Should be in the box but still...

Excellent product, does exactly what you expect, but really should be in the box... didn't get one before taking a dremel to my old dock though ... which works just as well but isn't as Apple-esque as the original design

    Very good

It is a very good product. Bought it with my new iPhone 3G. It fits very well and it is easy to mount / unmount the phone in the stand. The stand is heavy enough so it dont tip over when mount the phone. Could have been nice if it was also available in black, to match both color of the available iPhone colors (black and white).

Useful but should have been included with phone

    Written by SW from BIRMINGHAM

It is simple and practical. If you spend large portions of your day in front of a computer then the dock makes perfect sense. When your iPhone is docked, it is still fully functional and easily viewable at a quick glance (and it will be fully charge when you need it on the go.)
Whilst I personally feel that is should have been included with the iPhone (ala first gen iPhone), I can think of worse thing to spend £19 on. Non essential but highly recommended.

Must Have Accessory - Why Wasn't It In The Box, Apple?

    Written by FN from FRASERBURGH

    Jul 14, 2008

At the weekend, I went into town to TRY and find an iPhone 3G which I wanted so much. After much trailing round the various O2 and Carphone Warehouse shops I eventually found one... Great!

So, I took it home, opened the box and started having a little rummage around and what did I find? Well... everything apart from a dock. I know how useful these docks can be, my sister owns the first generation iPhone and its serves its purpose as a great little stand for using while at the computer (it saves the back getting scratched too!)

I had to get one. So back into town I went, and (luckily) the Carphone Warehouse had them :) It's a sturdy piece of kit which is deceptively heavy (in a good way) and you won't find yourself worrying about if it is a safe place ti keep your phone.

All-in-all, a must have for iPhone owners... But it should have been included in the box!

This is a very useful device which is why it originally came with the phone. Irratatingly the previous one just doesn't fit!! "Cheaper" phone now hidden extra cost.
    Not attractive marketing!

As expected, slimline, works perfectly. Only possible improvement on this would for it to be wireless.
If you own an iPhone 3G,this is an essential purchase :)

    Tight Fit

    Written by AR from IPSWICH

As you would expect a well designed piece of kit which looks great on the desk. Only downside i have found is that you have to take any case you may have on it off. I have the Belkin Formed silicone one which is one of the thinnest but still have to take it off as its so snugly designed.
Not really a issue as the case is easily removed.

    Unreliable dock connection

    Written by JS from BRISTOL

    Jul 28, 2008

I used my iPhone 3G for a couple of days before the dock arrived, and I had no problems at all. Since using the dock, I've had kernel panics, and on at least 2 occasions iTunes has warned me that the iPhone device was removed whilst syncing. It seems the dock doesn't always make a good connection to the iPhone, it doesn't lock into position. It's always bad to remove a mounted device during data transfer, and in effect that is what the dock is doing with it's unreliable connection. I am very concerned about data corruption.

I think the dock could be designed better - to make a locked connection for better reliability, and a release button to avoid problems with the dock lifting up from the desk when trying to remove the iPhone.

On the plus side, I can understand Apple not including the dock with the 3G - it's a fair way to keep the cost of the iPhone so low, many people may not need a dock, especially if they use one of the many cases that are available. I made a choice not to add to the bulk of my iPhone by using a case, and therefore benefit from the convenience of simply placing the iPhone into a dock, rather than hunting for the cable that may have been burried or slipped off the back of the desk.

Sleek, Gorgeous but should have been included with the phone.

    Written by JC from Liverpool

The new iPhone 3G Dock is Lovely.

Just bought mine in the fantastic new Liverpool Apple store!

With the iPhone docked, it has a curved edge around the back so your iPhone is not covered by the dock at front and almost looks like an optical illusion that its standing on top of the dock of its own free will.

SO useful as a bedside dock for alarm clock and general use reasons.

It looks awsome if using the new app 'remote' with iTunes and just standing there, in its dock showing the itunes your controlling. Very posh!

BUT it SHOULD have been included in the box!! It was SUCH a final touch for the original iPhone, Like a glass case for your trophy to go in...

Such a shame, but for £19, essential product to keep the desk and room tidy and it gives your iPhone a proper home. Love it!

No AV out from this dock

    Written by GB from CAMBRIDGE

    Jul 31, 2008

Warning - I bought one of these and a new Apple Composite AV cable to dock and connect my iPhone to an in-car entertainment system for audio and video output. The cable on its own works great but the dock BLOCKS both the video and audio outputs from the 30-pin connector on the back so nothing works.

