    Superb

    • Written by from Worcester Park

Although rather pricey this is an amazing bit of kit! whilst replacing my allegedly mac compatible ex-pc keyboard mouse combo which was starting to go faulty (again!) This has all the function of a touchpad with the benefit of being a conventional mouse. I wish I had bought this with my mac to start with. It is so easy to set up and after years of being purely on a trackpad a joy to use.

    very good for a mouse

    • Written by from Essex

I've just got this mouse with my new Mac Pro and to my surprise it's not to shabby.
The usual type up set up for a Mac. It was so quick and easy to set up you didn't even know you were doing it until it was done all of less than a min.
    Great job Apple.
I'm now waiting for a new magic track pad and the charger for my new mouse.
    I'm such an apple fan.

Poor battery life and constant connection problems

    • Written by from Penarth

The battery life is just appalling. Alkaline batteries lasted about 1 month. Rechargeable ones less than 1 week. I switch the mouse off overnight, but this leads to all sorts of connection problems, so I always have an old cable mouse plugged in for standby. Not a very usable product, even though I like the touch-scroll functionality.

I absolutely lov it.It came with My new iMac last year.It was very erratic on boot camp Windows 7. But brilliant for anything else.Apple must have done something in Snowleopard updates as its now better on Windows than it did

    Great Mouse

    • Written by from Brønshøj

    This is a fantastic mouse.
    But..
This is a mouse for surfing on the Internet and checking mail and things like that.
If you are gaming or having many applications running, i would prefer the Touch Pad or a Gaming mouse.
I think, if you are a normal person, who checks Facebook, Twitter, mail and all those things maybe doing some Photoshop or other media things then its a fantastic mouse.
    4/5 Stars from me

    Good but not perfect

    • Written by from LONDON

    Pros:
All round better than the previous wireless mouse.
Doesn't weigh much more than wired mouse.
Works reasonably well on white laminate desktops - previous mice didn't.
No tracking ball to become clogged with dirt.
Supports gestures e.g. flick up/down to quickly scroll.
Obviously no wires to get in the way!
    Low profile.
    Looks good.

    Cons:
Very limited configuration preferences - power users might need third party configuration apps to restore three button type features and add extra adjustments.
Can become momentarily jumpy after a lot of rapid mouse movement.
Doesn't play well with some apps - e.g Photoshop CS4 zoom goes berserk.
Ergonomically confusing - easy to hold the wrong way round.
Sharp edges make it less comfortable than wired mouse.
Doesn't seem to like mouse mats and similar surfaces.

In general probably ok for the average user who doesn't require excessive amounts of precise mouse movement but it can have a slightly 'rubbery' inconsistent feeling of unresponsiveness and inaccuracy when compared to a 'fresh' wired mouse whilst the touch surface can sometimes be way to sensitive. Best to buy along with Apple's batteries and recharger.

Responsive, accurate, nice feel and good battery life with the right cells

    • Written by from Stockport

I really like the Magic Mouse - it’s perfectly responsive, tracks very accurately, feels nice in the hand and battery life can be very, very good. The surface gestures are useful and I don’t miss the side buttons, although it could be a little bigger.

Use lithium AA cells which last a long time in this mouse. I’m seeing weeks of heavy use and still showing 100%.

You can use rechargeable batteries but the level %age will not give an accurate reading. It starts at about 60% when fully charged then falls off to about 40% before expiring. This is not a fault in the Magic Mouse or batteries, it’s just the voltage characteristics of rechargeables which start at 1.2v, hold voltage then fade quickly - this makes the level difficult to measure. Non-rechargeables on the other hand start at 1.5v and fade slowly down to about 1v so battery level can be measured more accurately. Apple should explain this more clearly so people don’t think there’s a problem where there is actually no problem.

Use lithium cells and you might actually forget this is a battery powered mouse...

    Brilliant

    • Written by from ORLANDO

A brilliant mouse in general. The multi-touch functionality helps a lot when even doing simple tasks like browsing the internet. It's what you'd expect from a mouse of this price, tracking is very accurate, it's comfortable to use (I don't have particularly large hands), and it's just a general pleasure to use.

But the thing that is stopping me giving this 5 stars is the battery life. Although it could be much worse, I find myself having to replace the batteries every 3 or 4 weeks (using Duracell Plus batteries). So in addition to being a bit of a pricey investment, I'll also be spending a fair bit more each year on batteries for this - which is pretty unnecessary.

All in all it is a great mouse, but I would like to see some battery efficiency improvements.

    What compatability issues?

