple of hours to charge up for 8 hours of listening pleasure. I don 't want to give too much away cos it's fun to find out what else this unit does. It's a fun portable speaker that you will make a connection with. Highly recommended. …

great but some limitations
This is a great product - solid, portable and supports 3.5mm jack input, USB input (although I've yet to try that) and bluetooth. The sound is great, but it's not that loud, eg. I was able to use it outdoors in an open room (roof with no walls) and fill that roughly 6m x 3m room with decent sound, but at full sound, the listeners were asking for it to be louder. The loudness of the music also depends on the volume level of the input sound. The unit also seems to work better using the 3.5mm jack - ie. louder, and less dropouts.
The bluetooth works well, although you can only connect 1 device at a time. It can remember different devices, but only 1 can connect at a time. So you have to disconnect 1 device, then reconnect a different one. That can get a little annoying. Would be good if it could switch on queue, maybe a future firmware revision? There is voice guidance on how to connect, when the unit is ready to connect, and when a device is connected, but the voice over guy and music that comes with the device is a little too laid back/surfer dude/try hard for my liking.

Does an iphone or ipod dock directly into this unit or is a cable needed? Does it charge the iphone/ipod whilst playing?

It uses bluetooth to connect to your iphone or ipod wirelessly, otherwise an auxiliary cable is incl uded to connect it. It doesn't charge you device while playing. …