On the Apple website it does say that video output is not supported from this dock, but mentions nothing about blocking the audio from the 30-pin connector too! And neither the store staff nor the packaging told me any of this anyway.

I have no clue why Apple would not just pass through the 30-pin connection from the phone to the back of the dock, but they don't. Apparently the Universal Dock does allow AV through, but then it does block the microphone and speaker on the bottom of the iPhone so it's useless for speakerphone calls - and it will cost me another £10 for another power adapter I don't need (got one with the phone and one with the AV cable so far).

So that's £50 spent on two accessories which don't work together but are both 'compatible' with iPhone 3G, and fail to do the job a £2.99 cable from Maplin would do if Apple hadn't encyrption-protected the AV output on the iPhone.

Not great, and I speak as a long-term Apple fan.

    Great Dock

    Written by TA from BOREHAMWOOD

    Aug 15, 2008

This dock is perfect for my use. When I am at my desk I just stick the iPhone 3g in and if the computer is switched on (in my case a mac), it will will start charging, launch iTunes and sync straight away. Brilliant!! as I travel a lot and have a separate charger as well. Not worried about the AV out, as - to be honest if I want to listen to music at home I prefer my home theatre receiver and mac mini. Life is great!!! Does not bother me that it was not included with the phone as I got mine for £59, compared to the original iPhone which was £269.

"No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in!" - All very well but there has never been any 'reaching behind the computer to plug it in' before as the iPhone used to come with a dock included!

Anyway, does the job exactly as it should but over the last couple of years apple really has started taking the **** with accessories. The iPod used to come with a charger but that was also removed.

Should come with the iPhone 3G

    Written by AG from HEXHAM

    Aug 21, 2008

Product is great but should have been in the box with the iPhone 3G. I upgraded yesterday from a regular iPhone and was disappointed to find out that my dual dock (headset and iPhone) isn't compatible with the new 3G iPhone - was further suprised to find that the 3G iPhone didn't come with a dock in the box. Very un-apple like!

    Me first iPhone 3G equipment

    Written by LL from Helsinki

    Aug 29, 2008

This was my first iPhone 3G equipment, and I'm very very happy with this. Now it's very easy to charge and listen to music with 3,5mm speakers. I've read a review, where he said that you can't connect USB and 3,5mm connectors behind the dock, but maybe he had 4mm audio out. My USB and 3,5mm are fitting very well. So I REALLY recomend this to you! Thank you Apple for doing this very good phone and good equipment. Psst, next time include the dock with the phone!

No USB cable in the box

    Written by SW from Cirencester

I bought this to use at work, so I could use the charger that came with it at home. Now I need to buy another USB to ipod cable for £15 pounds including postage, so in the end it costs you £35-40 for a dock and cable. Disappointed.

Small but important omission; Apple Bluetooth headset owners please read

    Written by AG from Tetbury

    Sep 11, 2008

So I'll start out by agreeing with the comments below. Annoying that the dock's not in the iPhone retail box. A shame that the dock's retail box hasn't got a cable in it. As a dock though, it does what it says on the box.

My little observation that may be of value to others is that you cannot use this with the Bluetooth Travel Cable (aka the sync cable with a charging point for the Apple Bluetooth headset). In the absence of the dual dock for the 3G phone, I had the bright idea to put the headset cable into the dock on the assumption that both the phone and headset would charge. Oh no. Some bright spark has the dock/cable connected in such away that the moment the cable is connected to the dock power to the headset is cut off.

Summary: the only way to charge a 3G iPhone and Apple Bluetooth headset together is to use the cable alone (or take a dremmel to the dual dock for the original iPhone).

    A bit too compact

    Written by BD from Grimsby

    Sep 24, 2008

Overall, this dock does what it says on the tin. However, its dimensions are such that if you have your iPhone in a case, even just a skin, it won't fit in the dock. I have to remove the skin every time. This defeats the object a little as I wanted to play the iPod whilst sat at my desk but then pick the iPhone out of the dock when I go walkabout, without a load of hassle disconnecting audio plugs, etc. I don't have to do that but I do have to put the skin back on to avoid damage whilst the iPhone is in my pocket, so not quite the convenient gadget I envisaged.

    Apple Iphone Dual Dock

    Written by JH from BRIDGNORTH

    Sep 29, 2008

A little disappointed that having bought 2 dual iphone docks for the original iphone and headset I cannot use them with the new 3G phone, infact unless i use the lead that came with the headset i cannot charge the items together. Why is this Apple? Are we not going to have a dual dock for the new 3G phone?
