Poorly made and NOT for iPad 4th gen.

    • Written by from BEXLEYHEATH

I have a 4th generation iPad, and the case always felt really loose. Now, after a year, the case has completely split open on the right and bottom (happened gradually over the last 3 months), making it unusable. Thanks a lot Apple!!!

    Not Very Good!

    • Written by from Wigan

This case fits the iPad good but it is loose round the left and right edges but it does it job like Apple says it protect the front and back of the iPad aswell as cleans the screen with the microfiber cloth on the inside screen cleaner. It also protects the back of ten iPad aswell as the volume buttons and the sleep/wake button. Not worth the £39.00 apple charge though

    Great at first......

Was pleased with this case when purchased 15 months ago. Although would mention that the fit was not always perfect. However it is now showing signs of wear. The case is coming apart on one side and the edge of the cover is now white all the way around. Looks terrible. At this price I would expect it to have lasted somewhat longer notwithstanding that it is in use for quite a few hours everyday!

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from Grantham

We bought this case for our ipad and were initially very impressed. We wanted a decent level of protection as we were moving to Australia and wanted to take our ipad on the plane etc without worrying. Our case has completely fallen apart and is now absolutely useless. For the amount we paid I expected it to last longer. We took it to our local Australian Apple shop who said they have seen this before but couldn't help us as the case was bought in the UK, pretty disappointed. Wouldn't recommend unless you are looking for something short term.

Original iPad case was bad. No change.

    • Written by from Swindon

The original ipad case wouldn't allow you to use a dock because of protruding seams. This new case is just as bad - no worse. Sharp edges, loose fitting and the plastic welding around the connector hole has started separating. So it is only a matter if time before it falls apart completely. Shame apple corp doesn't spend as much time designing accessories as they do on slick UI. Won't buy an Apple case again. Very poor.

    Not a quality product!

    • Written by from chorleywood

If you decide to spend a few hundred pounds on an ipad retina then you would think a genuine Apple case would protect it? Wrong!!
This case is just awful. It doesn't fit snuggly around the device, It bows out around both sides so essentially the ipad is only held by the top and bottom. The edges of the case are quite sharp so if used for a period of time then it becomes uncomfortable.
I would advise against anyone purchasing this product. Very disappointed.

    Terrible - waste of money

I'm the most careful user of anything!

However, this so-called 'Smart' case if far from adequate. At £40, I expect more than 6 months usage from it. The folding design doesn't give enough of a base for the iPad to stand-up on, meaning it's top-heavy and falls over.

The fabric lining has come away from the actual inside bits, so it looks extremely tatty, and offers no screen protection any more. The poly edges have also discoloured and dog-eared. It also shows up so many stains - it's disgusting! I can't imagine what it must look like if it was an unclean person using it!

The case has sagged away from the hinge meaning the magnets no longer line up properly, rendering the automatic on/off function useless. I found that out the hard way when I shut the cover, came back hours later to find the battery had gone dead as it had been on all that time!

The cover leaves streaks of grease on the iPad screen which looks horrid. It also causes more scratch damage than it stops... They way the cover folds back on itself to stand up, means the *inside* of it is standing on the surface. Therefore any grit, dirt, crumbs etc. that are on the surface will stick to the cover, and in turn scratch against the screen on closing. You can tell when this has happened, as the scratches are perfectly straight, and parallel to the edges etc.

The cover doesn't actually provide much protection. A slight tap on the corner of the device caused the screen to crack - something that the cover should really have protected it from.

Then there's the damage it does to the back. Not only a build-up of dirt, but actually rubbing off the silver-coloured anodized back of the iPad. Mine has horrible superficial wears all along the edge, as well as two severely deep gouges that are now almost a black colour.

All in all, I suggest strongly avoiding this case. Go for a cheaper alternative, even if it means replacing it a dozen times! Still be cheaper than this.

    such a disappointing design

    • Written by from Nottingham

It's an overpriced product with lot flaws. The edge of the under cover is quite sharp which makes hands very uncomfortable to hold it. The top cover is so difficult to lift, you need to use your nail to open it. £39 is not worth it.

    Hasn't lasted.

    • Written by from Gunnislake

When the Smart Case arrived, I was keen to replace the case I'd originally bought to protect my new iPad3. I purchased it from an Apple reseller (we didn't have an Apple store nearby at the time), and to be honest I did so primarily because I felt a bit guilty that they opened a box off the shelf for me to take a look. Whilst I liked it, I felt £39 was a bit steep, but it's done it did its job and has kept my pride & joy safe. For a while at least...

