Works well with my 2010 Macbook Pro...

    • Written by from Perth

I originally purchased a 3rd party adapter which would not work at full (native, 1680x1050) resolution: the text on screen looked fuzzy and blocky. And the ability to display anything at all was intermittent, often just a blank screen. I tried all the 'fixes' I could find online but none worked.

However, after purchasing an Apple branded adapter, my external display began to function perfectly straight away.

Hope this helps some of the people out there having problems with 3rd party adapters.

Only 4 stars due to the excessive price.

    Opens possibilities

Though a little pricey I am very content with this product. After reading numerous reviews varying from positive to rather negative I received the cable with anxiety. But after checking with a couple of TVs and a number of projectors I have no complaints. It just works. I now can take my MBP around and use it for a number of new purposes.

    Good product

Personally I feel it's a shame that most people only write reviews to complain about a product. I'm using this adaptor to connect my macbook to an external Dell S2409W monitor through the vga connection. It works well at high resolutions (1920x1080) and sustains a strong video signal. After colour calibration my monitor matched the colour alost identically to that of my macbook's monitor.

Sadly there is one downside, only a minor one but it's worth considering. Don't run your audio cables near the vga cable for the monitor, even with ferrites on both of the cables outputting dark colours on screen will produce a slight hum in your audio signal. There is a simple fix, as you could have guessed... reroute your audio cables to stay around 10cm away from the video cable and you will have no problems.

Overall, good product and any problems are easily avoidable.

    Works well

Been using the adapter for several months to connect both to my Dell monitor and to several projectors. Never had a problem so thumbs up.

Four stars because of price, and it's not very long so you end up with bulky vga plug and cable right by your MacBook which is untidy but not the end of the world!

    Mini DisplayPort to VGA

I got it at an Apple Retail Store, and it's great! It works brilliant connecting my MacBook to my DGM 19" Flat Screen TV, but it's very expensive for a cable, so it only got four stars. Please lower the price apple!!!

    Works great for me

I use it with my MacBook and a data projector, and a 52" Samsung TV. Just lost mine and replacing straight away.

Lost 1 star as a bit pricey.

    Works fine

I have a 13" Unibody MacBook and an old 19" TFT (Samtron 73v).

The adapter works as described out of the box, no problems at all. Only things that could be better is that the lead could be a bit longer, other than that, all OK.

Worked perfectly with my Macbook Unibody and Samsung R8 TV.

    • Written by from Plymouth

I don't usually write reviews but I feel that some people might be getting misinformed by some of the reviews already posted.

This adapter worked perfectly with my Samsung R8 LCD tv. I plugged it in, the TV detected my Macbook and it worked straight away (and looked awesome!).

I can only speak from my experience here with the combination of using a Macbook Unibody and Samsung R8, I don't doubt that this adapter might not work with some Samsung tv's, but given that the R8 is very popular model I thought I'd better mention how well this adapter worked for me.

    Great

I would have preferred MiniDisplay to HDMI, but as it doesn't look like happening for a while, VGA is the next best thing for me (I do not have a DVI slot on my Telly).
I think I will tweak it to hopfully give me the best quality, but on first impressions I am liking what I see! HD looks good and the colours are vibrant,

My only negative is that it doesn't quite fill the screen (Sony Bravia 26"). I have 1 inch or so either side of the screen which is black. Does any one know how to change it? Perhaps a little tweaking will help?!?

    On the whole very impressed!

    Display problems

    • Written by from Oxford

Possible cause of failure to operate projectors or large screen display may be the quality or length of the VGA cable. I have had sync problems with some longer and lower quality leads which disappeared when a high quality cable was substituted. I have had the problem with other adapters so check the cable first.
