    I like iWork for it's simple functionality that is geared towards great screen presentation, but you can't beat the powerhouse punches of Excel, Word and Powerpoint. For those still stuck in a 'PC at work, Mac at home' world, this offers some resemblance of the familiar Office. For many who are still stuck with old Office like XP and such, you'll find the leap to 2011 quite a change. The Home & Student version is a compelling package at it's price... and I'm interested to see if the next iWork can compete! For now - it's Office 2011 all the way. …More

    This awful product perfectly exemplifies why MS has become irrelevant

    I've used Word, Excel, blah blah, since way before it was Office. 20 years maybe? A long time. Almost every iteration has MORE MORE MORE features than the prior version and is LESS LESS LESS usable, less intuitive, bulkier, but more colorful and more full of sparkly buttons! However....2011 is so freakishly inferior to 2004 (or was it 2008?) it's hard to imagine how such a product could come to exist. Menus are buried under menus which are buried under menus. Toolbars are clunky, unintuitive, buried. To understand how bad this is, I have actually tried to use Help! Can you understand the level of desperation required to drive someone (me) to try to access MS "Help"?? As bad as it is, it's still better than the Windows version, because, for some inexplicable reason they've left in bits and pieces of the prior version. So you get the new glossy junk button mazes, but you also get some bits of the old (actually useful) menus and toolbar options. Although this is better than nothing, it certainly gives it a bolted-together frankenstein-like interface....all in all, a hideous junkpile of apps.

    Anyhow, we are all stuck with this pap until they jam the next even worse improved version down our throats in another year or so. Alternatives, please?     …More

    Helped transition

    I have been running Office for Mac 2011 for over a year on my 11" MB Air. This was my transition away from Windows and I chose MS Office for Mac to help ease my transition. It paid off. I do a lot of Powerpoint presentations for teaching at college. They are LOADED with graphics and can be 40-50 slides long easily. I may also have a lot of browser windows open while working as well as mail, Word etc. It has never crashed, seized up or gone slow. I am very impressed with the MBAir as well as the Office 2011. When at home I have the MBAir plugged into the great 27" Cinema Screen monitor plus wireless k/b, mouse and trackpad. Runs like a big desktop! Office for Mac is excellent. …More
