Great functionality - if it didn't keep disconnecting

    • Written by from London

I love this mouse but they have to fix the battery compartment - every little knock or pick up of the mouse disconnects it and then I have to wait to reconnect again - it makes working with it over longer periods really frustrating!

Not what I was expecting.. But surprisingly awesome.

I've had this mouse a few days now and needless to say it performs wonderfully. As always with Apple it looks great and even 'works on my Levis'.

Having said this I think its design lets it down somewhat. Apart from the lovely float and appropriate weight it felt as if there was something missing, it suddenly hit me, it's a bit too shallow for my liking. Yet I also think this is a conscious design choice they way I'm holding the mouse is much less stressful, instead of completely gripping a conventional mouse its sort of 'floats' between my thumb and ring and little finger. This essentially puts your hand in a naturally relaxed state where again it 'floats' within your hand rather than you naturally gripping onto it.

All in all its a great design, more than adequate feel, and the gesture support is quite simply very useful. Finally not only does it 'work on my Levis' is fits in the skinny pocket too so its great for blocking out cursor movement during a presentation and just clicking my pocket for the next animation/slide.

battery life is major let down

    • Written by from london

Requires replacement batteries all the time, not the most comfortable to use for long periods either.... but has good functionality within the MAC OS... not best for boot camp systems or CAD use as well.

Fantastic mouse. It can be set up as complicated or as simple as you wish. I do not understand the poor reviews on here. My only thought; you must have bought a dud or a copy.
I was a little unsure considering the price but its well worth it. Buy it.

    Great Mouse

    • Written by from Birmingham

This mouse is a difficult mouse to get used to. It took me about 2 days to grasp its full potential as it was so different to what I was used to using. But alas, once I finally mastered it, I have not used another mouse since. Its battery life is fantastic and frankly, it is one of the best mouses I have ever used. As I said. It is a difficult mouse to master but trust me, just be patient. It is well worth it and you won't be disappointed!

    Good buy

    • Written by from Ystradgynlais

Bought one along with an Apple wireless keyboard for use with my Mac Mini. Mouse is sleek and good looking and easy to use. You can customise the functions, I just have right and left click and scroll, but other options are available in settings. Personally I find that things are lot smoother than they were with my generic USB mouse.

    Give it time!

Be patient with getting to know how the mouse works, it will soon become the best mouse you've ever used! Flawless design that lets you do more than enough using simple gestures. Battery life did become a bit of a pain but i soon fixed that by using a magic charger or Apple rechargeable batteries.

Remember its like buying your first Mac again, at first you don't know how anything worked, but it soon became the best decision of your life!

    Perfect mouse for left handers

    • Written by from Ealing

Actually I'm ambidextrous and like to share the use between left and right hand to avoid arm strain. I found this Mouse a little strange at first but quickly got used to it. This Mouse is perfect because I don't have to make any adjustments other than to move the mouse from the left to right hand side. No complaints at all.

Me and my wife we are using magic mouses for a year.
We are using them to work at home, not for gaming.
There is no better mouse to work! Gestures are great addition to basic functionality.
Battery life is ok for us. I know that some people complains on short battery life, but years ago i was using logitech air mouse and in logitech one full charging gives only 4 days of working. So apple's one is not so bad as other people are writing :)

Brilliant, very accurate, very comfortable, very configurable. Last week I replaced my recently-deceased PC with a Mac and got the wireless magic mouse included. I am used to an expensive (UK £100 or thereabouts) Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse on the PC. The mouse in my PC system had separate buttons for forward, back, open browser, zoom +/-, scroll, left click, right click, etc. including a scroll wheel with a left and right nudge function. It took ages to get to grips with all the buttons on the Logitech, but I did eventually love it, and I thought I couldn't live without it when it died along with my PC. But after a week or so, in my opinion, the Apple mouse feels way more intuitive, way cleverer, and way prettier of course. And does everything the expensive Logitech did, and I think more, but with less visible buttons etc.. And seems more accurate, to me. And I learnt how to use it seamlessly, intuitively, quickly, efficiently, without thinking, within a couple of days. IMHO Anyone who tells you this isn't a great useable device is probably a mac-hater here to diss Apple in favour of some cr*ppy pc. I, on the other hand, will never ever go back.

