    best stand. hands down

    • Written by from San Francisco

i tried every single stand you can possibly think of. if you are looking for a compact, versatile, durable stand, the compass is for you. i love being able to fit the compass in any small compartment. My bag, my pocket, and the little side pouch on my belkin case. i cant wait to bring it to school and to use for taking notes in class with its low incline position. it will also work if you have a case for your ipad as well. and breaking it down takes 2 seconds. the ipad changed the way i do everything. the twelve south compass is an awesome addition and companion to the ipad. 3 thumbs up! Solid, Attractive, Versatile Stand

    • Written by from Austin

I've been looking for an iPad stand for a while now. Most of them are either unattractive, clumsy, large, or require your iPad to be in a case.

I just got my Compass stand today, and so far I love it. It's made of nice heavy steel and folds down to something just a little larger than a Sharpie pen. All the points that contact your iPad are rubberized, so there is no worry of scratching it if you don't use a case. It feels very stable while sitting in the stand, and the tips of the feet are rubberized as well so it won't slide around.

At $40, it's not the cheapest stand, but certainly not the most expensive. Well worth it in my opinion.

    Pros:

    * Attractive - looks like something apple would make
    * Doesn't require a special case
    * Folds down for portability and includes a slip case
    * Versatile - holds your ipad in portrait, landscape
    * Versatile - adjust the back lack to change the viewing angle
    * Versatile - special low angle view for more serious typing

    So far I love it!

A Stand Worthy of the iPad

    • Written by from Mequon

Much as I love my iPad's ultra portability, there are times when I want to enjoy its gorgeous screen hands-free. As any iPad owner knows, watching a Netflix movie while holding the iPad at the appropriate angle can get tiring.

The Twelve South Compass falls into that rare category of "must have" accessories. From a design and aesthetics standpoint it lives up to the standards Apple set. Constructed from sturdy powder-coated steel, the Compass has the heft to support your screen securely. Neoprene pads on all contact surfaces, as well as on its feet, mean that both your iPad and any table or desk you place it on, remain scratch free.

The stand folds up into a relatively small package, weighing just under a pound, about the size of a small flashlight. The only (possible) concern I'd have about it is trying to take it through airport security.

The stand works well in either lanscape or portrait mode. It is one of the few stands that allows you to prop your iPod up securely to let you watch movies in bed.

Lastly, the Compass provides a handy - and attractive - display stand for the iPad itself when its not in use.

    Deserved a 5 stars but...

Great design, nice packaging, folds nicely, feels heavy and strong, rubber feet make it perfectly stable.
Deserved a 5 stars but the plastic protection sheets left one side totally sticky so I had to clean it before I could use it. More

    Elegant, efficient stand

    • Written by from Fort Worth

I have used this stand in many settings for over two years and continue to find it to be one of the most pleasing accessories I associate with my iPad. It is surprisingly heavy and durable, yet sleek and elegant. It especially useful when typing is necessary on the virtual keyboard. More

Excellent stand - Beautiful and Functional

    • Written by from STEVENSVILLE

This product works as designed in all three modes. I frequently use the landscape mode to prop the iPad next to my mac to review online documentation as I am working. If you are very heavy handed and actually push the iPad along the desk as you are using it, then you may cause the rear leg to buckle and collapse in either Landscape or portrait mode.

Several reviewers have commented on this, but it takes quite a heavy touch on the screen to move the stand. Note that this is not true for the Home button! The Home button must be used in a pinching style; pressing with the thumb and supporting from the rear with the index finger. Natural really.

Bottom line; I love my stand. It is a tool and like any tool needs to be used properly. I would rate this 5 stars (despite the price) if the rear leg locked and the pads the iPad sits on were hooked to prevent the iPad from slipping off. Both of these improvements would make this more "idiot" proof - and there are times when all of us could use this protection.
