as the title says, i am disgusted with this case, it's branded as an apple product, but it seems there has been no research and development carried out at all. the flaws in this case are almost as bad as the reception issues on the phone itself.

    after two months of use

1 it has caused some very bad scratches around the steel band

    2 it's fallen apart already

3 you can't use the dock lead that comes with the phone whilst its fitted (so why put a hole there for it)

i have been a huge apple fan for several years now. but i am VERY disappointed in this product, i had to rate a one star as i wasn't allowed to mark it any lower!!!!!

    Give it a miss

I got this cover a part of the free bumper programme when I got the phone due to the signal loss.
It's a nice looking, well made cover that stops the front and back of the phone being scuffed when put down onto a flat surface because of the rubber edges.
I've had it on for a couple of months now and it's starting to scuff the metal band (phone aerials) on the phone.
It would stop the phone from smashing if dropped from a small height but for something that is supposed to be protecting your phone from scratches to actually cause scratches isn't really good and especially when they are charging £25 for it.
I can't moan too much because mine was free but I'm not too happy about the scuffs that come from using it.
Spend your money on another cover speck covers seem to be in the same sort of price range but better quality.

Well I thought " the least ugly design destroy" - must be good - and it was - until I got it off and realized it had destroyed and scratched my (NEW!) iphone 4 instead of protecting it!!!!- use the iphone 4 as it is - and use the money for an insurance instead!

'durable' is not a word I would use

    • Written by from Peterborough

I was pleased with the case at first but within around 3 weeks the rubber became very loose and flimsy and by around 6 weeks had broken or torn in a few places. My case now only has half the original rubber and so not only looks tacky but now plays no practical role in preventing it from damage or making it comfortable to handle. Definitely not worth £25

Even if treated very carefully, this product will split and break within a year.

    Doesn't last

    • Written by from Brightob

I first got one of these free with my iPhone 4 about 18 months ago since then I've been through 6 of them. They start off well fitting the phone snugly but what always happens is that after a couple of months the rubber stretches and comes away from the plastic and eventually splits.

To their credit Apple have swapped it out in store every time with no problems but I'd be annoyed if I'd dropped £25 on it.

    Everything I needed

    • Written by from Petersfield

I dont normally leave reviews. But as there are so many bad reviews I thought I would. I think this is a great case. I have had it for about a month now. I read reviews on here but as I was fed up with rubbish cases from eBay I spent the money on one of these. Was really pleased as soon as I put it on. Was tight to get on and it clipped in around the silver metal bit round the edge leaving no gaps. Is a really good fit. Now I read that it a loose fit? Mine is still really tight. My friend said his went loose when he took it off. Why would you want to take it off though? I don't get great signal then. So with regards to scratching I'm not sure if it has but don't see how it would as the underside of the buttons are covered in cloth. The buttons don't rattle either.

Maybe the case has been updated. I don't know but after a month I am still really happy with mine and would recommend them to anyone.

Not bad, new version is an improvement

I've always used the bumper since receiving it as part of the free case programme. It's stylish, protects the front and back from scratches and I find the iPhone much easier to grip with the bumper on. I was a bit annoyed to find most earphones don't fit in the small hole in the bumper, nor does the old bulkier USB leads when charging. The bumper has also caused a fair few scuffs all around the metal casing of the iPhone, though it's not a big issue as I can't imagine using it without the bumper on.

The bumper does get looser over time and eventually a few weeks ago, started to split at the bottom. I took it to the Apple Store and was given a free replacement with no quibbles - great customer service from Apple.

The replacement bumper is much better than the original. The earphone and bottom connector holes are now bigger, meaning it can accomodate all earphones and the old charger lead now fits.

If you do not want scratches on your phone do not buy this product. It looks nice but when you remove the case from the iphone after some time, there will be marks and scuffs left on the stainless steel band around the phone as the inside of the case is rough. Got the bumper from the free case program. Advice is to look for alternative cases.

functions great but only lasts a few months of normal use

    • Written by from Leeds

Primarily this is a great product... it does improve signal strength, it does protect iphone from minor bumps and drops all in a minimal form... with afew minor negative points... it should deserve 4 out of 5 stars...

BUT... the real problem here is the durability... mine has only survive 3 months of normal use (since I was given it for free from apple to sort antena issues)... But now it looks really shabby: the rubber outer is spilting and pealing, the shiney plastic is scuffed, scratched and dull...

Come on Apple... you successfully sorted a few months of antenna issues with these bumper cases... But what about the rest of my 24 month iphone contract?... what's the plan 6 more bumper cases at my own expense?... Surely not...

    Cheap quality, high price!

    • Written by from Norwich

I had the bumper for only a couple of months and already the 'durable' rubber has ripped and split, meaning the case is now un-usable.

And to think I though the £26 price tag for what is merely a thin strip of plastic and rubber would mean it would be of high quality and durable...

    Poor manufacturing

    • Written by from EDINBURGH

Well after using this for 5 months, the rubber is starting to pull away from the plastic.
I look after my iphone 4 and take care when handling it. I've tried speaking to Apple about it, but no joy so far. For £26, I expect it to last a reasonable amount of time (and not less than half a year!). Apart from that, it is fine. The iPhone 4 is a sleek mobile phone, so would not want anything more bulky than the bumper, but if it only has a limited working life, it won't be for me.

Fits well, feels nice. Does what it says on the box. But £26?? Honestly?? For a bit of rubber with a couple of buttons on??

Do you want your iPhone 4 scratched, chipped & tarnished??

    • Written by from Tonbridge

    ... then buy this bumper.

I had one since launch and although it is very good at protecting the front and back surfaces (I still used screen protectors) it TOTALLY ruined my phone with scratches and chips to the stainless (yeah right) steel band.

I took the phone back last week and got a replacement.

i will NOT be using the bumper again on the new phone!

Look elsewhere for your iPhone 4 protection people!

    Not worth buying

    • Written by from Derby

I got the case free from apple but I am disappointed the quality. It looks and feels nice and it does offer quite a lot of protection. However, after a short period of time the plastic has snapped by the dock input rendering it useless. It has also allowed dirt to get inside the case and mark the stainless steel. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a case after all.

    Poor design

    • Written by from Watford

I cannot fit a standard head phone jack through the relevant hole in the bumper.

I also cannot fit a standard 3rd party charger cable through the relevant hole in the bumper.

I therefore have to remove the bumper everytime I want to listen to music or charge at work. This has caused accelerated wear and tear and I have got through 2 bumpers in under 2 years. The design is seriously flawed.

Ridiculously expensive and this is something that I need to have in order to avoid the signal attenuation problem inherent in the iphone 4 design.

    Falling apart

    • Written by from Dalston

    Over priced and poorly made.

If you are putting your phone in your pocket or bag the rubber rim will rub against it and break off surprisingly quickly.

It's obvious that not a lot of stress testing has been done.

The rim on mine has fallen off the bottom edges of the back and front and shows signs of coming away at the top and sides.

It's okay as a temporary fix but I won't be buying another.

£26 is really over priced for something that barely makes it to the six month mark without falling apart.