    • Written by

I was very lucky to receive a magic mouse for Christmas last year, and since that day I have never had a single issue with it. Another review on here gave this mouse a 1* rating on the premise that it did not work with the Mac Pro. All I can say is that this is quite simply untrue; I have a Mac Book Pro and an old G4, both of which work a treat with the magic mouse - the G4 running tiger (although you cannot use the finger sweep functions as there aren't the correct Drivers for Tiger, but hey its 2 OS's out of date).

The only negative is that I now have to buy my dad one!

    Stunning!

I was a bit put off by some reviews so, instead of buying online, I waited to check out a Magic Mouse at the Apple Store. I was hooked from first touch and, although it took a day or two to get used to the flatter design, it now seems strange if I have to use the Mighty Mouse on hubby's computer. My advice - buy one now!

    Beautiful to touch

    • Written by from LOUGHBOROUGH

Took awhile to get used to as it is a little flat, but once you give it a chance and get used to it the way the touch sensitive top works is just divine.

I've never liked the mac mouses and i've always used a 3rd party 2 button laser mouse, but i love this.

    Apple, you got this right.

    Close but no cigar

    • Written by from London

A very good mouse, a pleasure to use, extremely accurate, great multi touch gestures. It doesn't sit in the hand quite as comfy as the mighty mouse, I find the old mighty mouse lighter to use, you can also launch dashboard and expose from the old mouse, this does not work with the new mouse. Maybe a firmware update will solve this.

All in all it does not better the old mouse, some things are better some things are worse. Go to an Apple store to try one for yourself.

    Superb!

I got this today and was a bit wary as some people were not too happy with it...

Well, it works for me and is the best mouse I have ever owned!

The swipe gestures make navigating the web quick and easy and the sensitivity, tracking, feel and look of the mouse is just spot on!

I really hope that more gestures are developed for this but even at its most basic level now, it's a definite thumbs up!

    Simply amazing

    • Written by from Vejrup

The magic mouse is both stunning and has plenty of features, especially with "MagicPrefs", which takes fully advantage of the multi-touch. I have been using it for a month now, and I can't figure out what could have been better. Every rose has it's thorn, but Magic Mouse is perfect! (And yes, you CAN use expose, pinch to zoom, app switcher, spaces, dashboard, terminal and much more with Magic prefs, using swipes with 2, 3 and even 4 fingers, including tabs and other gestures.)

    Impressed!

    • Written by from Bradley Stoke

Personally, I have found this mouse very comfortable, and intuitive to use. Tracking and clicking is very smooth and precise, and gestures work well. My only issue is that I have had to use Better Touch Tool to increase tracking speed (as I've found the standard maximum much too slow), and add 3 finger gestures. I Have recently replaced the original batteries, which lasted around 5 weeks.

    Simply the greatest mouse ever

    • Written by from Sunderland

I bought this mouse to replace my Might Mouse (with is clogged up scroll ball of doom). I got the mouse, instantly installed a 3rd party utility called "MagicPrefs" and I am now enjoying true multi-touch bliss! With MagicPrefs and this mouse I can pinch and zoom images, trigger exposé, trigger quick-look, open the dashboard... I can basically do anything with it!

Excellent product. I couldn't be happier with it. :)

    • Written by from YORK

I was never a big fan of the apple standard (irritating fuzzy ball) mouse, so i jumped at the chance of the magic mouse and how glad i am :)))))- slick and easy to use, looks fantastic, with the added bonus of working a treat with my iMac and Macbook pro. A huge step in the right direction from Apple!

    Magic Mouse Beauty

    • Written by from London

Yes! It looks beautiful but that isn't what is important here. The new "Magic Mouse" is a joy to use. That perfect harmony of functionality, reliability and ergonomics. It glides round my desk like an Ice Hockey Puck and unlike its plastic forefathers this feels like a beautiful glass pebble. Treat yourself to another great piece of industrial design that makes other mice seem like plastic toys and above all - just works!

    Beautiful

    • Written by from Douglas

I bought this mouse a few days ago, ust to start, i don't have a Mac, yet.. but it does work with a windows PC, the multi touch doesn't, but the point and click stuff does, which is still good.

    Con's
    Not Multi Touch with windows

    Pros
Has a HUGE range because of Bluetooth, have a teacher that uses it as a presentation clicker thing.
Excellent Design, Best Design i have seen in a long time, it looks just a beautiful as it does in pictures, maybe even more.
Great Multi touch, i tied it out on a friends Macbook, works seamlessly, the swipe and scroll feature is so responsive, just like a wheel, without the horrible noise.

So as you can see, i don't think any mouse i have used is as good as this, except for gaming mice, but i assure you, none have the wow factor that this does when people see it...

    Well worth the £55
