    Initial impressions

I have not had these for a long time so cannot make a full judgment but I was so offended by the negativity of some reviewers that I had to say something.

These are actually ok. Obviously you can't expect great performance out of a couple of AA batteries but I wasn't disappointed with the batteries at all. What did disappoint me was the size of the screen. 62" at 10 feet turns out to be smaller than it sounds. I am used to a 27" about a meter away and that is a lot bigger. Having said that, these are larger than you can achieve by watching an iPhone screen.

Some people have been expecting to be able to walk around town with these like they were some kind of slim transparent screen. These people are idiots, obviously a couple of screens does take up some space, it will stick out from your face. Having said this, it is possible to walk around with these. Probably dangerous to walk around town but in the countryside you would be able to see enough out the sides that you probably wouldn't kill yourself. I certainly walk around quite happily in the house without bumping into things. I can get all my household chores done, washing up, ironing, etc with them on my face.

So far the only thing that bothers me is the feeling that I am in an exclusive club. Doing a google search to find out how to get 3d on these means you will be trawling around a lot of unrelated stuff because almost no one has these in real terms. Vuzix do sell 3d movies for them but they are probably the worst 3d movies in the world. However, I know it is possible to get decent 3d movies on these, I just have to keep searching the interwebs and experimenting and I will work it out.

" A very satisfied Vuzix user"

    • Written by from Oxford

I have been an avid user of Vuzix products for over 2 years and have recently upgraded to the Wrap 920 which fully meets my expectations. With their Military background reflected in the build quality and now with the introduction of the new Wrap lightshield accessory you can experience a fully immersive experience. The box contents support a wide range of device connectivity and even batteries are included. When shown to my friends the expression they use is "it's like being at the cinema". I travel extensively and my Wrap 920 and iTouch are excellent companions

    Joke Product.... Avoid!

    • Written by from Northampton

OMG!.. A waste of shiny plastic!.
From the moment I got the product out of the box & handled it, my 3 weeks of waiting with excitement turned in to a gut wrenching green mushy disapointment! Great marketing photo's on the box & website. Sadly when you read the product information again, you realise it's just verbal diarrhea!
Poor design, poor quality, poor build and the audio is appalling. Nearly £260 and the battery supplied lasted less than an hour!
If anyone meets the person that designed this, please pass my message to them... "shame on you for wasting your life!"
It's a real shame Apple are marketing this product on their website next to other truly great products.

    Now to try 3D

    • Written by from Flackwell Heath

I bought a set of these glasses for use in my student digs and while travelling between uni in Manchester and home in London and I think it's been money well spent. I can now download movies to my iPod nano and watch them on the Vuzix glasses with ease. I use them on the train all the time and I actually prefer being able to see out of the sides, cos I know when people are approaching. I don't care what people think I look like, in fact most of the time they're just curious about what I'm doing.

If you love movies and music videos and do a lot of travelling or sitting around then these are a great purchase. Next step for me is to download a 3D movie and use them to watch it!

    Not that slick

I work in image processing and research and won those in competition.

First of all, when you put them on, you will see a picture hich isnt hard to focus on, amazing....but it still looks like a magnified tiny LCD with all sort of problems. The resolution (640x480) pixels is far from sufficient, the down scaler is based on nearest neighbour so if you dont feed it with exactly 640x480 you will get a very ugly pixelized rescaling effect. On top of this the picture is both quite noisy and not perfectly projected, boundraries bend slightly inwards. Worst of all is the extreme low contrast, shades of blacks will be very gray. I doubt very much that the LCD technology that Vuzix utilizes was ever intended to be used for cinema. Amazingly also the sound compared with even a normal laptop headphone output is VERY noisy (even Vuzix say they have noise reduction), so if you want to use sound, please use it directly from your iPhone/laptop.

They are definately not worth USD 300. The only use I can find for them is when lying down it can be very comfortable, for all other cases I recommend a iPod touch or laptop.