    This is nonsense.

If you are graphic designer or CAD designer do not buy it.

Gesture control supposed to be a good thing but in the end it is a disaster. I have top MBP late 2013 so it is fast but if I accidentally swipe mouse in InDesign with 16 pages portfolio you can not stop movement. Whole screen just floats in direction of your swipe. All you can do is just wait.

If you I accidentally swipe mouse when setting any numerical parameters in PS it is a complete disaster - numbers goes up or down depends on direction of the swipe. You can not stop the process. Especially if it is something heavy like a blur or noise on a high res pic.

CAD. I tried it with Rhino and was very very very disappointed with result - camera rotating is out of control! Zoom is uncontrollable, it just goes random sometimes.

Windows. If you have two OS on your Mac you can not use this mouse for windows. There is no right click support. It acts ridiculously strange in Windows.

Gesture control is so sensitive that if you slightly move one of your fingers on the mouse screen start to tilt. This feature is killing me. I've turned off gesture control nearly completely so I have just good looking piece of polycarbonate.

Huge disappointment in Apple. They are so crazy about details but this mouse is compete mess. In this case form does not follow function but it prevent product to function properly. I can not return this thing since 14 days has passed. All I can do now is to train myself to not pay attention to constantly tilting display...

    A disappointment

    • Written by from GUILDFORD

Initially the mouse worked fine together with the charger. Of late it has increasingly lost contact and it is now impossible to use. Fortunately I have a trackpad but my preference is for a mouse that works! For the cost involved the situation is very disappointing to say the least and I am reluctant to purchase a replacement, and presumably another charger.
Not what I expect from Apple.

from a lifelong pc user to starting with a mac, this mouse is brilliant

    • Written by from Croydon

I've only been using this mouse for a few days and it is brilliant. It's fast, responsive, has useful features and feels great. I love the ease with which I can scroll, zoom etc. I've been a lifelong windows user and only just got a macbook pro- and it's great. I've used a lot of mice with windows (logitech, microsoft, kensington... windows 8 mice, scrolling mice, rollerballs, ... And this mac mouse is a lot better. It is different to a windows mouse, I'm using it almost more like a mix between a trackpad (being able to use gestures on the back) and a mouse- so the flatness relative to PC mice (which have to fit more into my cupped hand, and don't provide trackpad style usage) is great.

    - hate the touch sensitive scrolling feature
    - soaks up battery in no time
    - cheap feel
    - unresponsive a lot of the time
    - overall design

Would prefer a good old fashioned wired Microsoft mouse.

    Apple Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Glasgow

It amazes me how Apple can design such beautifully engineered products and then design this. Ergonomically it is a failure. I bought it to use for graphic design projects yet within a couple of hours my hand was so uncomfortable I had to revert to the normal Apple Mouse (which is much better). It's almost as if the part of the mouse that's supposed to fill your hand has been cut off. Casual or on the move use only.

    It could be better....

    • Written by from Randers SØ

This mouse is OK. It is well-designed, sleek, smooth, with good functionality, but why on Earth does it connect via Bluetooth?! The most insecure connection ever!
It could be much more preferable, if it connected to the macs internal Wifi connection, it would be perfect! But otherwise a good mouse.

    Battery is bad. Bluetooth disconnects.

    • Written by from Helsinki

Battery should be better! New batteries needed 2 times a month!
And the bluetooth-connection disconnects really easily. For example, if I shake my table by accident and the mouse "jumps" because of that, bluetooth will disconnect. This happens 2-3 times a day.
    Design should be more robust!
