    Micro Music Monitor

Designed by BOSE in the land of Japan. These little anodized aluminium housed speakers are all about the size. Incidentally for further cost you can purchase a dual power - battery operable version in Japan (M3). Anyway there is no finer tiny active loudspeaker on the market today. As in there is nothing smaller/same size that can provide the same or better performance. They have managed to squeeze into the design a stereo 20W RMS p/ch switch mode amplifier, feeding a neodymium motored 5cm broadband driver via Bose proprietary active electronic equalization circuitry. Bose equalization has its uses as it is geared to provide “full bodied” sound at low to normal listening levels. Incidentally they can go loud enough to disturb your immediate neighbors. Practical audible in-room response appears to be from 55hz to 16khz, with the dual passive radiators working hard between 60-70hz, hence the steep cut off in low frequency response below this. After a weeks run in and some psychoacoustical adaptation, voices can appear to be particularly clean/clear and they appear to thrive on “live” type recordings, appearing almost 3 dimensional at times, whilst providing a commendably tuneful bass response. OK, these wont replace standmounts like B&W 684’s etc, however after owning a pair of Creative Gigaworks T20’s, their tiny foot print looks much neater on my desktop, whilst sounding refreshingly more refined.

    These speakers are amazing!

Similar to another reviewer I bought these from the Manhattan Apple Store when I was in NYC for a week working.

After suffering with the internal speakers on my MacBook Pro I took the plunge at $399. As soon as they kicked in I was truly amazed by the depth of bass and the overall warmth of the sound.

Whilst in the hotel I was able to start 2 tracks on Logic, plus have a soundsystem which sounded better than the B&O TV I was provided in the room.

On returning home to the UK I checked the tracks I had started on the MusicMonitors in our studio on our HHB Circle 5 monitors and to be fair the sound wasn't too far out. I had expected to spend a whole day re-EQing all the sounds, but I was pleasantly surprised at how close to natural they were.

The bass was slightly higher than natural on the MusicMonitors than is the case and the highs are lacking a little. I think this is because BOSE has had such a job getting these tiny speaker to be so punchy it slightly overshadows the top ends.

Since the purchase I haven't left the country without them and I do travel abroad once a week.

One recommendation I do have is if you get these bad-boys, do go onto BOSE's website and purchase the protective case. The speakers scratch easily and when you pay $399 you do want to look after them.

Take my advice, throw caution to the wind and get them. If you don't you will always know you have bought second best!!!!!!!

    Great Little Speakers

I bought these speakers after agonising over which set to buy, given that there are only two speakers. I am really impressed with the range and depth of sound. They are expensive, but the sound quality is great, they are nice and discreet and look great next to my apple lcd monitor. So in summary sound good, aesthetically pleasing...but I accept they are a little expensive...

Excellent sound from build quality that matches Apple standards (& design!)

These little speakers produce amazing sound for their size, with two caveats... let them run in well, and make sure the source is high quality. They will reveal defects in low quality recordings or audio files of too low resolution. Obviously they don't match high end audiophile monitors, but then nobody should expect them to. But for big sound in a small high quality package I highly recommend them.

    Best Bose

Small - quality build - fantastic sound. That's pretty much it --- apart from the fact that they sound even better with the SRS iwow plugin for itunes. They become richer and the sound is pure class. Very impressive speakers that confirm 'you get what you pay for'. Lets face it how many computer monitor speakers will you buy in your lifetime? these will definitely be handed down when I'm gone!!

I bought a pair of these in New York recently - at $399 a saving on the rather full UK price - and I think they're great. Nice, solid, pleasing design and great sound quality. Small enough to pack and use as speakers with an iPod but good enough as a main sound source in your front room.

The guy in the Manhattan Apple Store tried to steer me away from buying them and recommended something much cheaper but I'm glad I ignored him (god bless the strong pound!). But I guess this sums up the main objection to Bose products - they are pricey.

Bose Computer MusicMonitor - 'Perfect in imperfection' (by Charles)

I bought a set of this Computer MusicMonitor after reading through all the reviews. The reviews are very helpful, especially the one written by JW from Wimbledon.

It’s impressive that the speakers were delivered in the next day. But of course this is not the key point. I’m very surprised by the ‘mature’ and 'full' sound quality from such small compact size speakers. But on the other hand not surprised, I know it’s BOSE’s strength to provide quality sound from small size. I agree that the bass is slightly richer than the highs. But it could only be felt as an imperfection rather than defect in those highly ‘acoustically sensitive’ ears, not any inferior at all for general music enjoyment. I agree you can’t expect it to match those high end, but why should you? I’d summarize this MusicMonitor as ‘perfect in the imperfection’. After receiving them and listening to them, I immediately placed my order for a carrying case (on BOSE website) as I know I’ll be perfectly happy to carry them to use with my MacBook or iPhone away from home/office because of their excellent sound quality in great volume suitable for presentation for up to 100-people room or a small-scale dance ball. By the way, the audio cables are comfortably long enough for use with my 27-inch iMac in office, so won’t be any problem with a MacBook.

I would echo the fact that these speakers are well designed and look great; for the space concious, such as I, they are a god send. However, whilst they sound 'good' they are not 'great'. They cloud with strong vocal and get sluggish with base unless tamed. The sound from these little ones is not crisp and sounds like a speakert if that makes sense(!?) Whilst I am happy with them for my Mac, the price is only worth swallowing for those with limited space.

Nice speaker. Audio input cable too short, something, that should not happen with a speaker of that price class. Disappointing
