However, the bottom part of the case two of the joint parts have broke.. (in about 2weeks) so now it kinda sides in and out now.. still works though..
Another thing, it does make your rMBP to heat up faster (if you're doing any high performance usage this will most likely cause it to heat up)..
But all in all an good product if you just want some protection... …

Not worth it.
I bought this case after reading reviews of this product for the MacBook Pro 13 inch with retina display. I have the Macbook Pro 1 I bought this case after reading reviews of this product for the MacBook Pro 13 inch with retina display. I have the Macbook Pro 15 inch with retina display. It's a good product, but the company recommends that you remove the case and any dust that has collected in between the case and your laptop. When I went to remove the case, I found that it was very difficult to do and there was an excellent chance that it was going to scratch my brand new laptop-that cost me a $3800! Also, the screen for retina display laptops are super thin and I felt that removing the shell could damage the screen because it so hard to take off. Needless to say, I bought an Incase sleeve instead. $50 gone to waste, but at least I know my laptop won't be damaged by the case that is supposed to protect it. …

Retaining clip broken
I bought the Speck 15" SmartShell Case approximately 5 months ago, and have managed to break one of the retaining clips Negative
I bought the Speck 15" SmartShell Case approximately 5 months ago, and have managed to break one of the retaining clips on the lower shell.
I think this is a design flaw as I am not the only person to have suffered a broken retaining clip - the width of the plastic is too narrow, or the material isn't flexible enough.
The SmartShell adds a considerable amount of weight to your Macbook, which makes one handed handling of the Macbook at arms length more difficult.
Price - seems expensive for 2 sheets of plastic.
Protects the Macbook very well (even with a broken clip) - I have kids and if I didn't have the SmartShell fitted, the Macbook would be covered in a multitude of scrapes and scratches from the kids and from being carted around in my briefcase with other equipment.
Overall it's a good idea, but the clips need better designing.
A thin film of stick on plastic would be a better idea. …

HANDS DOWN THE ABSOLUTE BEST CASE FOR YOUR MBP RETINA
From my experience the Speck SmartShell is the best overall case for your Macbook Pro. I originally purchased this case for my Mac From my experience the Speck SmartShell is the best overall case for your Macbook Pro. I originally purchased this case for my Macbook Pro 17" and again for my 15" Retina and thought it's a good case but it does show scratches since the plastic is glossy clear and the feet underneath the case will get slightly yellow with time (at least the one for my MBP 17" did after a few years). I looked at the reviews for the Moshi 15" iGlaze Shell case and thought I should give it a try instead since so many people highly recommend the iGlaze over the SmartShell. It turns out they're very wrong and here's why. Most people said the iGlaze does not show scratches. They're wrong, if you look closely, only a few times after handling the case you can see the hairline scratches... you just see them a bit less because the case is "glazed" but trust me they're there. The biggest problem with the iGlaze is the finish of the plastic. It's extremely slippery in your hand, compared to the Speck SmartShell which has the gloss finish and is extremely sticky to the touch. If you hold both of them in each hand you will see how the Speck SmartShell actually grips better. Even if you only close your MBP and insert it in a bag or like me carry your MBP up a flight of stairs you will take the Speck SmartShell any day over the Moshi iGlaze Shell because it has a better feel in the hand that's safer to carry in one hand. Simply put the Moshi 15" iGlaze Shell case is a straight up fail compared to the Speck SmartShell case. …

Buy for the meantime, hope for the best
The keyboard's bottom corner clips started to break which is a shame because I really like the color of the teal hardshell. My la The keyboard's bottom corner clips started to break which is a shame because I really like the color of the teal hardshell. My laptop has never been dropped or thrown and only goes from my desk, bed, and couch. The bottom clips are the first to go and I think that's because the clips are so close to the corners, that when you close your case and hold it closed, it will have the pressure forced onto them making them split and finally break off.
Speck needs to change the clips for the keyboard because as soon as one breaks, the entire bottom falls off. Since everyone has complained about all the cases, if you really need a hardshell, get this one for the meantime and just hope for the best and that incase, speck, or Moshi design better hardshells for the rMBP. …

The case allows little bits of debris in between the case and the computer. After a while you'll start to get little scratches in the aluminium. I have had this case for about 2 years now. It will protect your computer from larger thing falling on it but there's not to many benefits to this case other than that. …

does this case fit the new macbook pro retina 13" late 2013 model
- Asked by Fraser P

I recently purchased a new macbook retina and speck case. The top part that connects to the display I recently purchased a new macbook retina and speck case. The top part that connects to the display fits like a glove. However the bottom part with the main body of the keyboard is a little loose. I think this is due to the fact that new new MBPr is 1mm thinner than the earlier model. I'm considering returning the speck case tomorrow in to wait for the new MBPr case. …