Having had the case around 9 months, the seam joining top and bottom started to separate down near the 30-pin connector. This fairly quickly spread along the bottom edge, and then eventually around one side, meaning the iPad could quite easily slide down out of the bottom of the case when being held in portrait mode, or even pop out of the case depending on how it was picked-up/put down. Although I've repaired it a couple of times, I will have to replace it very soon.

This hasn't been a one-off either. I bought my daughter an iPad last Christmas, along with a Smart Case, and it too started to split not too long after mine, in April. This time the degradation was much quicker, and she started (and is still) using my original third party case from mid-June.

Make it cheaper - say £20 - and I'd happily buy another, but at £39, I expect far better quality. Sorry!

Great product, although I wish there was more choice with colours but Apple seem to have corrected that with newer products going forwards! Never any fitting issues or looseness, perfect snug fit.

    don't come unstuck

    • Written by from Canvey Island

I bought this case originally when I purchased my ipad 3. After having it for 9 months the bottom part of the case began to come unstuck so I contacted apple to advise them where they quickly and promptly sent a replacement.

After having the replacement just 6 months, this one has also began to come unstuck between the frame and lower part of the case.

    Very disappointed .....

    Just alright.

I bought the case as opposed to the cover because I didn't want to scratch the back of my retina iPad. Before the apple case I had a cheap £2 (fake black leather). To be honest there isn't much difference between it and the case.

The one thing I do like about the case it that it's light. When travelling, the previous case was heavy. I like that this completely encases my iPad and is still slimline like an iPad should be.
It feels safe, which a £400+ device should.

Another thing I liked was you can get it engraved. Engrave your case and not your iPad. It's not so permanent.

The one thing I don't like is the "stand". Very unstable upright and could be maybe 5-10 degrees higher when in the flatter position. Apple could give it some attention.

    The title summarises.

    Brilliant Buy

I am really pleased with this iPad case.
The last third-party case I brought fell apart within one month of purchase. This, however has shown no signs if wear. Not only dose it cover the front and back but my one (dark grey) looks really stylish. The magnets work really well. When in the upright position it doesn't fall back or wobble.
    Good job Apple.

    Not for the ipad 2

    • Written by from Poulton

I had high hopes for this case, especially given it costs more than some mp3 players.

It seems that no one, not even apple can get the slimline smart case right. The fit on my ipad 2 was appalling. So much so that it didnt even hold it in the case. A small knock and it popped out. Luckily onto a duvet but could have been the end of my ipad if out and about.

The case itself feels nice but no use if it doesn't fit. Maybe it fits the later ones better but i've bought a £5 case from the far east instead. Fits better, offers just as much protection and although it doesnt feel as good quality its automatically better for the fact it will hold my ipad in place.

In summary an overpriced product and absolute waste of money. Took it back the same day.

    Not very good fit

    • Written by from Normanton

I just purchased one of these case for my ipad, but ended up taking it back. It doesn't fit very well at all. The case actually comes off on the long edges when in use. Unfortunately you cannot get around this as the front cover pulls it almost off when you put it behind to use the ipad. Not the quality I have come to expect from apple.
Definitely stick with the normal Apple ipad cover. It's a lot better made and fits perfectly.

I bought a cheap cover on eBay and thought I had saved loads of money. It broke in about 4 days. Bought the Apple one with some Birthday Apple Store vouchers and happiness ensued. Yes Apple products are ALL EXPENSIVE buy they are pretty well always well designed and the best option.

    Great product but-

    • Written by from Saffron Walden

I love all apple products and I love my pink smart case for my iPad 2 however, when I try to insert the camera connection kit that holds the USB, it does not fit. The case somehow does not let the connector through and I have to take the case off all together. The case also gets quite dirty and brown in some areas quite quickly. Overall love this product to pieces and keeps my iPad safe from any scratches and marks!

    Excellent cover but poor stand

    • Written by from Ewloe

Does exactly what it says but is very 'wobbly' when using the stand; I take it a lot on planes and don't trust the stand not to fall over with the slightest bit of turbulence which could lead to the screen smashing. Shame really as it is a very good cover with a funky colour (I chose the red one; looks really good).

    Not dark but mid grey

    • Written by from I bridge

I am disappointed with the dark grey colour. It is much lighter than I anticipated. I had hoped it would be much darker almost grey/black. I would say it is mid grey.
The feel is very good. Not all finger prints are removed from the screen and because it is new there is some fluff left on the screen from the cover each time it is opened.
I am worried that because there is no thumb hole to open the case, in time the cover will be damaged where it is opened.
I like the free inscription which was offered. I had my initials and month/year of purchase added.
I have no hesitation in recommending this cover.