    Don't buy these

    • Written by from Westbrook

I purchased these as I thought it would be like wearing glasses and they are not, they stand out from your face and you look stupid. The quality of this product is very poor. Do not buy at this price, if they were £50 then o.k. but they are not... The screen image wold be ok if light did not bleed in from the sides, as they stand so far from your face. The battery life last's just about long enough to watch one film and nothing more... Very disappointing product.

It is up to your taste

I bought these for my brother and i also tried them out. They are.. alternative. I mean the screen could always be a bit bigger etc. - but they are pretty small so it's hard to have full concentration on the screen with out being distracted by suroundings... You cannot walk around with them but they are amazing on plane trips, long car trips (when you're NOT driving) and I don't know train trips or just waiting by yourself for something? If you have ever tried Beats by Dr. Dre they give you the effect that you only listen to the music and do nothing else. It's the same with these - you just concentrate on one thing and they arn't made for multi-tasking situations

    Extremely Poor Quality

    • Written by from London

All i can say is that if these retailed for £59.95 then they would be a great piece of kit but they cost not far shy of £300 and believe me thay are RUBBISH! The picture is really really basic 640X480 in 2010 is a joke, how on earth these other reviewers can say such bullish things about these absolutely astounds me, check out some reviews on Amazon and see what people are saying about them. I had them for 1 hour and they were posted back. Apart from the very very very basic picture the whole thing sits very uncomfortably on the bridge of the nose and the viewing experience is spoilt by seeing outside of the screen so you are never truly immersed, the one thing which is good are the earphones and the sound quality is very acceptable but as i say for nearly £300 they are very very dissapointing.

    Excellent

Was slightly reticent to buy as I could not verify the video quality before purchase. however, I need not have worried. The video quality is very very good (and I am well used to HD standard). The audio performance is also very good. The build quality looks to be quite robust and so far (after a few weeks) I have no complaints whatsoever. Having said all of the above though I would point out that they do take a little getting used to in that the glasses are obviously heavier to wear than normal ones and can only be worn in a 'settled position' (i.e. not too much movement required). Also I find that as a 'non spectacles' wearer that my eyes take a few seconds to adjust to the screen. Nevertheless my recommendation is - don't worry about taking the gamble to buy this product it is well worth the money.

    Incredibly good!

I have been waiting for this release for quite some time as when I tried the set before these I was far from convinced. These do the job wonderfully, the size of screen is excellent and the sound is tremendous! These are also fully set up for 3D and I am eager to see if they do as good a job as they do 2D. Teamed up with an iPhone and either the iPlayer or any DVD or music video they offer a superb portable large screen option.

The only criticism if any is in the design, initially I thought the fact that they do not fit your face like a pair of normal glasses was a drawback but on further usage I can quite easily walk around my house have dinner, make tea ect whilst watching whatever I wish to watch.

I rate this product very nearly as highly as my iPhone and that is I can assure you is quite some endorsement. B E A Utifull!

I am not a techy but wanted to try them as I travel alot. They were brilliant for a long train journey that I made at the weekend and they were very easy to get working. Good size picture and I envisage getting alot of use out of them.

    Such a shame!

I was a bit hesitant to review these glasses but i have just returned these as i was so unhappy about the product.

From the website and the box, it looks like you can just put on these glasses and walkaround. You cannot see out of the glassess as they have a thick attchment where the two eye pieces are. Its very "plastic-y" .

The nose bridge is a MAJOR issue, doesnt fit right and i tried them on various people to which the same problem occured. The nose piece kept falling off (not sure if it was faulty or not) but there was something seriously wrong it with.

The quality of the video (once you get the nose piece to fit right) is okay. I knew it was 640x480 so i wasnt expecting amazing HD pictures and the sound is also okay. You have to plug the glasses into a clunky remote control which then plugs into the ipod. Its all very old school plastic technology - and i sincerly dont mean to horrible about this product.

Im just so disappointed as i was waiting for these for ages - for me the technology isnt available yet to the standard i want (im not quite sure what i was after) but these certainly arent wortth teh £250 price tag they are requesting. You might as well just watch video from your ipod.
