Once again another official iPhone product that disappoints

    • Written by from Llanelli

Whoever came up with this "snazzy" little design failed to notice that anyone using a protective case with their iPhone (ie pretty much anyone with any sense) would receive this product only to find that the phone does not fit in the cradle. I am also really disappointed that it did not come with any cable of any kind (line out or Lightning to USB) - for the price you would have thought it would include at least one of these. I will be returning this product and looking for an alternative.

    What were Apple thinking

    • Written by from Doncaster

The dock is a tight fit, even with the naked iPhone. Whilst that may be good, it's not good because the iPhone needs to come out of the dock to use. It's a useless product because it is impractical. Two hands to get it off the dock and forget a case - no will do. Nobody I know doesn't have a bumper or screen protector or case. Worthless product.

Works, but will not fit ANY case

    • Written by from Barton Le Clay

Usual great Apple build quality, but one major flaw is that it fits the Iphone 5 so perfectly you cannot have any protective case on your phone.

Based on this, it is completely useless for me. If i could have given it half a star I would.

    Has a slight design flaw...

    • Written by from DRIFFIELD

Usual apple build quality - all good; BUT, it has one issue: you cannot dock the 5s if it has ANY kind of case on, (I currently have an Incipio 'Feather' snap-on, which is pretty thin by any means and need to constantly remove the case to dock it. Simply a pain and very un-Apple like; this could've been remedied with the slightest increase of space behind the pin connector, a step down from the quality of the old universal dock in my opinion.

So I sent mine back and will sadly be looking for a 3rd party one.

    Same as it ever was...

    • Written by from Bicester

This dock does what all previous docks have done; charge your iProduct whilst allowing connection via a line-out cable. Why so many people are moaning about things like protective cases not fitting (take it off!) or fingerprint i.d. being fiddly (turn it off!) is beyond me. Where are these people using their docks? It's portable, in that it's small and connects via USB, but who really uses it on the go? The sound quality when connected to a decent amp is equal to, or superior to a USB or 3.5mm jack connection. Avoid if you have a case, or use headphones

    • Written by from Liverpool

Sits on the desk and charges your phone...That's it!

Will not take any sort of case on the phone, and the headphones are unusable (unless you like listening on full volume through the line out)

Really???..... This has got to be the worst £25 I have ever wasted!.... Get a grip apple, have someone at least test your items before conning Joe public!... Mine's gone straight in the bin!.. I wouldn't even sell it on to someone else - I wouldn't do that to them... So why would YOU??.......

Volume doesn't adjust and with the Official Apple case it doesn't fit

    • Written by from Andover

Bought this item along with the official Apple case and with the case on my 5s it now doesn't fit in the cradle/dock.

I have also tried to listen to music and charge my phone through this dock and have found that you can't adjust the volume from 98%. For some strange reason as soon as you stick the phone in the dock the volume is set it 98% and you can't adjust it. A bit disappointing really for an Apple Product and quite expensive.

Doesn't work even with a thin case on the phone

    • Written by from Putteridgebury

I wouldn't expect Apple to get this so wrong. I have a fairly slim protective case. The tolerance is non existent. The phone fits in with a very tight fit so that there is absolutely no thickness allowance for a case on the phone.

    Incompatible with official case

    • Written by from Prague

My wife bought me iPhone 5s with official case and dock as Christmas presents. She was very sad when we unpacked those items and realized that dock and case are not compatible. Our biggest complain goes to the fact that customer must go through reviews to find out products compatibility and even with both products on the same order, customer is not informed about possible issues.

    Virtually useless

    • Written by from LONDON

Very disappointed with this product. Bought two, returned two.Touch ID can't be used easily whilst docked and you can not dock with any type of case on the phone including the Apple ones. Given that the Apple case is tricky to get off (due to it being an excellent fit) the dock is impractical. Unless you have nothing to protect your phone avoid this like the plague.

    wow guys

    • Written by from St austell

wow guys, complaining that it wont fit the official case, but if they made it too fit the case the cap would be too big, and without the iphone case, the naked iphone would just fall over. Maybe instead of complaining they could bring out another model too fit cases.
The product is amazing quality and fits too apples standards.

    Brilliant product!

    • Written by from london

Reading already written reviews confuses me, it is what it is described to be yet people are still complaining.
This is a nice product for my phone to fit in to on my desk which, i then use with my mac. The line out is also very good as it allows me to play it through speakers that use an AUX cable without my phone falling all over the place. Touch ID can be used with this dock although you may have to put your finger on sideways which, i think is only a minor issue. This dock does not allow a case to be used in conjunction with, but then again why would you need to? It is sturdy and certainly wont be falling out and getting damaged!

The dock is built in much the same way as the old iPhone 4/4s dock. It's compact, functional and looks very nice on the table.

However, I find it very strange and disappointing that it does not fit a 5s with the official apple case. I suppose I can appreciate the reason for this, as the iphone in its case may inhibit the clarity of the 'audio porting' feature of the dock.

Since the audio porting feature is useless to me (I use the line out) and I am not prepared to spend time removing and replacing the case (it's quite difficult to remove), I have returned this item and am in the market for a 3rd party solution that works for me.

Reviews are so useful. Based on all the other comments about this product, i have no intension of buying one. I would have thought purchasing the Apple designed for purpose product would be the way to go. It seems not!

It looks nice, but flawed in use and overpriced.

    • Written by from Rotherham

I bought an iPhone 5s when they first came and bought one of these for it the week after. Very very happy with the 5s, and I bought the dock so I could keep it in my bedroom on my cabinet as a kind of default resting position for it to be, to charge, good position as an alarm etc.

First things first; it works, as it should. It looks nice too, very clean and simple white design.

That's probably as good as it gets. This thing is very overly priced. It is extremely tiny. The box is about 2x2 inches, a cm or two thick. £25. Despite Apple's ridiculous profits they aren't getting kinder, and it costs them some goodwill. I found out after it doesn't come with even a short lightning cable either.

My biggest pet peeve is its functionality though. Whenever you lift it off the dock, you have to hold down the dock with your other hand. As it fits so tight on the connector, it lifts the dock up with it. You essentially have to pull them apart every time. My Mum has tried lifting it off the dock multiple times but if I ever ask her to pass me my phone, she doesn't anymore as she’s scared she'll break it. Over time I've got better at perfecting the art of removing it from the dock, but it's clunky, and it's not well designed or thought through like every last detail of the iPhone has been.

Clumsy and overpriced are the two words that describe it best. It does its job and it looks nice with the iPhone, and I prefer a dock to not having a dock. It just could do with a lot more of the Apple touch and thoughtfulness on its efficacy.
